PARISH FINANCIAL REPORT
PHILIPPIANS 4:19
October 5, 2014
God really does provide for those
that are grateful and generous.
This is very difficult for people that
don’t live a stewardship lifestyle to
believe. People are skeptical and
say it’s just coincidence. If you are
skeptical, try living a stewardship
lifestyle for just one month - be
generous with our gifts of time,
talent and treasure and see how
God provides for your needs.

Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
With heartfelt love let us sing of our Eternal Father’s Providence—all-wise, all-powerful and all- gentle.
Oh, the depth of the riches, and the wisdom and the knowledge of God!—
Saint Francis de Sales
In today’s Gospel it is proclaimed: 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.' Many are invited, but few are chosen."
It seems to many that since the Second Vatican Council, the Church has changed its character from being what we might
call “severe” to “loving”. Previous to the Second Vatican Council, it would seem people were most intent on “keeping the
law”. Furthermore, the Church had many more laws to keep. After the Second Vatican Council, it seems that the Church or
people in the Church were more worried about “being nice”. Very seldom do people worry about going to hell, for how
could an all loving God ever create someone only to condemn them to hell. The problem with that idea, is that in order for
that to happen, we humans then lose our freewill. These become philosophical questions that are deep and cannot be answered quickly or lightly. Today’s Gospel does seem to give us some insight into God’s gift of Faith. Remember, the Wedding Guest accepted the invitation to go to the wedding (similar to us when we accept the faith—through baptism, communion and confirmation). Then, as the celebration goes on, (for us our lives) responsibility and authenticity are presented. We
all know how the Gospel story ends.
Hear ye, Hear ye, we will have the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at the 7:00 a.m. Mass on October 16th. Breakfast will follow in the rectory.
We received a letter from the World Apostolate of Fatima here in St. Louis. This is a portion of the letter:
..On Tuesday, October 7, Bishop Emeritus Robert Herman offered the 12:10 Mass at the Cathedral Basilica to inaugurate the “Save the Family” Rosary Crusade. The Crusade was inspired by a homily the bishop gave that closed
the Annual Novena in honor of our Lady of Fatima. In his talk Bishop Herman said that through the praying of the
Rosary many souls could be brought back to the practice of the Faith. He believes that the Family Rosary is the
best place to begin this initiative. During this year of the 800th anniversary of the institution of the Rosary, we are
asking you to consider participating in this most worthy initiative. –Yours in Christ-World Apostolate of Fatima
God Bless,
Fr. H

Little Flower Program
This past April, Pope Francis
stated, “It is necessary to reassert the
strongest opposition to every direct attack
on life, especially innocent and defenseless life, and the unborn child in the
womb is the definition of innocence.
Every Christian is responsible for this
evangelical witness: to protect life in all
its stages with courage and love.”
With this clear encouragement from our
Holy Father, won’t you consider giving a
bit of your time to witness to the sanctity
of every life? 40 Days for Life is a worldwide program of prayer, fasting and
peaceful public witness to end abortion
and heal those wounded by abortion. To
date, almost 9,000 babies and their moms
have been spared the tragedy of abortion
thanks to the witness of 625,000+ people.
Little Flower Church will participate in
this powerful witness on Saturday, October 25. The witness runs from 7am – 7pm
at the Planned Parenthood abortion facility at Forest Park Blvd. and Boyle Ave. in
the Central West End. We would like to
have at least 2 people for each 1 hour
shift. If standing is a problem it is fine to
bring a folding chair.
Please sign up in the All Souls Chapel
after Mass on Oct 4/5 or Oct 11/12. God
calls all of us to be that courageous and
loving witness to life, to pray for his unborn babies, their parents and those who
work at the facility. Are we willing to
listen? Please sign up in the All Souls
Chapel after Mass on Oct 4/5 or Oct
11/12. For more information please call
Maureen Kane at 647-6019.

ARCHDIOCESE OF ST. LOUIS
OFFICE OF THE ARCHBISHOP
October 12, 2014
October 18/19, 2014
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
“Today vast numbers of people still do not know Jesus Christ.” Pope Francis began his message for this year’s celebration of World Mission Sunday
with these words. But he quickly offers us the way to make a joy-filled,
life-giving difference. “World Mission Sunday is a privileged moment
when the faithful of various continents engage in prayer and concrete gestures of solidarity in support of the young Churches in mission lands.”
On October 19, as the Archdiocese of St. Louis celebrates this “privileged
moment” let us join our brothers and sisters around the world who will
gather at the Lord’s Table to celebrate, with great joy, our common vocation as missionaries. Our prayers and concrete gestures of solidarity will
help build local churches, like the church in Mongolia, the world’s youngest Catholic Church, and churches across the globe.
Your financial help on World Mission Sunday, offered in the collection for
the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, will support the 1,150 young
mission dioceses and communities who await the “Good News” of Jesus as
their saving hope.
Pope Francis encourages us to take joyful part in the
Church’s mission to all the nations, as we live our lives
grounded in love for Jesus and concern for the needs of the
most disadvantaged. May World Mission Sunday offer each
one of us an opportunity to accomplish both, as we share the
joy of the Gospel and help the poor by our fervent prayer
and through generous hearts!
