Availability Requirements
• Availability is MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure) & Repair Time
• For Åsgard, availability is set to ~96% uptime of subsea plant (20 d pr year)
• Means; REPAIR TIME = 5 days response time + 5 d replacement / year
• Means; COMPRESSOR MODULE REPAIR IN Hs = 4.5m
Hs = 4.5m / Hmax = 9m
????????
Are you CRAZZZY?
• Crane operations / heavy structures are normally < 2.5m Hs
• Guided system for modules is required, i.e. Horizontal Forces
• No heavy manned operations at deck, e.g. sea fastening
• Vessel without green water on deck required
• Strong enough modules – Structural Integrity!
Hs = 4.5m / Hmax = 9m
????????
Structural Integrity
• Module Design Criteria in Aker Contract (2010);
• DAF = 2.0 of Submerged weight (Slack Sling Criteria)
• Modules to be designed for Guiding / Handling System (not defined)
• Installation forces to be calculated by Technip (2012)
• North Sea Giant – RAO
• Orcaflex - Irregular waves – DnV «Planning of Marine Operations»
• Model testing  Drag / Added Mass / Slamming Coeffisients
• Aker to verify structural integrity (after modules being built )
• VERY EXITING…………

Conclusive Model Testing
Model Testing – Campaign 1
 Forced Oscillation and
Slamming Tests in
Calm Water
 Definition of the
hydrodynamic
coefficients to be
used in the analysis
 Led to a significant
reduction in the drag
loads compared to
previous analysis
based on DNV
coefficients

Model Testing – Campaign 2
 Fixed Modules in Regular
Waves with and without
current
 Study of the wave loads
during the splash zone
crossing
 Little influence of wave
period and current, less
conservative estimation of
slamming
 Realization of the same setup
in OrcaFlex and SIMO show
good agreement and
conservatism in the peak
loads
Conclusive Model Testing
Model Testing – Campaign 3
 Vessel in Irregular Waves - SHS and Moonpool
 Estimation of loads in scenarios closer to reality
 The loads from analysis (used in the structural
design) are proved to be on the safe side
 The scales effects are
verified to be acceptable
(1:30 vs. 1:10)
 No green water on deck,
some spray
