DOCTRINES AND PRINCIPLES TAUGHT
WHAT WAS HAPPENING WHEN THIS REVELATION WAS GIVEN
WHY
March 1830
WHERE THIS REVELATION WAS GIVEN:
WHERE
WHEN
WHEN THIS REVELATION WAS GIVEN:
TITLE:
Joseph had hired a printing press to print 5,000 copies of the Book of Mormon. The cost would be
$3,000 and Martin Harris signed his farm as collateral to guarantee payment to the press. There arose
some threats that people would not buy the book so the printer ceased printing the book. Martin became
concerned and asked Joseph to approach the Lord on the subject. This revleation followed.
WORDS LOOKED UP
1-3
Christ is the beginning and the end. He accomplished the
will of the Father! All things are subdued unto Him. He
has all power. Even to the destroying of Satan and his
works!
4-7
Everyone must repent or suffer. The Lord is endless - or there is Revoke: to put the end to the
no way around it. He will not revoke the judgments He shall pass. operation of something.
It is not written that the torment for those that suffer will not
end. but rather it will be endless. The scriptures are clear and
expressive to work upon our hearts.
8-9
10-12
13-15
16-17
Alpha & Omega: the first and
last letters of the greek alphabet.
Subdue: overcome or bring under
control
Understanding this doctrine is a mystery. It is not
something known without revelation. It is important for us
to know.
Understanding this will help you enter into His rest.
INSIGHTS, THOUGHTS, LESSONS LEARNED
The Lord is letting them know exactly who He is and that He is in charge. Their fear
over the threat of some townspeople is nothing compared to His power. Joseph and
Martin are still growing in their testimonies, knowledge and faith. Years from now
Joseph would probably not have worried over such a trivial thing as some threats of
not purchasing the Book of Mormon compared to the work of the Restoration.
The Lord is teaching about what will happen to those who refuse to repent. Repent
or suffer are the options. Endless in the scriptures does not necessarily mean
without end, but eternal.
All Christian religions teach of a hell, but Christ is explaining that this is a
mystery. If the natural mind can figure it out it isn’t a mystery. It must be
revealed. Christ is explaining that he must reveal it, it can’t be understood without
revelation.. And it is necessary for the Apostles to understand this in order to
fulfill their responsibility.
Christ is endless. The punishment given from his hand is
endless. Endless is his name. Wherefore: eternal
punishment is God’s and endless punishment is God’s.
One definition of endless is joined Christ and God are endless and eternal. Therefore, “endless” or “eternal”
at the ends. One eternal round. punishment is their punishment. It doesn’t mean that there will be no end to the
punishment (vs.6) but rather it is THEIR punishment. Eternal is his name, so
instead of saying “eternal punishment” you can say “God’s punishment”
Christ commands us to repent. If we don’t repent we
smitten by the rod of his mouth and we will suffer. The
suffering will be sore. How sore, exquisite and hard to bear,
we know not.
Exquisite: extreme or intense
Christ has already suffered for those sins so if they repent
they will not have to suffer. However, if they don’t repent
they will have to suffer.

Doctrine & Covenants 19

This is a good example that shows that Christ’s commandments are for our own
happiness. He explains the consequences for not repenting, so He commands us to
repent. Those who will not access the Atonement, will have to suffer for their own sins.
This will be done during the millennium as they await their resurrection. This is not
talking of Satan and his devils
The constant in this verse is that Christ has already suffered and fulfilled the
demands of the law. The variable is whether we will align ourselves with Him or whether
we will refuse Him, therefore causing His suffering to be in vain and we will have to
suffer still.

DOCTRINE & COVENANTS 6:36
Look Unto Christ in Every Thought
Words you looked up/
Definitions
Look unto me in
every thought; doubt
not, fear not.
Look: to direct one’s
attention
Every: in every respect,
completely
Thought: consideration or
ref lection
What this verse is teaching
We should keep Christ in the center of our
thoughts. A spouse who is devoted to the other
will always consider them in their thoughts and
choices. As we make choices throughout the day
we should look to Christ and everything He has
taught us to make those choices and think about
if that is what He would want for us. As we look
to Him for guidance, we should not doubt or fear
but exercise full faith as we walk forward.
Why you think this scripture is a scripture mastery verse.
Because if we do this we can never stray and we will be
ready to serve in whatever capacity the Lord woud
have us. We will become who we are meant to become
and be ready and open to receive revelation and be
guided to who we can help. We wil continually increase
our knowledge and capabilities. We won’t just be
righteous, we will be great servants.
* We covenant to always remember Him
What does this scripture mastery teach you about:
JESUS CHRIST
He wants us to look to Him and He will communicate with us as we do. Therefore, he must be alive and able and willing to hear us. He wants to be
involved in every part of our lives. He knows that His ways will lead us to righteousness and happiness. He knows what we should do in every
situation. Because He suffered all things and loves us pefectly He can be our guide. He understands that we have fears and doubts and assures
us that we should not doubt or fear.
FAITH
We have many sources of information that can guide us. Books, websites, friends.. We should exercise our faith in Christ as we move through life.
And not just on Sunday, but every day with every thought. How much we do this can ref lect the kind of faith we have in Him. As our faith in Him
grows, the more we will look to Him. If we have faith in other sources, then we may look to them more than we look to Him.
REVELATION
We should seek to be guided in every part and every aspect of our life.
APPLICATION
Brainstorm specific ways you can live the counsel in this scripture
mastery. List your ideas here:
Search through General Conference talks and find a great quote that teaches about the
doctrines and principles in this scripture mastery. Record that quote here.
Looking unto the Lord in every thought is the only possible way we can be the kind
of men and women we ought to be.
Pray continually. Keep a prayer in our heart always.
Pray for help to always remember Him
Study the life of Christ so that we can know Him and His ways
Study Christ’s doctrine so we can know His words and they can guide us.
Fill my home with reminders of Christ and His gospel
Have daily scripture study so His doctrines are on my mind
Keep a daily journal so I can review my day and how I lived my covenants
Prepare myself each week for the Sacrament
Conisder scenarios I may find myself in ahead of time and pray for guidance
The Lord asked the question of His disciples, “What manner of men ought ye to
be?” He then answered His own question by saying, “Even as I am.” (3 Ne. 27:27.)
To become as He is, we must have Him on our minds—constantly in our thoughts.
Every time we partake of the sacrament, we commit to “always remember him.”
(Moro. 4:3; Moro. 5:2; D&C 20:77, 79.)
If our thoughts make us what we are, and we are to be like Christ, then we must
think Christlike thoughts..

DESCRIPTION
THE GODHEAD
DESCRIPTION, OVERVIEW, IMPORTANT DOCTRINES TO UNDERSTAND:
The first article of faith states, “We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.” These three beings make up the Godhead. They preside over this
world and all other creations of our Father in Heaven.
The true doctrine of the Godhead was lost in the apostasy that followed the Savior’s mortal ministry and the deaths of His Apostles. This doctrine began to be restored when 14-year-old Joseph
Smith received his First Vision
Although the members of the Godhead are distinct beings with distinct roles, they are one in purpose and doctrine. They are perfectly united in bringing to pass Heavenly Father’s divine plan of
salvation.

STUDY NOTES
These STUDY NOTES are more simplified than the STUDY BOOK. This book is ideal for family study and
classroom study. This book has many of the same pages as the STUDY BOOK (see below), but the pages for the
individual revelations are made less specific so parents or teachers can use them as they wish.
The page numbers in this book match the STUDY BOOK exactly. So, if a parent or teacher is using their STUDY
BOOK, they can easily reference their child or student’s STUDY NOTES. For example, the pages for Doctrine &
Covenants 76 will be exactly the same in both books.
This book is available in a digital format that you can print from home, or in a published book format.
Included in this book are the following
- Table of Contents
- Plan of Salvation study pages
- Understanding the Doctrine & Covenants questions
- Church History Timeline
- A page to record quotes about the importance of the Doctrine & Covenants
- Study templates for each section in the Doctrine & Covenants. Each page has a place to record when, where ans
why the revelation was given; note lines and boxes to record how that section applied to their life; and their favorite
scripture from that section. We have given you a sample page of one of the pages.
- Study pages for each Scripture Mastery verse.
- Study pages for 22 basic doctrines.

D&C 19:1
I love this introduction because of the reason the revelation was given. They were worried about the
financial consequences of people threatening not to buy the Book of Mormon. The Lord answers by
basically saying He is the beginning and the end - basically, why are they fearing a few men when
the Redeemer of the World gave them specific instructions of what to do! I think we all do that
sometimes. It would be good for us all to keep this perspective.

MY COMMENTARY
We understand the incredible value of recording your thoughts, insights, and teaching ideas as you study. We provided places for you to do so in the STUDY BOOKS and STUDY NOTES; however, we realize that although some
verses may only invite a line or two of thoughts, other verses will need several pages to record the thoughts you have.
We encourage you to keep a note pad nearby as you study out of the STUDY BOOK so you can record your own
commentary. That commentary is valuable to you and to future generations. If you would like a matching book to
your STUDY BOOK, we have provided this 120 page book for you.
See the following sample page to see what the interior is like.
* This book is only available in a bound, published book. It is note available in a digital format.

Christ’s words are TRUE and FAI THF UL
D& C 1
I love how this scripture tells us to search these commandments (the Doctrine & Covenants) and then says, “for they are true and

faithful”. True means “accurate or exact”. So, the revelations, or any scriptures, is accurate of exact. “And the prophecies and promises

which are in them shall all be fulfilled.” The Lord knows the reality of these prophecies and He is telling us this.
_______________________________________________________________
This reminds me of “magnetic north” and “true north”. Our compass points us north, but it isn’t exact. “True north” is exact. If we know

how to calculate, and then follow TRUE north, then we will always get exactly where we want to go, and we will never get lost. Just like

the prophecies in these revelations.

The
Lord emphasizes this point by saying, “and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all
