She is also a Lymphoedema Physiotherapist in Singapore General Hospital. She received her Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Curtin University (Australia) in 1997. She obtained a Lymphoedema Certified Therapist from Australia (Lymphoedema Association of Australia, 1998) and then to Dr Vodder School (North America), in 1999 in Victoria, British Columbia, making her the first in South East Asia region to obtain the certification. She has been heavily involved in the management of lymphoedema cases since then. She had commenced the Lymphoedema Clinic for patients with Oncology in 2000 (at Physiotherapy Department, Singapore General Hospital), went on to expand the services to patients with Vascular conditions in 2001 and in 2002 started managing patients with palliative conditions. Ms Hosain, was awarded part-sponsorship by Hospice Council to attend the National Lymphoedema Network Conference in Nevada, USA in 2004. She was also awarded the Singhealth HMDP for Rehabilitation in Oncology in 2006. Currently she is heavily involved in looking into rehabilitation of patients who have undergone Bone Marrow Transplant. She has been involved in some researchers in oncology, orthopaedic and lymphoedema management. She and her team are also looking at the clinical outcome measures on patients who have undergone a lymphovenous anastomosis. Introduction Programme Outline In the early part of the 20th century, the importance of the lymphatic system was little known or researched. Yet working in the south of France, with chronic respiratory conditions, Dr Emil and Estrid Vodder developed a system of manual drainage techniques, which significantly improve the activity of the lymphatic vessels. Course Outline: • MLD basic strokes • MLD application to each body part • Anatomy and physiology of the lymph vessel system, connective tissue, effects of MLD and contraindications • The way MLD affects lymphedema Target Participants and Pre-requisite • Physiotherapists(PT), PT Assistants, Occupational Therapists(OT), OT Assistants, Nurses, Massage Therapists and Health professionals treating patients with lymphedema. • For Basic course: Diploma/Degree award and transcripts must be faxed over with the application form.
