Total 3748-010 1 TV game show Scenario You buy a magazine and see an advertisement on the back cover. It is a casting call for contestants to apply for a new series of a TV game show. You have never been on TV before and are quite excited by the idea. You read the advertisement (Document 1) and to find out more, a web page (Document 2). Functional Skills English – Reading – sample assessment 3748-010 2 TV game show Document 1 THE ANSWERS The producers of 7G-TV’s hit game show ‘The Answers’ have just started production of a new series for prime time TV. Now we are looking for a new crop of lively contestants to take part. Do you have THE ANSWERS? We are on a nationwide search for outgoing, smart and fun four-player teams to brave the famous answer chair in a bid to win a silver trophy and possibly walk away with a large cash prize for their chosen charity. Each team must work together, answering general knowledge questions in order to win themselves a potential prize pot worth thousands of pounds. You must be able to think outside the box, as your team races against the clock. Stay ahead of the clock and share the pot, get caught and you’ll lose the lot! You’ll also get the chance to visit a television studio and experience first hand how programs are recorded. It’s guaranteed to be fun. • Do you have friends or family members who are game for a laugh? • Are you all aged over 14? * • Are you available to attend a 3 hour audition in May and to film for 2 days in early June? Then why not see if you have the answers? You do not need experience. However, it does help if you enjoy watching TV game shows. We will provide full instructions and the production team are always around to give useful advice. Don’t forget, there will be rehearsals too. Ordinary people solve puzzles, answer questions or take a chance in the hope of winning cash and prizes. While many viewers are content to watch a TV game show from the comfort of their homes, some viewers are desperate to become a contestant. Here’s our winning formula! Use a strong and well sealed envelope for your application. It doesn't have to be pretty, • Do write about why you want to be on the show but do check that it is secure. There is only a small chance that you will make it onto a game show. Producers receive thousands of applications for only a handful of places. However, you’ll never know unless you give it a go.
