Manistique Middle/High School
Annual Education Report (AER)
August 4, 2010
Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which
provides key information on the 2009-2010 educational progress for the Manistique
Middle/High School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information
required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about
student assessment, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you
have any questions about the AER, please contact Mr. Butch Yurk for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web
site http://www.manistique.k12.mi.us or you may review a copy from the
Manistique Middle/High School office.
For 2009-2010, Manistique Middle/High School made Adequate Yearly Progress
(AYP) in English language arts and mathematics. While we are pleased to have
reached this important goal, we are continuously working to improve. We
appreciate the continued support of parents, staff and our community in this effort.
State law requires that we also report additional information:
1. PROCESS FOR ASSIGNING PUPILS TO THE SCHOOL—Not applicable to the
Manistique Middle/High School, as there is only one middle/high school within
the Manistique Area Schools district.
2. THE STATUS OF THE 3-5 YEAR SCHOOL IMMPROVEMENT PLAN—Each fall the
staff analyzes the most current MEAP and MME data of the middle and high
school to identify areas of improvement and review prior goals in each of the
core areas. In both the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 annual report, the report
indicates the goals for improvement in each subject area. In the 2009-2010
school year, four new goals have been set for a 3-5 year plan.
3. A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF EACH SPECIALIZED SCHOOL—Not applicable to
the Manistique Middle/High School, as there is only one middle/high school
within the Manistique Area Schools district.
4. IDENTIFY HOW TO ACCESS A COPY OF THE CORE CURRICULUM, A
DESCRIPTION OF ITS IMPLEMENTATION AND AN EXPLANATION OF THE
VARIANCES FROM THE STATE’S MODEL—TAMMY HEREAU
5. THE AGGREGATE STUDENT ACHEIVEMENT RESULTS FOR ANY LOCAL
COMPENTENCY TESTS OR NATIONALLY NORMED ACHIEVEMENT TESTS—
TAMMY HEREAU
6. IDENTIFY THE NUMBER AND PERCENT OF STUDENTS REPRESENTED BY
PARENTS AT PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES—Parents are considered a
vital link to supporting the education of students at Manistique Middle & High
School. Attendance at parent teacher conferences is promoted and
encouraged. For the 2008-2009 school year, attendance rates for the fall
conferences in November were 67% (380 out of 565) and the spring date
drew an attendance rate of 34% (191 out of 562). For the 2009-2010 school
year, attendance rates for the fall conferences in November were 63% (350
out of 560) and the spring date drew an attendance rate of 41% (230 out of
559).

The Manistique Middle/High School is proud to present this publication to inform the
community of the current state of our school. We are proud of what we have
accomplished and would like to share examples of our achievements. Our students’
educational and social needs are a priority and the decisions we make are based on
that philosophy.
We continually strive to make our students responsible, respectful, tolerant, and
lifelong learners. The need for them to develop strong values, character and
leadership skills are ever increasing.
Excelling in all subject areas at every grade level year after year is the result of an
extraordinary school system made up of exceptional teachers, support staff,
administrators, parents, and community leaders.
I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making the Manistique
Middle/High School a productive and positive place to learn. Together, we have
established a foundation of progress for our district.
Sincerely,
Mr. Butch Yurk
