Halloween History
Halloween is a tradition that comes from Ireland. People
there believed that spirits and ghosts left the grave the 31
of October. To scare the ghosts away, people dressed up
in scary costumes. They also left food and other treats
outside their houses to make the ghosts friendly.
Between the years 1845 and 1850, more than 700 000
people from Ireland moved to the U.S.A. They took with
them the traditions of Halloween. Today, Halloween is
one of the biggest feasts in America.
At Halloween, children dress up
As ghosts witches and devils.
They knock on houses and say
"Trick or treat". If they get a treat,
they go away. If not, they do a trick.
This is a pumpkin with a candle inside.
People decorate their houses with
pumpkins. The pumpkin shall scare
away ghosts and spirits.
