JESUS IS LORD!
From St. Raphael’s Music Ministry...
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today is a day for all the children of God to sing
for joy. Christ, our Savior, is born in a humble stable.
It’s a day to look beyond the star-filled night and humble
surroundings of his birth. It’s a day to linger only briefly
on the gentle and quiet setting. There is more here than a
tender picture of happiness, more than a sweet newborn
surrounded by his loving mother and protective father.
Today is a day to lift our eyes to the heavens and
to see and believe in the unseen and the incredible. It’s a
day to see in Jesus the one promised to our fallen parents,
the descendants of Eve who will crush the serpent’s head
(Genesis 3:15). This is the King whose reign will be
without end. This is Jesus, the only begotten Son of God.
O prophets, if you had lived to see this day! All
of history has pointed to this moment. Everything that
follows will forever be reckoned in relation to this birth.
The Messiah has come. The Creator and Father of us all
has declared his purpose and will not be held back.
“The Word became flesh and dwelt among
us” (John 1:14). We have received the greatest of gifts.
How can we ever thank the Lord? By humbling ourselves
before the manger. By welcoming Jesus into our hearts as
Mary did, with a love that submits to God completely.
Rise up, O sons and daughters of the King! Rejoice in your heritage. Celebrate with songs of praise and
thanksgiving. Honor the exalted King who came in humility but will return with glory and power. He is coming
to judge the earth! Make yourselves ready! Open your
hearts to allow him to rule in you. Pray for the gifts of the
Spirit. Act boldly to fulfill the calling he has given to
you. Behold the kingdom of God is up you!
Let us pray: “Jesus, we bow before you in reverence and awe. May the light of this great day shine in our
hearts. We worship you and proclaim your praises to the
whole earth!

St. Raphael-Holy Angels Food Pantry
The Food Pantry staff sincerely thanks all of our parishioners who support our ministry throughout the year.
Due to your generosity, countless numbers of individuals
and families from our local community are served. Because
of the high cost of living in this area, many of our visitors, if
left unaided, must choose between food and housing, food
and medicine, food and heat, etc. Due to the services of our
pantry, however, this burden is a little lighter. As the
Christmas holiday approaches, please remember in your
prayers our neighbors who struggle daily.
Our next “Reach Out Saturday” is Saturday, January 7th, and we will need to re-stock our shelves after the
busy Christmas distribution. All types of non-perishable
food items are always needed, and can be placed in the designated bins that are located at the church entrances (both
church locations). Perishable items can be brought to the
pantry on “Reach Out Saturdays” between 9am and 11am.
Monetary donations are also appreciated and may be
deposited in the marked boxes inside St. Raphael Church.

Dear Brothers and Sisters!
In these days of Advent, the liturgy invites us to contemplate
in a special way the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph, who lived with
a unique intensity the time of waiting and preparation for the
birth of Jesus. Today I want to direct our gaze toward the figure
of St. Joseph. In today's Gospel, St. Luke presents the Virgin
Mary as "betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of
David," (Luke 1:27). Yet, the one who gives the most importance to the adoptive father of Jesus is the Evangelist Matthew,
emphasizing that, thanks to him, the Child was legally introduced into the lineage of David, fulfilling the Scriptures, in
which the Messiah was prophesized as the "son of David."
But the role of Joseph could not be reduced to this legal aspect.
He is the model of a "righteous" man (Matthew 1:19), who in
perfect harmony with his spouse welcomes the Son of God
made man and watches over his human growth. Hence, in these
days that precede Christmas, it is particularly fitting to establish
a kind of spiritual dialogue with St. Joseph so that he helps us
live to the fullest this mystery of faith.
The beloved Pope John Paul II, who was very devoted to St.
Joseph, left us an admirable meditation dedicated to him in the
apostolic exhortation "Redemptoris Custos" (Custodian of the
Redeemer). Among the many aspects that he emphasized, he
dedicates a particular importance to the silence of St. Joseph.
His silence is permeated with the contemplation of the mystery
of God, in an attitude of total availability to the divine will.
In other words, the silence of St. Joseph does not demonstrate
an empty interior, but rather the fullness of faith that he carries
in his heart, and that guides each of his thoughts and actions. A
silence through which Joseph, together with Mary, guard the
Word of God, known through sacred Scripture, comparing it
continually to the events of the life of Jesus; a silence interwoven with constant prayer, a prayer of blessing of the Lord, of
adoration of his holy will and of boundless confidence in his
providence. It is not exaggerated to say that Jesus will learn -on a human level -- precisely from "father" Joseph this intense
interior life, which is the condition of authentic righteousness,
the "interior righteousness," which one day he will teach to his
disciples (cf. Matthew 5:20).
Let's allow ourselves to be "infected" by the silence of St. Joseph! It is so lacking in this world which is often too noisy,
which is not favorable to recollection and listening to the voice
of God. In this time of preparation for Christmas, let us cultivate interior recollection so as to receive and keep Jesus in our
lives.

Is Abortion Merely a Catholic Issue?(Life 1-Number 2)You hear this a lot as a statement-even from many Catholics—
especially those who seek to justify their own pro-choice disposition. This statement is a lie but it has been successfully sold to
millions. Abortion is not a “Catholic Issue”. It is not a
“Christian issue” even. It is not a “religious issue” either. It is
an issue that covers all living creatures and that is what our
founders recognized in declaring that...All men are created
equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life…Life first cries out
in all of nature-the natural law-known to all who have religion
or know God. Man in his right opposes the selfish destruction
of any and all life-even the lower forms of life-when that destruction serves no purpose but to satisfy man’s pleasure. We
feel compassion for wanton killing in nature itself. When we
stand for human life at all of it’s stages, we recognize that it is
precious and it comes from our Creator. Our rights to tamper
with life in any way must never violate Him to whom life belongs. These are of course Catholic and other faiths’ teachings
because true faith recognizes our status before our Creator.
Abortion is no more a “Catholic” issue than “child abuse” is a
Catholic issue. These are both violations of unalienable Rights

Children’s Liturgy Committee-
The St. Raphael-Holy Angels Life Teen in collaboration with
the Diocese of Trenton Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry invites you to witness to the sanctity and dignity of every
human life by joining us on a pilgrimage to the National Basilica and our Nation’s Capital for the annual Vigil March for
Life. We depart by early afternoon, Sunday Jan.22nd 2006 and
return late evening on Monday, Jan.23rd 2006. The cost is
$50.00 pp which includes food money, transportation and lodging. We will be staying at St. Bernard’s Church in Riverdale
Park, Maryland. The Life Teen Staff will provide the necessary
supervision and chaperones for this trip. In addition, we also
invite parents to join us and help chaperone. Space is limited
and deadline for registration is Jan. 9th or until all seats are

A Message from St. Raphael School
The faculty and staff of St. Raphael School would like to wish
our parishioners and their families a Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year. May the Spirit of Christ remain in your
hearts the entire year through.
Our students were busy spreading holiday cheer this season.
The 3rd and 5th grades collected items that were sent to our
troops, the 3rd grade collected hats, scarves and gloves for
those in need, and the Tech Team provided gifts to two families.
Mark the date: Sunday, January 29th 2006 11:30am Mass
will begin the opening of Catholic Schools Week. An openhouse in the school will follow. Please join us to celebrate the
Mass, and stop in and visit our classrooms to see the many
wondrous things our students do.

A CHRISTMAS PRAYER
The three Wise Men invited a young boy to join
them in offering gifts to the newborn King. When
the boy told them sadly that he had no worthy
gift to bring the Child, the Wise Men reminded
him that he had a gift no other could offer: his
gift of music. And so it was with pride that the
little drummer boy played his best for Jesus,
and received a smile from the baby King on that
Holy night so long ago.
Dearest Lord Jesus,
Like the drummer boy,
I, too, have little to give You.
You made yourself poor so we could be rich.
You left heaven so we could return there.
You showed us true love
By coming to live with us,
dying to save us,
and rising to lead us back to your Father.
Fill me with the warmth of your love,

ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY
Extraordinary Ministers
Please note that there will be no meeting in January. We will gather again in Church on Monday,
Feb. 6th 2006 @ 6:40 pm to begin praying the Rosary. Mass will follow as usual after which we will
have a brief meeting. Everyone is invited to remain for food and fun in Bingo and our Wine and
Cheese party. We hope to see all of you there.
The primary purpose of the Society of the Rosary
Altar is to offer praise and honor to the blessed
Virgin Mary. This spiritual organization is open
to all women of the parish and meetings are held
in the Parish Center on the first Monday of each
month after the 7:00 pm Mass. Our members extend prayerful best wishes for a Christmas of Joy
and a New Year of Hope in Mary’s Son.

New! A 7-week Course On Prayer
Are you hungering to meet God in a peaceful silence? Would
you like to learn practical ways to pray? St. Veronica’s Office of
A.C.T.S. will be offering a 7-week course on Prayer using scripture. The course “ Lord Teach Me How To Pray “ will look into
what prayer is, how we can learn to pray in a peaceful silence,
how does God speak to us in prayer and how we can become
more open to hear Him. It will also offer practical suggestions on
how to pray alone or in small groups. Fr. Brendan Williams will
be conducting some of the evening classes. Classes begin on
Thursday January 12th, 2006 @ 10:30am or 7:30pm at the
Spiritual Center located on 670 Hulses Rd. Howell, NJ. A fee
of $15.00 pp will cover materials. Registration deadline is Jan.

Christmas Party/Bingo at the Mercer County Geriatric CenterOur volunteers [ including 3 students] were terrific—helping with
Bingo, refreshments and door prizes. The smiles and friendship offered were particularly treasured. Thanks also to those who donated
gifts, calendars and cards, which were distributed to all residents.
Special thanks to Frank Bresnen for entertaining and leading our
holiday sing-along
2006 Calendars— Please place your unneeded calendars/cards in
the baskets in church. These will be distributed to area nursing
homes and the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. Baskets will be at the
church entrances through Friday, December 30th 2005. Thank

Trenton Council #355 Knights of Columbus
Trenton Council #355 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship will take place at Holy Angels Church Gym., 1733 S.
Broad Street on Sat., January 14, 2006 between 1pm and 3pm.
The free throw is open to boys and girls between the ages of 10
and 14 yrs old. A parent/guardian should accompany each participant for the purpose of completing and signing the entry form.
Proof of age will be required at the time of registration. Each
youngster may compete in only one council competition. For

Widows and Widowers will hold its monthly dance social—Friday,
January 27th @ 7:30 pm at the Knights of Columbus on 1451
Klockner Road, Hamilton, NJ. Refreshments will be served and all
widows and widowers are invited to attend. Dance socials are held

aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking
or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive
an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare.

under the direction of Richard M. Loatman. Tickets are available

Facing the Future Together
On Friday, January 13,2006 @ 7pm RWJ Hamilton Center for
Health & Wellness on Quakerbridge Road in Mercerville will
host a lecture by Susan Piver entitled “The Hard Questions for
Adult Children & Their Aging Parents” . At this lecture, Susan
Piver will help stimulate discussions between parents and children on their fears, needs and feelings on aging and death.
