Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi, FNSE has warned players in electrical equipment manufacturing in the country not to produce low quality accessories and distribute same in the Nigerian market. He said at this crucial period that the federal government is working hard to stabilize electricity supply in the country, electrical accessories meant for the indigenous market must meet international quality in all ramification for the electricity resuscitation programme to be successful. Olorunfemi listed industrial revival and job creation with the attendant impact on the general economy as some of the advantages of stable power in any nation. He assured that the robust investment being made in the sector will no doubt enhance the national aspiration of joining the mega economies of the world in 2020. The President spoke during a visit to Elswedy Electric Nigeria Limited, Lagos. On Friday, 7th March, 2014, he led a team of Engineers to the company to undertake an industrial tour on request. The company has specialty in the power sector He urged the Company to step up effort on capacity building of its staff. He also urged the management of the Company to take a bold step by joining the NSE to secure the Corporate Firm Membership for its organization. Similarly, the President tasked the management to assist qualified staff of its Company to take advantage of the presence of many Branches of NSE within Lagos to secure Membership of the Society. PAGE 2 He advised them to take note of the heavy traffic situation of Lagos and be guided accordingly in the identification of a Branch in which they could always join other Engineers promptly on meeting days and participate actively in the activities. He persuaded the management to partner with the NSE by advertising in the Nigerian Engineer magazine and support programmes of the Society. Most importantly, he called on the Company to support the big event, WECSI 2014. He assured that NSE will assist the company in its marketing effort. Earlier, the Managing Director of the Company, Mr. Raed Hassanieh welcomed the President and THE ENGINEER Ikeja Branch to Strengthen Partnership with Lagos Gov’t The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi, FNSE has charged the Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers to strengthen partnership with the Lagos State government. Olorunfemi spoke at the Ralph Alabi Engineering Centre (RAEC) Ikeja, on Friday, 4th April, 2014 at the investiture ceremony of Engr. Adeolu Ogundare, MNSE, who has mounted the Branch’s saddle as the new Chairman. He said such a relationship will be advantageous in many ways as it will provide the opportunity for the Branch to contribute its quota to the development of the State through professional advices. In the same vein, he stated that the Branch also stand to gain a lot of privileges from the State government if smooth relationship exists between them. his team. He stated that the Nigeria plant was established in 2008 in Lagos to be a significant contributor to the country’s development. According to him, the Company started with the production of oil immersed distribution transformer of up to 3000 KVA achieving a market share of 10% in 2010. Hassanieh further said that the Company deliberately deepened its activities by delving into the production of prepaid meters, energy saving lamps, fiber glass poles, wire and cables. He however, outlined challenges facing the Company which include the lack of infrastructure like, water, power amongst others which if eliminated could ease production. He urged the new Chairman to promote team work amongst the EXCO and Members and prioritize capacity building initiatives. He also tasked the Members to support the Chairman and EXCO in order to take the Branch to an enviable height. Ogundare in his speech disclosed that the Branch has continued to nurture a favourable relationship with the State government over the years. He thanked the government for the provision of a plot on which the Branch is constructing its complex and called on corporate organizations and public spirited individuals to make generous donations to enable the Branch complete the project. He said that professional development of Members will take a centre stage in his administration. He stated “We intend to give quality attention to the professional development and nurturing of our Members, helping and assisting them to maximize their potentials”. Declaring the workshop open, the NSE President, Engr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi, FNSE, underscored the relevance of capacity building in enhancing optimal performance in the work space. He noted that the need for regular training is essential in view of modern developments occasioned by increasing knowledge and technological advancement. Olorunfemi pointed out that the timing for the training was apt in view of his administration’s resolve to adequately equip members of the Society as well as staff of the Secretariat, with the requisite tools to drive his vision of rebranding the NSE.
