Skill level 2 The Wizard of Webs Courtesy of Wilton Enterprises® Supplies: • Spider-Man Pan • Decorative icing tips: #3, #16, #21 • Spider-Man icing color set • Royal blue icing color • White ready-to-use rolled fondant (48 oz.) • Color Mist food color spray: Yellow, Blue, Violet • 101 Cookie cutter set • Cake board • Piping gel • Decorator brush set • 18" Round heavy cardboard or foam core • Cornstarch • 1 Cake recipe of your choice • 1 Butter cream icing recipe – see below Directions: • 2 tablespoons Milk** • 101 Cookie cutter set • Cake board • Piping gel • Decorator brush set • 18" Round heavy cardboard or foam core • Cornstarch • 1 Cake recipe of your choice • 1 Butter cream icing recipe – see below Butter Cream Icing Ingredients: • 1/2 cup Solid vegetable shortening • 1/2 cup Butter or margarine* • 1 teaspoon Wilton® clear vanilla extract • 4 cups Sifted confectioners’ sugar (approx. 1 lb.) Butter Cream Icing Directions: 1. Cream butter and shortening with electric mixer. Add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. 2. Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy. Keep icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to use. For best results, keep icing in an airtight container in refrigerator when not in use. Can be stored 2 weeks. Rewhip before using. Yield: 3 cups *Substitute all vegetable shortening and 1/2 teaspoon Wilton® No-Color Butter Flavor for pure white icing and stiffer consistency. ** Add 3-4 tablespoons light corn syrup per recipe to thin before icing cake. Directions: 1. Bake cake in Spider-Man pan. Let cool. Remove cake from pan. Ice cake sides and background areas smooth. 2. Referring to photo, outline body and web design on suit with #3 icing tip. 3. Outline and pipe in black and white eye areas with #3 icing tip. Smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch. 4. Cover body, head, arms and hands with #16 icing tip stars. Set aside. 5. Brush 18" round board with a light layer of piping gel; cover with fondant. 6. Spray center area with blue Color Mist and outer area with violet. Divide board into 12ths. Referring to photo, pipe tip #16 strings in butter cream icing from edge to center at each division point; add curved lines with #16 icing tip for web effect. 7. Position cake on board; pipe a shell bottom border with tip #21. 8. Using alphabet cutters from cookie cutter set, cut out fondant message, spray letters with yellow Color Mist. Brush backs of letters very lightly with water and attach to board. Serves 12. Skill Level: Some experience helpful Due to seasonal nature of project, supplies are available for a limited time only.
