The shortcut key for addition is F. The shortcut key for subtraction is G. Example 1: 4 + 13 = 17 Shortcut equivalent: A F ZC = Example 2: 99 – 9 = 90 Shortcut equivalent: EE G E = 90 Example 3: 4 + 7 + 22 – 9 = 24 Shortcut equivalent: A F Q F XX G E = 24 Example 4: 121 – 48.5 + 72.3 = 144.8 Shortcut equivalent: ZXZ G AW.S F QX.C = 144.8 Basic Multiplication/Division You can multiply and/or divide a string of number and the Calculator will keep track of the running total. The shortcut key for multiplication is V. The shortcut key for subtraction is B. Example 1: 3 * 11 = 33 Shortcut equivalent: C V ZZ = 33 Example 2: 100 / 4 = 25 Shortcut equivalent: Z ↑↑ B A = 25 Example 3: 8 * 14 / 2 = 56 Shortcut equivalent: W V ZA B X = 56 Example 4: 5.2 / 4.9 * 3.4 = 3.608163265306 Shortcut equivalent: S.X B A.E V C.A = 3.608163265306 © 2011 7 Dragons Inc. This function will only affect the last number entered or calculated. Example 1: 9.5 * 14.3 “+/-“ = 9.5 * (-14.3) = 135.85 Shortcut equivalent: E.S V ZA.C J = 135.85 Example 2: 25 “+/-“ + 98 = (-25) + 98 = 73 Shortcut equivalent: XS J F EW = 73 Percentage The percentage key “%” can be used to help calculate percentages. The shortcut key for this button is R. Addition Example – Total with Tax: If you are buying a book in the Amazon Kindle store for $6.99 and you know that they charge 6.80% sales tax for internet purchases in the state of Utah, you can determine the final charge by entering 6.99 + 6.8 % to find you will be charged $7.47 (ok – they round the 7.46532 up a bit) for your new book. Shortcut equivalent: D.EE F D.W R = 7.46532 Addition Example – Total with Tip: If your dinner tab is $35 and you want to know what your total bill should be including a 15% tip, enter 35 + 15% to determine you should pay $40.25 (and then use Calculator to add on the designated tax). Shortcut equivalent: CS F ZS R = 40.25 Subtraction Example – Discount Price: You found a great sale on a jacket that was originally priced at $119.55 and is discounted at 25%. To find the discounted price, enter 119.55-25% and see that the shirt now sells for $89.66 (rounded down from 89.6625). Shortcut equivalent: ZZE.SS G XS R = 89.6625 Multiplication Example - Straight Percentage: You donate 10% of your paycheck to a favorite charity and want to know how much to contribute if you bring home $1898.75 twice a month. To determine your donation amount, enter 1898.75*10% and find you should contribute $189.875 which you round to $189.88. © 2011 7 Dragons Inc. All Rights Reserved. Page 3 Shortcut equivalent: ZWEW.QS V Z↑ R = Division Example: 200/25% is the same as dividing 200 by (25% of 1) = 200 / 0.25 = 800. Shortcut equivalent: X↑↑ B XS R = 800 Square Root The square root key (√) can be used to determine the square root of the entered number or calculated result. The shortcut key for this button is T. Example 1: To find the square root of 25 (or √25) enter 25 T = 5 Shortcut equivalent: XS T = 5 Example 2: To find the square root of 13.5 * 12 ( or √(13.5*12) ) enter 13.5*12 = T = 12.727922061357855 (it is necessary to enter = after the initial calculation before determining the square root). Shortcut equivalent: ZC.S V ZX = T = 12.727922061357855 Note: Trying to find the square root of a negative number will return the response of “Impossible to calculate” Powers or Exponents The “x^y” button allows you to calculate problems using powers/exponents. “x^y” is the equivalent of x to the power of y. The shortcut key for this button is P. Example 1: To calculate 5^2 (or 5*5) enter 5 x^y 2 = 25 Shortcut equivalent: S P X = 25 Example 2: To calculate 2^3 (or 2*2*2) enter 2 x/y 3 = 8 Shortcut equivalent: X P C = 8 Example 3: To calculate -5^5 (or -5*-5*-5*-5*-5) enter 5 +/- x^y 5 = -3125 Shortcut equivalent: S J P S = -3125 1/X The “1/x” button quickly allows you to divide 1 by a number. The shortcut key for this button is O. Example 1: To find1/4, enter 4 “1/x” = 0.25 © 2011 7 Dragons Inc. All Rights Reserved. Page 4 Shortcut equivalent: A O = 0.25 Example 2: To find -1/3, enter 3 “1/x” “+/-“ = -0.333333333333333 Shortcut equivalent: C O J = -0.333333333333333 Note: Trying to divide 1/0 will return the response of “Can not divide by zero.” SIN The SIN button will produce the calculated Sine in Radians of the entered number. Example: to find the Sine of 75º enter 75 SIN. Result = -0.387781635409 Shortcut equivalent: QS SIN = -0.387781635409 COS The COS button will produce the calculated Cosine in Radians of the entered number. Example: to find the Cosine of 100º enter 100 COS. Result = 0.862318872288 Shortcut equivalent: Z ↑↑ COS = 0.862318872288 TAN The TAN button will produce the calculated Tangent in Radians of the entered number. Example: to find the Tangent of 33º enter 33 TAN. Result = -75.313014800085 Shortcut equivalent: CC TAN = -75.313014800085 Chain Calculations Chain Calculations can be easily done in Calculator. 5^4/3 (5 to the fourth power divided by 3) is the same as taking 5^4 and then dividing the answer by 3. Shortcut equivalent: S P A B C = 208.33333333333334 Some chain calculations will need to use the Memory functions. If you wanted to calculate out 5^(4/3) (5 to the 4/3 power) you would need to calculate out 4/3 and store this answer in memory (4 / 3 M stores this number in memory) and then enter 5^N to arrive at the correct answer (N returns the number stored in memory). Shortcut equivalent: (Step 1) A B C M (you will see the message “Memory now holds 1.333333333333333”) (Step 2) S P N = 8.54987973338348 For more Kindle Apps from 7 Dragons please visit Amazon's 7 Dragons Page. © 2011 7 Dragons Inc.
