AIG APPOINTS RUDI SPAAN PRESIDENT & CEO OF HONG KONG, AND HEAD
OF COUNTRY OPERATIONS FOR HONG KONG AND TAIWAN
Hong Kong, October 10, 2014 – American International Group, Inc. (NYSE: AIG) today
announced that Rudi Spaan has been named President & CEO of AIG Insurance Hong Kong
Limited, and Head of Country Operations for Hong Kong and Taiwan, subject to Hong Kong
regulatory approval.
In addition, Mr. Spaan will retain his regional role as head of Broker and Client Management
(BCM) for Asia Pacific. In this function he will be responsible for broker relationships and
major account management across Asia Pacific.
Prior to leading BCM, Mr. Spaan served in many key AIG leadership positions across Asia
Pacific. He was Executive Vice President, Commercial Division Asia Pacific outside Japan
(2009 to 2013). Prior to that, Mr. Spaan served as Chairman of AIG General Insurance Taiwan
Co. Ltd. (2007 to 2009) and as President of American Home Assurance Company Singapore
(2001 to 2007).

growth and profitability. Rudi’s proven leadership in general management roles, his
experience in both distribution and underwriting, and his excellent understanding of our
business operations, particularly in Asia, make him an ideal choice for this position,” said Jose
Hernandez, President and CEO, Asia Pacific, AIG Property Casualty.

and small,” Mr. Spaan said.
Mr. Spaan joined AIG in 1992 in Belgium. In 1994, he moved to Asia, where he held regional
underwriting and management positions in Hong Kong and Thailand. He currently serves as
Chairman on the AIG APAC Holdings Pte. Ltd. Board and is a director on the AIG Advisors
Korea and AIG Taiwan boards.
