Carolina Challenge
The following are the players we gathered notes on in the one day camp put on by Dave Telep of Scout.com
at Cary Academy (NC) on March 28, 2010.
2011 Class
Wykevin Bazemore, 6’4 PF/SF
Bertie 2011, is a long and athletic
undersized 4 man that is an excellent defender. His offense is behind his defense. Brother is a stud
at ODU but is much more skilled at
6’6. Comes from a good family.

Keith Bellfield, 6’6 SF Cannon
School 2011, can knock down the
open three as well as convert going to the basket at a high level.

Devince Boykins, 6’4 SF East
Rutherford 2011, is a very athletic
transitioning wing with solid handle
and an ability to finish well at the
rim. MM
John Cannon, 6’11 C Mountain
Heritage 2011, is a true post that
had a solid camp with his excellent
size and touch around the basket.
Cannon also showed he can knock
down the 15 footer and collect
boards in his area. He put in a
reputable effort against Uchebo.

Bishop Daniels, 6’2 SG Word of
God 2011, is known as one of the
two best dunkers in the entire Junior class. However, his jump shot
has made major strides each time I
have watched him since last summer including a Kobe-esque fade
away he has added to his repertoire. Still not a PG, he is a bit undersized for the off guard spot, but
he more than makes up for it with
unbelievable athleticism. Daniels
scored at a high level all camp.
Next step, stop leaking for the
highlight, and buckle down on D.

Jacoby Davis, 6’0 SG West Charlotte 2011, knocked down several
threes in the game I caught and is a
player that was drawing nice reviews
all day.
Chad Frazier, 6’4 SG Metrolina
Christian 2011, is a smooth player
with a nice touch that can hit the
outside shot.
Anthony Gill, 6’8 PF Charlotte Christian 2011, is surprisingly athletic forward with a strong back to the basket game. Vastly underrated. South
Carolina commit.
P.J. Hairston, 6’5 SG Dudley 2011,
no doubt one the most talented
shooters in the state, Hairston continued to give defenders problems
with his outside shooting, athleticism
and brute strength. UNC Commit
Donta Harper, 6’5 SG South Central
2011, also continued his development from my two glimpses of him
during his high school season. During the season, I told his coach with
a solid spring he would likely land at
the high major level. He did not have
a bad start; Harper was one of the
top 2011 performers in camp. Harper
is very long and a good defender.
Added strength will be a huge necessity as he is built like Julius
Hodge. He also needs to be more
productive with the dribbles he uses.
He is a high level shooter from deep
with size for position and can knock
down the pull up J. Harper is also
able to get to the basket and finishes
more often than not. Defensively, he
deflects a lot of passes with his
length. Love his game, will be one to
monitor this spring. HM-/MM+
Demarcus Harrison, 6’5 SG/SF
Christ School 2011, also put out a
solid effort in the game we caught.
He has improved a great
deal since the summer.
Along with being a solid
outside shooter, Harrison
is very long and showed
he could score at the basket using his solid athleticism. He has good size
for the 2 spot and also
has a solid middle game.
He should be a good defender at the next level
with his length and athleticism. MM+
Tony Kimbro, 6’6 SG/SF
Christ School 2011, the
big and strong smooth
shooting wing had an impressive outing in the pair
of games we caught. Kimbro, a southpaw, shoots
the ball at a high level
with his pure stroke and
attacks the rack where he
can score with great consistency. He is athletic but
not super bouncy as of
yet. He finds ways to get
things done in traffic. Kimbro has a great first step
and his stock definitely
rose with his play. HM
Jacob Lawson, 6’7 PF
Oak Ridge Military 2011,
continued to do what he
does best; block shots
and dunk. He is a physical
specimen and an incredible athlete. Next step for
him will be to develop a
skillset in the post. HM/
HMTravion Leonard, 6’9 PF
Kestrel Heights 2011, is
very, very wide. Getting in
shape should be his number 1 priority as he can
only make it up and down

the court a few times before
needing rest. He is a nice
talent and drew smiles to
everyone’s face when he
took one end to end, drew
the foul and layed in the
bucket. LM+
Tony Menton, 6’6 SF/PF
Waddell 2011, is a big wing
with a solid game and good
athleticism. First glimpse
ever, will be interesting to
see him over the summer.

school recruits.
Quincy Miller, 6’8 SF Quality Education Acad. 2011,
had the demeanor of the
best prospect in camp and
more often than not, played
like the best prospect in
camp. The skilled and athletic 6’8 forward shot the ball
well from deep, got to the
basket at will and competed.

Jacquise Moore, 6’1 SG/PG
Concord 2011, had a very
solid outing in the game we
watched where he finished
well in traffic, knocked down
the three ball and was very
unselfish as he would make
the extra pass when needed.

Ike Nwamu, 6’2 SG Westchester Academy 2011, is a
human highlight reel on the
break with tremendous explosion. Nwamu looks for
highlights first, making one
wonder what are the other
things he can do. High major
athlete, need to see him in a
more organized setting to
properly evaluate him.
Marshall Plumlee, 6’11 C
Christ School 2011, minus
the fact he was on the re-
ceiving end of several personally devastating dunks,
Plumlee has made strides in
his game. He actually took
his defender of the bounce
from the wing and converted
or got to the foul line. He
was one of the few bigs to sit
down in the post and demand the ball, a difficult item
to receive in a camp setting.
Defensively, he isn’t afraid to
challenge anybody and
blocked several shots
through his games. His
morning game, which we
missed was reportedly his
best effort. In the game we
caught he did what he had to
do on both offense and defense to make a major impact in a guard dominated
camp. HM
Tyler Poole, 6’6 SG/SF
Hickory 2011, is a fundamental player with a stroke.

Jervon Pressley, 6’7 PF
Waddell 2011, is an athletic
and strong post presence
that had a very solid showing in the camp setting;
blocking shots and finishing
around the cup. HMMarquis Rankin, 6’0 PG
Vance 2011, is a highly
sought after point guard that
made his name off two
games last spring, one at the
Carolina Challenge and the
other at the Hoop Jamboree.
Besides those two outings, I
have questioned his lofty
ranking. However, he had a
nice camp where he exposed his quickness, change
of speed and ability to finish
in traffic as a smaller guard.
He can knock down the 3
ball on occasion and looks
for his shot more than any-
thing. HM/HMTyquan Roberts Ragsdale,
6’5 SG 2011, shot the ball
well in the game I saw. Roberts should be one to monitor over the spring and summer.
Paris Roberts-Campbell,
6’3 SG United Faith 2011,
was a solid role player who
managed to stay under the
radar but will likely develop
into a strong lower D1
player. He knocked down a
pair of 3’s in the game I saw.

Aaron Roundtree, 6’7 SF
Beddingfield 2011, is a very
long and skilled SF with excellent size and ability for the
position. He showed he
could knock down the outside shot to keep defender’s
honest but his mechanics
are what’s holding him back.
Best way to describe Aaron
is that he is a very poor
man’s Quincy Miller. Rountree should be in the 2012
class and may be 2-3 years
younger than Quincy. Gaining strength and solidifying
his outside shot will be his
two big obstacles but he is a
definite talent that can defend(defenders had much
trouble getting passes
around his long and active
arms), run the point in a bind
and find the open man. He
did block a few jump shots
which are impressive feat’s
and he knocked down a few
mid range jumpers and
three. MM/MM+
Jackson Simmons, 6’8 PF
Smoky Mountain 2011, was
one of the most impressive
bigs in camp. Year after year
he has continued to improve.

Simmons is a very skilled PF
with very few weaknesses
and many strengths. He is
not for every high major
school, but plenty of high
level schools should carve
out a spot for this talented
forward. He is an under the
radar athlete as well. 4.0
GPA and a great family behind him just sweetens the
deal. HMWorth Smith, 6’5 SF Charlotte Christian 2011, hit the 3
and is another player from
the basketball powerhouse
to monitor. LM/LM+
Anthony Stitt, 6’1 PG Butler
2011, is a fast, long and
quick PG that showed very
good court vision finding
cutters and open men
throughout the day. His
brother plays for Clemson
and when it’s said and done,
he will also play at that level.
HM/HMBernard Sullivan, 6’7 PF
North Mecklenburg 2011, is
a strong inside out forward
who has started to play his
best ball of late after having
a tumultuous several years.
He has a solid back to the
basket skill set with good
explosion and can do damage to a team with his perimeter abilities. HM
Kevin Thomas, 6’7 SF
Christian Faith Center 2011,
a Ro Russell’s import from
Canada, is a talented and
athletic wing forward that
can create serious matchup
problems at 6’7 with his ability to knock down the 3 and
create going towards the
basket. HM
Mike Thorne, 6’9 Trinity
Christian 2011 PF, is a lower
level big that has pretty good
touch and can rebound
some. Thorne moves pretty
well and has a lot of development left to do. LM/LM+
see a player that was able to
slow him down all day. Williams is good athlete and a
nice wing with size and a
high level scoring capacity.
HM/HM-
Mike Tyson, 6’7 PF Kinston
2011, cleans up a lot of
misses, is a strong post
presence with a developing
game. He has come a long
way in the past two years
watching him and comes
from a terrific high school
program. MM
Chris Wilson, 6’2 PG Terry
Sanford 2011, had a solid
showing against Marquis
Rankin with his great motor
and size for the point spot.
He has a solid middle game
off the bounce with pull up
J’s and floaters but needs to
further develop his outside
shooting to enhance his
stock. He rattled in one three
but took a step back on the
next possession and air
balled the shot pretty bad.
Strong frame and good
speed in the open floor.
Fierce competitor and a
leader. MM+/MM
Dezmine Wells, 6’4 SF
Word of God 2011, has an
imposing frame and is a
powerful athlete with great
bounce. Wells is known for
his freight train mentality of
attacking the rim and converting in traffic. HM/ Xavier

Terry Whisnant, 6’4 SG
Cherryville 2011, shot the
ball well all day in the
glimpses we caught. HM
Anthony Williams, 6’8 C
Waccamaw Academy 2011,
had a solid showing and
proved to be a formidable
player in the post. LM+
Terrence Williams, 6’4 SG
West Mecklenburg 2011,
had one of the most impressive days of anyone at the
camp. Williams, a onetime
UNCW commit, proved he
could play at a higher level
with his development on the
court and overall showing
during the day. Williams
stroked the ball from deep all
day and was relentless attacking the rim while also
showing a solid middle
game. His offensive repertoire was limitless; I didn’t

Reggie Dillard, 6’3 SG/SF
Dudley 2012, is gradually
improving his perimeter
shooting and skill level while
also becoming more explosive to go along with his
brute strength.
Carlton Ford, 6’2 PG/SG
Westover 2012, is a very
bouncy slasher that is strong
going to the rim. MM/MM+

Montrezl Harrell, 6’7 PF/SF
North Edgecombe 2012, a lot
to say about Harrell but very
little time to express the sentiments. Having seen him
play since his very first his
first high school basketball
game, to where he stands
now is a serious progression.
He was a 6’4+ post with good
bounce and a solid motor at
our first glimpse while showing high level potential down
the road. Now he is a solid
6’6.5 with extraordinary
bounce and a wingspan that
would wrap around a New
York City block. Harrell consistently hit 15-17 footers and
trey balls all day proving to
be a dangerous storm passing over the Carolina Challenge. His handle has also
improved, but a little coaching is needed to get his work
done with one or two dribbles, something he is very
capable of. Loved it when he
matched up with Quincy
Miller, who is regarded as a
top 5 player nationally.
Harrell did not back down a
bit. Miller is a very chattery
person and one time told
Harell, “You was about to get
it.” Harrell fired back, “No, I
wasn’t” The times Harrell
matched up against Quincy
he kept Quincy in front of him
and caused problems with
his length, strong body and
athleticism. Harrell hit 4
threes, had a jump hook over
his right shoulder and several
powerful dunks in his second
game. One play he took it
coast to coast for an authoritative slam. Harrell played off
his unbelievable athleticism
and heart. Next step for him
will be to find a good coach
to teach him the game. HM
Madison Jones, 6’2 PG
Ravenscroft 2012, was one
of the most impressive 2012
prospects in attendance.
Jones scored at will at the
rim with his sneaky quickness and change of speeds
which allowed very few guys
to slow him down. Jones
scored at will for most of the
camp. The shifty PG also
knocked down a three ball on
occasion and passed the ball
well as a lead guard often
making the extra pass. 6
months ago, Jones had a
devastating knee injury, and
for him to bounce back so
quick and so well really
bodes well for his future development. HMNaShawn Lester, 6’3 SG
Mooresville 2012, is a quick
and athletic player than can
score in a variety of ways
using his good handle and
his ability to get to the basket
and finish. He knocked down
a 3 and converted the foul
shot on one possession. Lester also stayed active on D.
His stock should continue to
rise. HM
Tyler Lewis, 5’11 PG Forsyth Country Day 2012, no
one ever questioned Tyler’s
offensive repertoire, however
it was his defense that raised
concerns due to his height,
body type, etc. Lewis put
those concerns to rest with
his inspired defensive efforts.
He stayed between his man
and the basket and bumped
his man out of his desired
course throughout the day.
On the offensive side of
things, Tyler’s bags of tricks
are extensive. He employs
teardrops, step back threes,
mid range pull-ups and at
5’11 will finish in traffic along
the lines one would expect of
a 6’4 point man with elite
athleticism. The sneaky quick
point man has a great ability
to change speeds to keep
the defender guessing and
has a killer crossover which
allows him to create separation. As a passer, there are
none better in the state of
North Carolina and I doubt in
the country. Extremely unselfish player and a winner. HM
John McBeth Northern Guilford 2012 showed he could
hit the pullup J and will be a
player to follow.
Josh Newkirk, 6’0 PG SE
Raleigh 2012, is a smooth
lead guard that has good
handle, vision and an ability
to score going to the basket.
He also knocked in the three
ball when we saw him. MM/
MM+
Braxton Ogbueze, 6’0 SG
Vance 2012, was his usual
self, using his elite strength,
quickness and ball handling
abilities to score at will all
over the court. Very limited
view of him but he displayed
his usual arsenal of offensive
weaponry. HM
Joseph Uchebo, 6’10 C Oak
Ridge Military 2012. After
ordaining Uchebo the #1
player in the state of North
Carolina with Jurkin, Harrell,
Lewis, Ogbueze and Perea
breathing down his neck vigilantly, Uchebo’s first game
solidified his status. Uchebo
showed an impressive skill
set for a guy his size. The
nimble big man has very
good ball handling abilities
and a very nice looking outside shot for a post as well
as being a top flight rebounder and excellent outlet
passer. His back to the basket game is extensive, filled
with moves and counter
moves. Yes, he is African,
and may be 29 or 30 but
honestly, he has no resemblance of facial hair and the
word out there is that he is
17 from reliable sources. NC

few years, he is on track to
being a sure fire Pro.

T.J. Warren, 6’6 SF Riverside 2012, was pretty quiet in
the game we watched. However he is a solid prospect
that can dial in from deep,
score off the bounce and
defend on the other end. If
he can develop some athleticism he will have a chance to
be very special for a wing.

freshman that can knock
down the outside shot as well
as get to the basket and
score using his solid handle
and quickness. He will be
one to monitor. MM+/HMGreg McClinton, 6’6 SF W-S
Prep 2013, is a very athletic
forward that can step out and
knock down the three ball.
He is a talent for sure but
must kindle his poor body
language to truly see the
player he can become. MM+
Quayshad Williams, 6’7 PF
Greensboro Day 2012, had a
solid day where he showed
he could attack the rim and
score using his good athleticism and knock down the
three ball.
Kennedy Meeks, 6’6 PF
West Charlotte 2013, is a big
bodied forward to watch in
the future. He did not play at
the same level as he had
shown with his high school
team.

Marcus Bryan, 6’5 PF
Ravenscroft 2013, is a smart
player from a high quality
program. He has a very good
skill level and found ways to
be effective while being an
undersized forward. I could
see his recruitment exploding
if he continues to grow. MM
Tyrek Coger, 6’7 PF Upper
Room Christian 2013, is a
big bodied center with an
improving game and proved
to be one of the top 2013
prospects in attendance. He
is able to hit the 15 footer
with great consistency and
with his continued development, he will be a top talent
nationally. HM
Allerik Freeman, 6’1 SG
United Faith 2013, the talented freshman from the
powerhouse school in Charlotte showed a few flashes of
a player to put on your list of
guys to monitor.
Anton Gill, 6’2 SG Ravenscroft 2013, is an athletic
Quinton Ray, 6’0 PG/SG
Middle Creek 2013, also
showed some flashes of getting to the basket and finishing while also hitting the mid
range pull up
Donte Reynolds, 6’6 PF
Kinston 2013, is the next
great player out of K-Town
continuing the long list of
guys to stake the town out as
a basketball hot bed. He is
still has a ways to go and a
few more inches to grow.
Reynolds blocked a few
shots and threw in a nice
back to the basket move. He
ran the floor well and is a
good athlete. MM+
JaQuel Richmond, 6’0 SG
Dudley 2013, can hit the midrange jumper and is a player
his head coach who seems
to have a UNC pipeline (a la
William Graves and PJ
Hairston) has been buzzing
about all year.
Patrick Rooks United Faith
2013 is another athletic
freshman guard from Shaun
Wiseman’s program that
showed a flash here and
there. We expect him to develop into a solid player as
well as he already is a player
with a few bags of tricks that
he used against older players. MM+/MM
