Music Notes
Pastor’s Notes
JESUS IS LORD
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
With thanksgiving to Almighty God, we
celebrate the 125th Anniversary our great Diocese of
Trenton. Our Catholic faith is founded on the apostles
who believed that Jesus is the Christ. Jesus Christ is our
Lord and Savior. His redemptive mission taught us how
to live now in order to live with God forever in Heaven.
To continue the mission that Jesus Christ entrusted to his
first followers, we in the Church of Trenton, are called to
be one, in the Body of Christ.
As the one Body of Christ, all the parishes in the Diocese
of Trenton will participate in the Bishop’s Annual Appeal
next weekend. Because of the funds raised through the
Bishops Annual Appeal we are able to effectively carry
out the mission of Jesus Christ. Our service to the poor
through the vast number of charitable offices that bring
hope, education, housing, food and clothing serves tens of
thousands each year in our diocese alone. Our catechetical
program provides certified catechists so that the seeds of
faith can be planted, nourished and strengthened in our
youth, young adults and across the life-span. Our catholic
schools nourish that same seed of faith as they strive for
excellence in educating the mind, body, and spirit. This is
all possible because of the constant support of the people
of the Diocese of Trenton.
All the parishioners (even the priests and religious) are
asked to participate in this Annual Appeal in whatever
means possible. This appeal really is not about a Bishop,
a pastor or a priest, it’s about the people of God sharing
their resources so the mission and the Good News of Jesus Christ can be shared throughout the Diocese of Trenton.
God has greatly blessed the Diocese of Trenton over the
past 125 years and continues to bless us as we journey
into the third Christian millennium. During this anniversary year we pray in the words of our Lord Jesus, That All
May Be One. In continuing the mission of Jesus Christ,
the Diocese with God’s blessings and your continuing
financial support can make this intention an even greater
reality in the lives of the faithful of the Diocese of Trenton.
In Jesus and Mary,
Father Jeff Kegley
Pastor

St. Raphael-Holy Angels Food Pantry
Please continue to support our parish
food pantry as the need is always great,
and particularly during the winter
months when meager incomes must stretch even further to pay rising utility bills. Always needed are all
types of non-perishable items such as cereal, pasta,
potatoes, rice, soup, peanut butter, fruit juice, canned
fruit, cookies and snack foods, canned vegetables, and
personal care items such as shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant and soap. Laundry and dish detergent, as well
as paper products are always appreciated. These items
can be deposited in the designated bins that are located at the church entrances. (both church locations).
Perishable items can be brought to the pantry on
“Reach Out Saturdays” between 9am and 11am.
Monetary donations are also much appreciated
and may be placed in the marked boxes inside St.
Raphael Church. They are used to purchase items that
are in short supply
May God bless you for your generosity!
Upcoming “Reach Out Saturdays” are on
Saturday, Jan. 21st & Feb. 4th from 9 to 11am.

IN THE WORDS OF HIS HOLINESS
POPE BENEDICT XVI
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
On this Sunday following the solemnity of the Epiphany, we
celebrate the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which ends the
liturgical time of Christmas. Today we contemplate Jesus who,
at the age of about 30, had John baptize him in the Jordan
River. It was a baptism of penance, which used the symbol of
water to express the purification of heart and life.
John, called the "Baptist," that is, he who baptizes, preached
this baptism to Israel to prepare for the imminent coming of the
Messiah; and he told all that after him another would come,
greater than he, who would not baptize with water but with the
Holy Spirit (cf. Mark 1:7-8). When Jesus was baptized in the
Jordan, the Holy Spirit descended, rested on him with the corporal appearance of a dove, and John the Baptist recognized
that he was the Christ, the "Lamb of God," who came to take
away the sins of the world (cf. John 1:29).
Therefore, the baptism in the Jordan is also an "epiphany," a
manifestation of the messianic identity of the Lord and of his
redeeming work, which will culminate with another "baptism,"
that of his death and resurrection, through which the whole
world will be purified in the fire of divine mercy (cf. Luke
12:49-50).

On this feast, Pope John Paul II usually administered the sacrament of baptism to some children. For the first time, this morning, I also had the joy of baptizing 10 newborns in the Sistine
Chapel. I renew with affection my greeting to these little ones,
to their families, as well as to the godfathers and godmothers.
The baptism of children expresses and realizes the mystery of
the new birth to divine life in Christ: Believing parents take
their children to the baptismal font, representation of the
"womb" of the Church, from whose blessed waters the children
of God are begotten. The gift received by the newborns calls for
its being accepted by them, once they become adults, in a free
and responsible way: This process of maturation will lead them
later to receive the sacrament of confirmation, which in fact
will confirm their baptism and will confer on them the "seal" of
the Holy Spirit.
Dear Brothers and Sisters, may today's solemnity be a propitious opportunity for all Christians to discover the joy and
beauty of their baptism that, lived with faith, is an ever present
reality: It continually renews us in the image of the new man, in
holiness of thoughts and deeds. Baptism, moreover, unites
Christians of all creeds. Insofar as baptized, we are all children
of God in Christ Jesus, our master and Lord. May the virgin
Mary obtain for us the grace to understand ever more the value
of our baptism and to witness to it with a worthy conduct of
life.

PRAYER TO END ABORTION
NEW JERSEY RIGHT TO LIFE
Is “It” a Baby? (Life 1-Number 3)-
We celebrate the Incarnation at Christmas
recognizing Jesus’ birth. We celebrate the
Annunciation of His birth each year just 9
months before Christmas on March 25th.
When did He become a baby? Was it on Christmas
Day or the Annunciation? Abortionist advocates
tried for years to convince us that the baby in the
womb was not a baby and they tell pregnant women
that “it” is not a baby. Why lie? They favor the use
of “fetus” as if “it” is not a baby because even after
40 million abortions, they know that a mother and
father abhor killing a baby. The word of God, Jesus,
Because a baby as an egg in Mary’s womb was mysteriously fertilized by the Holy Spirit, Mary’s baby,
Jesus, grew in her womb as all babies do until, at
Christmas He became visible to all. We learn this in
our faith but it is truth of science that the result of the
mother’s egg being fertilized is a new baby. The Jesus we welcome at Christmas was alive for 9 months
inside Mary, just as you and I were in our mothers
before our own incarnations. We also honor the Holy
Innocents at this time of the year remembering those
tiny babies put to death by Herod, who sought to
eliminate Jesus. Our world needs to seek forgiveness
for all the holy innocents put to death since 1973.
For more on the New Jersey Right to Life visit us @
http://njrtl.org/default.asp
Lord God,
I thank you today for the gift of life,
and for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.
I know there is nothing
that destroys more life than abortion,
Yet I rejoice that You have conquered death
by the Resurrection of Your Son.
I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.
Today I commit myself
Never to be silent,
Never to be passive,
Never to be forgetful of the unborn.
I commit myself to be active
in the pro-life movement,
and never to stop defending life
Until all my brothers and sisters are protected,
and our nation once again becomes
A nation with liberty and justice
Not just for some, bur for all,
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Holy Hours for Unborn Children Set for Jan. 20, 23
Jan. 21st is the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court
decision that has lead to the deaths of millions of unborn children.
On Friday, Jan. 20, St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish will hold a "Holy Hour" vigil of prayer and
silent reflection from 6 to 7 p.m. at St. Raphael Church, followed by Mass.
On Monday, Jan. 23, the National March for Life will take place in
Washington, D.C. For those of us who cannot attend the march, the parish
will hold another Holy Hour from 6 to 7 p.m. at St. Raphael Church, also with Mass to follow.
These will be good opportunities to pray for our unborn spiritual adopted babies.
Unity and prayer are powerful ways to help end abortion, which victimizes
women who have abortions, as well as their babies.
Please take this opportunity to join in prayer to overturn Roe v. Wade and
restore the rights of the unborn.
All are welcome.

Cell Phones for Soldiers
You may continue to deposit your old cell
phones into the boxes provided in the
vestibules of both St. Raphael and Holy
Angels Churches. Accessories and cash donations are also accepted. Cell phones are
recycled for cash and the proceeds are used
to buy prepaid calling cards for our
soldiers serving in the Middle East. Our goal
is to provide every US soldier with a way to
call home for free. For more information, visit
