WHAT
IS A
FOOD & FUND DRIVE?
City Church invites you to
join in their FeedSA
campaign! Join in the
fight against hunger and
help us collect 250,000
pounds of food during the
springtime harvest season! To join the drive,
please fill out the attached registration form
and return it as soon as

A Food & Fund Drive is
an excellent opportunity
for anyone in the greater
Southwest Texas community to become direct
partners with the San
Antonio Food Bank in our
fight to end hunger.
Food drives are critical to
the ongoing mission of
collecting and redistributing millions of pounds
of food to individuals and
families in Southwest
Texas who don’t know

where their next meals
coming from.
Monetary donations are
equally as important and
are used to leverage the
San Antonio Food Bank’s
bulk buying power. For
example, $1.00 donated
provides 10 lbs. of food
for needy families.

SIX
EASY STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL FOOD DRIVE
1. Register your food drive.
4. Start early and promote.
If you have not yet registered your food drive, complete the
attached registration form and return it to the San Antonio
Food Bank. The Food & Fund Drive Coordinator will contact
you to help plan further details of your drive or event.
Share information throughout your organization and
community to raise involvement early in the process. Make
posters, flyers and signs to promote your drive. Show videos to share the importance of your donation. You can also
remind people about your food drive in your weekly bulletins or Sunday school classes. If your church has a website,
post information about your drive during the Food & Fund
Drive to keep everyone updated on its progress.
2. Set your goals.
No matter what your approach, it helps to have a specific goal
for your Food & Fund Drive. This gives participants something to work toward and a benchmark for success. The goal
can be based on the amount raised the last time, or you can
set a goal based on the number of participants.
EXAMPLES:
A church with 300 people:
300 people x 5 pounds per person = 1,500 pounds of food
MPLE 2
A church with 300 people:
300 people x $5 per person = $1,500 or 15,000 pounds of
food ($1 = 10 pounds of food)
3. Gather food boxes and containers.
Printing paper boxes work really well for Food & Fund Drives.
You can go to local copy/print shops and ask for the boxes.
They are sturdy and still manageable when filled with food,
plus you can have fun with decorations.
The San Antonio Food Bank can provide barrels for food collection. We do ask Food & Fund Drive organizers to limit barrel requests to large food drive events where more than one
barrel is necessary.
TIME...IS
5. Set up a central location.
Collection sites should be visible and easy to find. Collect
donated food and grocery items at central locations like
sanctuary's, library's and reception areas. Assign one or
two individuals to be responsible for collecting financial
contributions. Make all checks payable to the San Antonio
Food Bank. If you are using a virtual drive, share the link.
6. Schedule barrel delivery/pick ups or
food drop-offs.
Contact us to swap full barrels during the drive or to pick up
barrels at the end of the drive. Our drivers make pick-ups
and deliveries between 8am and 5pm, Monday through
Friday. Please call at least three business days in advance.
Please note that we cannot assure a specific time of barrel
drop-off or pick-up. Transportation requests may be subject
to weather or driver availability. Please allow additional time
during the holiday season. If barrels were not used, you can
schedule a drop off at the Food Bank. Food can be dropped
off Monday through Thursday, 8am-5pm and Fridays, 8am4:30pm. This keeps our transportation costs down. When
you deliver your collected donations, you help us keep
overhead costs low PLUS you can get a tour of the San
Antonio Food Bank to see your donation in action!
OF THE ESSENCE!
The San Antonio Food Bank understands how valuable the gift of time is in all our lives. That is why we greatly value our
volunteers! You become a partner in the fight against hunger by giving the gift of time by volunteering at the San Antonio Food
Bank after your Food & Fund Drive is complete!
Only through your efforts can we achieve our mission of feeding the hungry in the San Antonio area and throughout Southwest
Texas.
Every year over 25,000 people donate their time to helping the San Antonio Food Bank sort food, pack food, distribute food, cook
food and even GROW fresh food.
Contact our Volunteer Coordinator TODAY at [email protected] and schedule a time for your group to come out!

CREATIVE IDEAS HELP FILL
B A R R E L S A N D F E E D FA M I L I E S !
Here are a couple of innovative suggestions to create energy and team building around your
Food & Fund Drive. Think outside the box and have fun!
Set up coin cans in prominent locations (i.e. sanctuary, main office, Sunday school classes,
concession stands) for people to donate spare change.
2. Encourage your congregation to request an offering with donations. The special offering
could also be in the form of donated food.
3. Ask congregants to bring a bag lunch and donate the money that they would have spent
eating out to the San Antonio Food Bank.
4. “Coins for Cans” ask congregants to donate spare change.
5. Hold a “Hunger Banquet” sharing statistics about hunger in your community.
6. “Meat the Need”- Collect canned meat and protein items to donate.
7. Hold a large drop off day! Encourage all congregants to bring donations on a specific day.
Have monetary donation stations available for those who forget physical donations.
8. Organize a contest between grades, Sunday school classes, youth groups, with awards for
the group that raises the most food and/or financial contributions. Give away prizes like a
pizza lunch, a free party, a longer lunch or an extra recess.
9. Hold a party, picnic lunch, or dance as part of the drive with the price of admission set at 5
cans of food or a $5.00 donation.
10. Get congregants or businesses to donate prizes for a drawing. Sell tickets or give one ticket
for each bag of groceries donated. Hold the drawing at the end of the food drive.
11. Hold a pot luck lunch and ask for donations at the door.
12. Food banks encourage cash donations so they can buy what is most needed. Encourage
your students and parents to make donations on-line thru the Food Bank’s virtual food
drive. Ask the Food & Fund Drive Coordinator about how we can design a customized web
page that you can e-mail blast to all your parents. Take advantage of the San Antonio Food
Bank’s ability to leverage bulk buying and to make purchases at deeply discounted prices.
It’s fast, easy and fun! Making a donation is just a click away!

DaisyCares
Food. Care. Saving Pet’s Lives.
DaisyCares and the San Antonio Food Bank have partnered to
create DaisyCares Pet Food Program– a program designed to provide struggling families and individuals with pet food assistance and medical
care. DaisyCares recognizes that when economic hardship falls upon people, the cost of caring for a pet may be prohibitive. By donating pet food, you
can help preserve the promise of DaisyCares- to save pets’ lives, and keep
pets with their family. DaisyCares is committed to helping needy pets in Bexar County and Central Texas.
