St. Raphael’s Altar Candle this week…
In Loving Memory of Joseph M. Guadagno Sr.
Requested by Wife & Family
Christian joy expressed in song must mark every day of
the week and ring out strongly on Sunday, the “Lord’s
Day,” with a particularly joyful note. There is a close link
between music and song and between contemplation of
the divine mysteries and prayer.
Address to the professors and students of the Pontifical
Institute of Sacred Music, January 19th 2001.

Pastor’s Notes
JESUS IS LORD!
From St. Raphael’s Music Ministry…
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Please consider being part of this vibrant worship ministry! What a great New Year’s resolution singing and
ringing in choir would be! Children in grades 2 - 5 are
encouraged to sing in Cool Kidz for God Choir on
Wednesday from 5:30pm- 6:45pm. This choir leads worship at the monthly children’s liturgy. Students in
grades 6 - 12 are encouraged to join Heaven’s Echo
which will begin leading worship at the Sunday 5:00pm
Mass in the near future. Adults are encouraged to sing
with the Adult Choir which meets Thursdays from
7:45pm- 9:00pm or ring with a bell choir [ Thursdays
2:30pm - 3:45pm or 5:30pm - 6:45pm. Remember, to
sing or ring is to pray twice.
Once a year Bishop Smith asks each of us to make a financial gift to the Diocese of Trenton which will fund the
ministries that provide: the professional training, educational materials and resources, aid to immigrants, housing, food and clothing to the marginalized, spiritual and
financial assistance and many, many others gifts that
make our parishes vital and alive. This year, the 125th
Anniversary of the Diocese, we can answer the prayer of
Jesus, THAT ALL MAY BE ONE and show our solidarity by making a special effort and saying thank you to Our
Lord for the opportunities to practice our faith freely and
to share our gifts which will continue to make this a great
diocese. Our parish and the Diocese are one. Both need
your sacrificial support.
This weekend, each family is asked to make a financial
commitment to our Annual Appeal by filling out a pledge
card in the Church. I want you to know how grateful I am
to those members of our parish who have an unbroken
history of generosity to the parish and the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. I believe these parishioners have come to
understand what all of us should. Their need to give back
a portion of the gifts that God has given to each of us far
exceeds the needs of any parish, diocese or cause, important as they are. These donors, those who share a portion
of what they have, are the first to benefit from their own
sense of gratitude to God. We know that all that we have
and all that we are, are gifts from God.
On a personal note, these past few months I have served
on the advisory board for the Bishops Annual Appeal. I
believe in this Annual Appeal because the funds raised in
the Appeal are only used for ministries that serve and help
the people of God, many less fortunate. I feel I have a
responsibility to contribute to live out the great commission of Jesus Christ, who said “Go make disciples.” This
year because of the goodness of the Lord, I am able to
pledge $ 550.00 to the Bishops Annual Appeal. I ask all
families of our parish to be as generous as possible to the
Bishops Annual Appeal so THAT ALL MAY BE ONE.
You are in my prayers,
In Jesus and Mary,
Father Jeff Kegley

Food Pantry
Please join us in the fight to end hunger in
our local area by supporting our parish food pantry. Every
donation, no matter how large or small, makes a positive
difference in the lives of those we serve. Always needed
are all types of non–perishable food items such as juice,
cereal, potatoes, rice, vegetables, fruit, canned pasta, fish
and meat, as well as snacks. We also need items such as
laundry and dish detergent, household paper products, and
personal care items including shampoo, toothpaste and
deodorant. These items can be placed in the bins that are
located at the back of both churches. Perishable items are
also welcome, but must be brought directly to the pantry
on “Reach Out Saturdays”,[9-11 AM]. Monetary donations which are used to purchase items that are in short
supply are greatly appreciated and should be deposited in
the designated boxes located on the walls of St. Raphael
Church.
May God bless you for your kindness!
Upcoming “Reach Out Saturdays” are on
Saturday, Feb. 4th & 18th from 9 to 11am.

IN THE WORDS OF HIS HOLINESS
POPE BENEDICT XVI
proudly presents:
Catholic Schools Week
January 29-February 4, 2006
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Last Sunday, in which we celebrated the Baptism of the Lord,
the Ordinary Time of the liturgical year began. The beauty of
this time lies in the fact that it invites us to live our ordinary life
as a way of holiness, that is, of faith and friendship with Jesus,
continually discovered and rediscovered as teacher and lord,
way, truth and life of man.
This is what John's Gospel suggests to us in today's liturgy, on
presenting to us the first meeting between Jesus and of some of
those who became his apostles. They were disciples of John the
Baptist, and he in fact brought them to Jesus when, after the
baptism in the Jordan, he presented him as the "Lamb of
God" (John 1:36).
Two of his disciples then followed the Messiah, who asked
them: "What do you seek?" The two asked him: "Rabbi, where
are you staying?" And Jesus answered: "Come and see," that is,
he invited them to follow him and to spend some time with him.
They were so impressed in the few hours they spent with Jesus,
that immediately one of them, Andrew, went to see his brother
Simon to tell him: "We have found the Messiah." We are before
two particularly significant words: "seek" and "find."
Catholic Schools Week Is a chance to demonstrate just how integral
Character, Compassion, and Values
are to all that we do.
Please join in our celebrations !
Participate in activities, lend a hand, visit the classrooms during our Open House, meet with the teachers and students, take pride in our accomplishments, and –last but hardly least-enjoy every moment!
For a full schedule of events please
see page
[7] seven of this weeks bulletin.
We can extract these two verbs from today's evangelical passage and draw a fundamental guideline for the new year, a time
in which we want to renew our spiritual journey with Jesus,
with the joy of seeking and finding him incessantly. The most
authentic joy, in fact, is in the relationship with him, having
found, followed, known and loved him thanks to a continuous
tension of the mind and heart.
Please pray for the deceased of our parish
and their families Bertha Ann Clendenin
Elizabeth Stonis
Carmella Barth
Theresa Hennessey
To be a disciple of Christ: This is enough for the Christian.
Friendship with the Master assures the soul profound peace and
serenity, even in dark moments and the most difficult trials.
When faith goes through dark nights, when one no longer
"hears" or "sees" God's presence, friendship with Jesus guarantees that, in reality, there is nothing that can separate us from
his love (cf. Romans 8:39).
We welcome...
Joshua Thomas Kasa and
Ashton James Holman
as new members of the Church
reborn in baptism
To seek and find Christ, inexhaustible source of truth and life,
is what the word of God invites us take up again, at the beginning of a new year, this journey of faith that never ends.
"Rabbi, where do you live?" We also ask Christ and he answers: "Come and see."
For the believer, it is an incessant search and new discovery as
Christ is the same yesterday, today and always, but we, the
world, history, are never the same, and he comes to us to give
us his communion and his fullness of life. Let us ask the Virgin
Mary to help us follow Jesus, experiencing every day the joy of
penetrating ever more in his mystery.

Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony...
PRAYER TO END ABORTION
NEW JERSEY RIGHT TO LIFE
Is “It” a Baby? (Life 1-Number 3)-
We celebrate the Incarnation at Christmas
recognizing Jesus’ birth. We celebrate the
Annunciation of His birth each year just 9
months before Christmas on March 25th.
When did He become a baby? Was it on Christmas
Day or the Annunciation? Abortionist advocates
tried for years to convince us that the baby in the
womb was not a baby and they tell pregnant women
that “it” is not a baby. Why lie? They favor the use
of “fetus” as if “it” is not a baby because even after
40 million abortions, they know that a mother and
father abhor killing a baby. The word of God, Jesus,
Because a baby as an egg in Mary’s womb was mysteriously fertilized by the Holy Spirit, Mary’s baby,
Jesus, grew in her womb as all babies do until, at
Christmas He became visible to all. We learn this in
our faith but it is truth of science that the result of the
mother’s egg being fertilized is a new baby. The Jesus we welcome at Christmas was alive for 9 months
inside Mary, just as you and I were in our mothers
before our own incarnations. We also honor the Holy
Innocents at this time of the year remembering those
tiny babies put to death by Herod, who sought to
eliminate Jesus. Our world needs to seek forgiveness
for all the holy innocents put to death since 1973.
For more on the New Jersey Right to Life visit us @
http://njrtl.org/default.asp
Lord God,
I thank you today for the gift of life,
and for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.
I know there is nothing
that destroys more life than abortion,
Yet I rejoice that You have conquered death
by the Resurrection of Your Son.
I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.
Today I commit myself
Never to be silent,
Never to be passive,
Never to be forgetful of the unborn.
I commit myself to be active
in the pro-life movement,
and never to stop defending life
Until all my brothers and sisters are protected,
and our nation once again becomes
A nation with liberty and justice
Not just for some, but for all,
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Spiritual Adoption Program Announcements
FOUR MONTHS :
Your spiritually adopted baby is already well-formed internally and externally. All major developments have taken place. He only needs time to gain
weight and grow strong. Pray that the Lord of Life fills his mother’s heart
with love to provide the time for her baby to grow.
Please pray daily the Prayer of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen:
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much.
I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child
That I have spiritually adopted
who is in danger of abortion. Amen.
On behalf of all the unborn babies that cannot speak for themselves, we
would like to thank all those families who agreed to participate in the spiritual adoption program.
