Hayden Secondary School has state-of-the-art facilities, which will allow us to offer a wide range of workshops in a creative and collaborative learning environment. Many of the workshops will be applicable to all subject areas under the Business Studies umbrella. We have compiled a roster of talented workshop leaders from various boards and business organizations who will provide a wealth of classroom-ready resources. Integrating computers in the classroom continues to be an essential component of the Business Studies curriculum. We continue to offer hands-on workshops featuring differentiated instruction, Web 2.0 tools, SMART Boards, and smartphone/tablet apps. This year, our CorporateSponsors, Vendors and Educational Partners have generously donated many exciting prizes, which will be drawn for during the conference lunch break. Links to curriculum, sample instruction handouts, and sample portfolios created by students will be discussed and accessible electronically. A3 Adobe Photoshop - Get Started (Part 1 of Hands-on Double Session) Aaron Casella, Thames Valley DSB Learn the basic fundamentals of Adobe Photoshop. This double session will teach you to create and design projects, as well as manipulate images and photos. In the end you will be able to produce effective graphic designs for various projects related to business courses. A4 Intuit Education Program: Cloud Accounting QuickBooks Online (Hands-on) Naaz Fatima Butt, Intuit Welcome to the Intuit Education Program. Complimentary cloud-based accounting software QuickBooks Online will be given to educators and students for academic use. This workshop will provide participants with a hands-on session. A5 BTT Cross-Curricular Summative (Hands-on) Ruth Bretholz, Toronto DSB This workshop is designed for teachers to share best practices and cross- curricular initiatives. By combining BTT skills and other subject specific content, you can aid your students during their stressful summative period. We will demonstrate a combined Gr 9/10 summative activity created with Geography, History and BTT content. A6 Tech Tool Smackdown! Kari Peters, Toronto DSB This session will explore Web 2.0 tools Smackdown style! A variety of tools that will engage students through tech integration will be presented in 3 minute chunks with time to explore each. Come and play and “tech” up your business classroom! A7 Building Community through Experiential Games (Hands-on) William Schoenhardt, York Region DSB Bill may be the only business teacher in the province who also teaches outdoor experiential education! Drawing on this experience, Bill will demonstrate experiential games used to build community in any classroom; and activities used to debrief many business class scenarios. Come and have some fun. B2 Blogging for an Authentic Audience (Hands-on) Mary Jane Page, Halton DSB In this digital age students, in order to be relevant, need to have an online presence to showcase their best work and their digital profile. Blogging can transform the culture of learning in your classroom. Participants will begin using Google Blogger with hands-on activities, sample blogs, and rubrics. You can create engaging videos in place of traditional Powerpoint presentations and export them with the click of a button to YouTube. Create the ergonomic office for BTT, design your product prototype for Marketing or have students build a retail store for BOG. The possibilities are endless. D1 Using Animation for Project-Based Learnng and Teaching, (Hands-on) Mitch Lapointe, DSB of Niagara Having used various forms of web-based software to demonstrate learning, animation has quickly become my favourite. Animation is a great way to get students to engage in higher level thinking. Come and see how animation can be easily used in your classroom.
