Introducing
Community Courses
Wandsworth Lifelong Learning works with a wide range of partners to provide community
development learning opportunities at venues across the borough. These include Family
Learning courses for adults and their children and wider community development courses
for adults only.

What is
Family
Learning?
Wandsworth Council currently delivers Family
Learning courses in a wide range of venues
including libraries, community and voluntary
organisations. In addition to this we are working
with over 30 primary and secondary schools, as
well as South Thames College.
Adults must accompany children on all
Family Learning courses, unless stated.
There are to be a maximum of 2 children per
adult. Please check with each course for more
information. Please also check the programme
for age ranges.
Family Learning Programmes support fun
learning activities and are available for parents,
grandparents, carers and can involve other
family members. Courses aim to give
parents/carers confidence in being involved in
their children’s education.
Please note: In workshops, priority will be
given to new learners. Please arrive on time.
If you are over half an hour late to a fee-paying
venue we will not be able to organise your free
entry after this time.
People of all ages discover new interests,
aptitudes and abilities. So why not take some
time out from your normal family routine and try
something that your child will be talking about
for weeks!
Family English and Maths courses provide
opportunities for adults to provide support and
find out how children are being taught at
school. Recent research has shown the impact
that learning as a family has on children’s
development and their readiness for school.
Family Learning courses are FREE and include
all materials, except where stated.
If you have any queries or ideas for further
Family Learning courses please contact:

This summer saw the launch of the
Aspirations Programme in Battersea filled with
lots of free, fun courses and activities for the
whole family. Upcoming courses include:
Change Champion
Wandsworth Council’s Public Health team are
offering a free two-day course on how you
can make simple changes to live a healthier
lifestyle. You will also gain the skills and
knowledge on how to support others to make
changes to improve their health and
wellbeing. The course kicks off with an online
introduction to healthy living followed by the
Royal Society for Public Health’s Level 2
Award in Understanding Health Improvement.
Mental Health First Aid
The Mental Health First Aid course teaches
you how to identify, understand and help a
person who may be developing a mental
health problem. In the same way as we learn
physical first aid, mental health first aid
provides you with the knowledge of how to
recognise those crucial warning signs and
provide early help that is vital in the recovery
of mental illness. The course is open to
everyone.
On completion of the course, you will have
the opportunity to join an aromatherapy or
