We are excited that you are joining us for the first step in your SCSU journey. Please sign in, grab a
bite to eat, and mingle with staff and other students. Students who will be living on-campus in the Fall
can visit the Office of Residence Life in ASC 201 to receive their fall housing assignments! You will
have your first opportunity to take your Hoot Loot ID picture in the ASC Recreation Room. The Health
Center, Athletics Department (for NCAA athletes), Financial Aid Office and Bursar’s Office will also be
available.
In this opening session, members of the university’s executive cabinet will welcome students and
families, followed by a special presentation by the outstanding orientation staff.
All groups will be led by Orientation Ambassadors, or “OA.s” These energetic and knowledgeable

student leaders will guide you through small group activities and interactive sessions, which have been
An Orientation Snapshot designed to help you process important information. These “connection sessions” will be based on the
programs and workshops held throughout the session. To begin, OAs will facilitate an important
conversation on some of the expectations you should have of your orientation experience and what
Southern expects from you during this program.
Learning Your Academic This session will focus on the academic program you will follow throughout your academic journey at
Southern.

You are invited to browse the Resource Fair in the ASC Ballroom. Representatives of university offices
will provide informational materials about programs and services and answer your questions. After you
browse the Resource Fair, enjoy lunch with new friends. If you have not taken your Hoot Loot ID
picture, you have an opportunity to do so during this time.

Students will have the opportunity to choose from several breakout sessions to learn about an area
they find interesting. Session options include health and wellness, financial responsibility and
academic success plus more!

This time has been set aside to explore campus on your own. If you would like assistance in finding a
particular office, would like a guided tour of campus or would like to learn more about SCSU
technology, please visit the Club and Organization Resource Room located in ASC 217. Lastly, if you
have yet to take your Hoot Loot ID picture, you can do so at the Hoot Loot Office located in the
Wintergreen Building.

Students living on campus may move in on Saturday, August 24th.
Sunday, August 25th and Monday, August 26th are additional orientation days for all transfer students – Transfer students are invited to return to
campus on Saturday, August 25th (9am-7pm) and Sunday, August 26th (9am– 7pm) for New Student Welcome Weekend. Programs, workshops, and
activities are designed to further educate new students on critical topics and to ensure that they are prepared to enter their first semester at Southern.
TRANSFERmation- On Monday, August 27th, the Transfer Student Faculty Mentors from each department and program at Southern will be meeting with
incoming transfer students at an event called TRANSFERmation, to welcome you to campus and provide you with specific information about your chosen
