IN NEED OF YOUR SUPPORT – (Important
Reminders for Parents & Carers at Home
Time)
1. Children remain under the care and supervision of staff
in the afternoon until parents and carers collect them
and leave the grounds. To this end, primary children are
asked to sit in courtyards while Infants children are
asked to sit in the designated area in the Hall and when
they are collected are asked to walk with their parent off
the school grounds. For safety and management
reasons, no child is permitted on the Hall stage, including
pre-schoolers. The Hall will be unlocked a little later - at
3:10pm - every afternoon this term to allow K-2 teachers
to settle their classes in the Hall for a more orderly pick
up. If you are talking to a parent or teacher in the Hall or
courtyard after school, please ensure your child is
standing by your side or sitting in the designated area
until you are ready to leave.
2. All parents and carers who are collecting children after
school are asked to leave by the gates near the Hall.
The other gates near Year 6 are heavily congested with
bus and bike riders being dismissed. Your assistance is
appreciated to ensure the safety of everyone.

The Sympathy of our school community is extended to the Adams and Rebecchi families on the death of Rosie &
Suzanne’s grandmother during the holidays – great-grandmother of Abbey, Steffani & Amber-Rose. May she rest in peace
and may the peace and strength of Christ be with her family.
Assistant Principal appointments for
St Joseph’s Regional College and MacKillop College incorporating St Paul’s Campus
Congratulations to the successful applicants for the two new Assistant Principal positions, commencing in 2015 at MacKillop College
incorporating St Paul’s Campus. David Jenkins will be the Assistant Principal Pastoral Care and Staff Support and Adam Kelly will be the
Assistant Principal Curriculum and Administration. The new Assistant Principal roles will be across Years 7 – 12. Congratulations also to
Tim McCosker who will join the current Assistant Principal, Mrs Cath Eichmann at St Joseph’s Regional College. Tim McCosker will be
Assistant Principal Curriculum and Administration and Cath Eichmann will be Assistant Principal Pastoral Care and Staff Support.
Mr Peter Murphy, the current Campus Principal at St Paul’s did not apply for any of these positions.
As we move towards a new administrative structure in 2015, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the current leadership teams
at both MacKillop and St Paul’s. Tim McCosker and David Jenkins have worked collaboratively with the staff for many years and have
done an outstanding job in maintaining academic excellence. MacKillop’s results have been consistently competitive with the Sydney
selective high schools (and certainly one of the best in relation to regional high schools in NSW) over many years and this must be as a
result of leadership and a committed staff. Results are not everything. Preparing young people for the world beyond school requires an
approach that is holistic; an approach that supports students in their physical, emotional and spiritual journeys. Thousands of students
have benefitted from the way in which the school has supported them and the leadership of Tim McCosker and David Jenkins has
significantly contributed to this success.
Likewise the leadership of Peter Murphy over many years and in more recent times, Adam Kelly, has been outstanding. Laying the
foundations for the senior years; nurturing, advising and supporting students through their teenage years is challenging but also
rewarding. Both Peter Murphy and Adam Kelly have for many years worked on building relationships with the students and in particular
forming positive partnerships with parents. St Paul’s has developed a strong culture of making people feel welcome, working together
and striving for the best possible achievements, whether it be in the sporting, cultural or academic arenas. Thank you Peter and Adam
for your respective contributions to the success of St Paul’s.
We are indeed fortunate to be able to maintain the skills, talents and services of Tim McCosker, David Jenkins and Adam Kelly in our
new structure.
It goes without saying that Jim O’Brien has also played a significant role in the formation and ongoing success of Catholic education in
Port Macquarie. To acknowledge Jim’s outstanding contribution, please mark Saturday 20 December in your calendars. There will be
more information in the coming weeks about this important celebration.

INCREASINGLY TECH SAVVY
Last term, Year 6 successfully trialled Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and we are now creating an opportunity for Year 5
to BYOD from Week 3. Notes will be sent home with more information for Year 5 parents. No family is asked to buy a
device, but simply allow an existing device to be brought to school. Year 6 students were surveyed and were
unanimous in their feeling that having greater access to technology had greatly
improved their engagement and experience of learning throughout the school day.
Teachers also report that BYOD has enabled them to create the contemporary learning
experiences that improve student learning.
Through the fundraising efforts of the P & F we have been able to buy 14 mini i-Pads
which has placed a bank of seven i-Pads in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 to start this
term. Year 3 & 4 now have a bank of i-Pads. The i-Pads are used extensively across the
curriculum to enhance content delivery and facilitate personalised learning,
collaboration and communication. Year 5 & 6 have a mix of technology that is working
towards a 1:1 ratio with BYOD supporting school resources. Teachers and students alike are delighted with the
increased access to technology to support learning.
To successfully embed ICT across the school day we need to have clear rules and guidelines. You are reminded that no
child is to use a device before school, at recess, lunch or after school. If this rule is broken, then the device is
confiscated and kept in the office safe. The child will have a Lunch Time Out and a slip is sent home for parent
communication and the device is then returned. Any child found to be misusing or damaging IT in class time will incur a
two week ban. Parents will be rung with a follow-up note sent home. The school curriculum covers aspects of
appropriate use of technology including skills and cyber-safety. You may like to attend the up-coming Parent Assembly
st
Parent Information Evening to be held at St Agnes Primary School on Tuesday 21 October that will cover aspects of
cyber safety to develop your own knowledge on ways to protect and support your child when using IT at home.
