Let Dry) Objective-TSW create Procedure- Two options follow: 1. For each child, paint pointer, ring, and middle fingers of one hand blue or red. 2. Paint rest of hand including thumb and pinky and 1/3 to ½ of forearm brown. 3. Press painted hands & fingers onto light colored construction paper 3. When dry, add details to 3 red or blue birds such as orange beak, eyes, Or: 1. For each child, paint both hands brown 2. Press one hand at an angle onto the paper 3. Press the other hand, also at an angle, onto the paper, overlapping the wrist of the first hand, forming the outer shape of a nest 4. When dry, paint fingers blue or red and press them on the inside of the nest. 5. When dry, add details to red or blue birds such as orange beak, eyes, or even yarn for a cute touch. Students cut out numbers from newspapers and magazines 2. Students glue numbers onto background sheet of paper, creating a collage. 1. Heat cheese sauce or dip 2. Discuss the word Nachos with students and allow them to determine that the word starts with the letter n. 3. Distribute a small bowl of chips to each child and allow them to determine the general shape of the chips. 4. Top chips with melted cheese and allow students to enjoy! Materials- small index cards, pictures of things people do in the middle of the day and at night, magnet strips, one picture of the sun and one picture of the moon. Procedure1. Teacher glues pictures of things done in the middle of the day and things done during the night onto individual index cards (1 picture per card). Also place the sun on one card with “Noon” written on it and the moon on another card with “Night” written on it. 2. Teacher may laminate cards for durability & attach a magnet strip to the back of each card 3. Place the sun and moon cards on opposite sides of magnetic board & mix up cards 4. Students take turns selecting cards and placing in the appropriate column – done during day and done during night. Ask students to predict what will happen to the mark in a few days. 3. Procedure1. Prior to lesson, teacher glues craft sticks for each child based on the number of syllables in his/her name (ie: Susan – 2 sticks glued end to end.) 2. Each Student claps out syllables for name & after correctly telling how many claps it took to say name, is given his/her “stem” (sticks) 3. Students count the number of letters in their names and glue the correct number onto the outside of the circle. Glue the flower to the stem. 4. Teacher writes each studentʼs name on a piece of white construction paper using white crayon (write name in pencil on back so you can easily pass out the correct papers) 2. To play game, set cookies on cookie sheet with names up 3. Students select cookie and tell whose name is on it. Use spatula to lift the cookie to check for correctness against picture. Procedure1. Each child arranges the letter tiles to spell his/her name. 2. Students use name card for reference in spelling name with goal of eventually spelling name out without the use of the name card. Teacher attaches the boy and girl cut outs with names on plants, playground equipment, halls, etc before class or during planning time. 2. Each student receives a piece of paper with his/her name written on it. 3. Class goes on a treasure hunt walk with directions that each student should hunt for his/her own name, exactly the way it is written on the paper. 4. This personʼs picture should appear on this page. Continue like this until last page when picture of entire class appears and the words “I see my new friends looking at me!” 2. Brown Bear, Brown Bear should be read sometime prior to teacher sharing class book. 3. Allow students to “read” along with you as you share the Friendship Book 1. Place “cookies” (tan fun foam w/ childʼs name on one side and picture on other) in cookie jar 2. Sing the song “Who Stole the Cookies From the Cookie Jar?” and remove one name during each stanza for the students to identify. Pour mixture into 9”X13” pan, refrigerate for at least 3 hours or until firm 3. Dip the bottom of the pan in warm water for about 15 seconds. 4. Students take turns cutting their first name initial with cookie cutters. 5. Eat and enjoy! Create a mixture of shaving cream, paint, and sand 2. Allow students to paint with their hands using the mixture 1. Take a silent walk as a class in the halls, outside, anywhere that different sounds may be heard. Record all sounds heard from time leaving class to time returning. 2. Allow students to recall sounds they heard, play back recording, and allow students to mimic sounds heard. Other options: allow students to paint with just plain shaving cream or chocolate pudding. Ask students to describe how the foods smell, feel, look, sound (as gently shake plate), and finally taste. Evaluation- Teacher observation experiment Fresh coffee grounds, scoops and spoons Procedure1. Put fresh coffee grounds in clean, dry sensory table. Add scoops and spoons. 2. Materials- 4 pkgs. flavored Jello, 2 ½ cups boiling water, 1 pkg. unflavored gelatin. Procedure1. Pour Jello into large bowl and add unflavored gelatin. Add boiling water and stir until mixture is completely dissolved. Pour into a pan and chill in refrigerator at least 4 hours 2. Cut into squares or use cookie cutters to make shapes. 3. Give each student a jiggly square/shape and allow him/her to use his/her senses to explore the treat. Evaluation- Teacher observation
