Use the sentences A–H to complete the text. There are two extra sentences you don’t need. U Blog M PL E My family and I went to Ireland last summer and we had a fantastic time! There was so much to do and see, but we started with the castles, of course. The first one we visited was Blarney Castle. My mum and sister really wanted to go there because of the Blarney Stone. 1______ Now they’ll probably never be quiet and will get on our nerves! SA Another castle we visited was Ballygally Castle. This castle is also a hotel and some friends of ours were staying there. Ballygally Castle is right by the sea and sandy beaches. 2______ Her name is Lady Isobel Shaw and she goes around the hotel at night and bangs on the guests’ doors. Fortunately, they say she’s friendly! We were staying in a tent on a campsite in County Cork for a few days, but unfortunately it rained most of the time. 3______ One day, we visited Cork city, a busy port which is built on an island. We also took the opportunity to look around the town of Cobh, where the houses are painted in different colours. Cobh was also the last place where the Titanic stopped on its first and last trip. I wanted to visit a lighthouse, so my parents took us to a famous lighthouse called Fastnet. It’s the tallest and widest rock tower (that is, it’s built on a rock in the sea) in Ireland and the UK! 4______ There’s also a yacht race called the Fastnet Race that goes from England to Ireland and around the rock every two years. After that, we did a bit of boating of our own down the River Shannon. We went on a boat that was actually like a houseboat: it went very slowly through the Irish countryside, past small towns and villages, and it was very easy to use. 5______ The days we had on the boat were very relaxing but my mobile didn’t have a signal and I couldn’t text my friends. Anyway, after those quiet days we all got really enthusiastic about a day out in Dublin! We decided to go on a bus tour so we could take lots of photos. 6______ Then we visited some family friends who live near Dublin in a huge old house by the sea. The day we went there, the sea was unbelievable – huge waves crashing onto the rocks!
