The festival is among the largest and oldest jazz festivals in all of Asia. For their 10th anniversary, the festival invited some of the most distinguished international musicians, including Swiss jazz legend Jojo Mayer. He is known for bringing jazz, drum and bass, jungle and other influences together. He is also famous for his ability to play the rhythms of programmed jungle drum 'n' bass music on acoustic drums, terming this technique ‘reverse engineering’, a phrase borrowed from computing. Mayer started playing drums at an early age and had his first public performance when he was two years old, sitting in with his father's band. At 18 he received his first international exposure when touring with Monty Alexander and backing up Jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie and Nina Simone. In the early 90's he moved from Europe to New York where he worked as a first call sideman for a wide range of artists and styles. Seeking refuge from the increasingly rigid protocol in Jazz and the regressing Pop music industry, he started to gravitate towards the newly emerging subculture of electronic music. Besides his work as a performer he has created award winning and bestselling product designs for the Music Instrument Industry, and he enjoys an excellent reputation as an educator worldwide. In 2014 the Modern Drummer Magazine listed him as one of the 50 greatest drummers of all time.
