Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
A couple of weeks ago we had the announcement of
Holy Trinity Catholic School. The school is formed
by the consolidation of the three schools: St. Mary's
preschool, Precious Blood School, and Holy Family
School.
At the event, I expressed continued information would
be provided to all interested parties. On Wednesday,
October 15, we will have the next public meeting.
It will be held at St. Joseph's Kundek Hall at 6:30 p.m.

8th Annual Massive Chili Fire sponsored by the Vocation Office
of the Diocese of Evansville. It will be held at St. John Daylight
(5301 Daylight Drive in Evansville). This is a gathering for young
adults (ages 17-35) to get together for Mass, some Chili and a
Fire. You will gather at 4:30 p.m. (CDT), with Mass at 5:00 and the
food and fun will follow.

You are invited to pray the “Chaplet of Divine Mercy” in Church
at 10:05 a.m. Like the Rosary, this is a repetitive prayer.
Tue., Oct. 21 - Men’s Club Meeting - 7 p.m.
The meeting will take place in the school basement. Come, be
a part … and bring a friend! Short meeting followed by cards,
refreshments, and fellowship. All parish men 18 years of

1) German Food - To Support the JHS German Exchange Program.
10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Schnitzelbank Restaurant (drive-thru only).
Menu: Fried chicken, or Braetzel, or pulled pork BBQ, with German
fries, baked beans, slaw, and dessert for $10/meal. Meals can be
purchased at the Schnitzelbank.
2) St. Anthony Parish Fall Picnic - St. Anthony Church grounds.
10 a.m. - 3 p.m., grilled chicken & smoked port loin dinners, Theme
baskets, Country Store, grand raffle, and quilt raffle.
3) Pilgrimage to Monte Cassino Shrine - 2 p.m. (CDT)
Sermon by Fr. Sean Hoppe, OSB, “Mary, Mother of Life”. The
Monte Cassino Shrine is located one mile east of the Archabbey.
Every Wednesday the Bosco House is open after school until
5 p.m. for dropping in (high school). Our youth ministry adoration
hour is also Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m. at the Precious Blood chapel.
Come join us for an hour of quiet prayer.
Bible Storying at the Bosco House after Religious Education
from 8:30-9:30 p.m. each week (high school). Come check out this
imaginative way of reflecting on Scripture.
This Friday, Oct. 17, is our annual Bonfire at St. Mary in Ireland
from 7-9 p.m. All middle and high school students are invited for
food, s'mores, pumpkins, and night games.
There will be a call-out meeting for anyone interested in more
information on the diocesan Pilgrimage For Life trip to Washington
D.C. January 21-24. The meeting will be Tue., Oct. 21, at 6 p.m. in
Kundek Hall in the St. Joe Parish Center. The trip is open to all in
high school and older. If you can't make the meeting and are interested, contact Carley for trip information.
We are headed to God's Country in Perry County on Sun., Oct.
26, for an All Saints' Day Party on their beautiful grounds. We will
meet at the Bosco House at 1 p.m. and return by 7 p.m. Please RSVP

2) St. Isidore Catholic Church Shooting Match
Bristow. Ham & turkey shoot begins at 11:00 a.m. (CDT). Lunch
served beginning at 10:30 a.m. Country store, Bingo, splatter boards,
cake stand, children’s games, and grand raffle.
Sacred Relics of The Saints: Treasures Of The Church
St. Joseph Parish presents a teaching and exposition of Sacred Relics on
Sun., Oct. 19 at 1:00 p.m. Father Carlos Martins of the Companions of
the Cross will be there with his very special ministry to teach about these
holy objects. He will bring with him over 150 relics, some as old as
2000 years. Among the treasures will be relics of St. Maria Goretti, St.
Therese of Lisieux (the “Little Flower"), St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Faustina Kowalska. In
addition, there will also be present a portion of the veil of Our Lady, as
well as one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the
world. Those in attendance will be able to examine and venerate each
relic. In the Church’s history many miracles and healings have been
worked in the presence of relics, and many have been healed through this
ministry. Please do not miss this opportunity. You are encouraged to
bring your articles of devotion (such as rosaries, holy cards, etc.) and
pictures of ill friends/family members which you will be able to touch to
the reliquaries as a means of intercession.

The RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF
ADULTS (RCIA) is the Church’s way of helping
those who are considering joining the Catholic Church
to grow in faith, while at the same time instructing
them with regard to the beliefs of the Catholic Church.
Who is RCIA for?
RCIA is for those who have never been baptized,
those who have been baptized in another Christian
tradition and those adult Catholics who would like to
complete the sacraments of initiation (Eucharist and
Confirmation). Through prayer and study of the faith,
those who participate in RCIA deepen their relationship with Christ and become integrated with the faith
community of Precious Blood.
The RCIA process is a time of exploration, where people can ask questions and learn about the Church. People coming from different Christian tradition may
have many specific questions about the Catholic Faith
and practice, and this is a place where they can feel
free to ask them. Those who come with little religious
background will feel that they have even more to
learn. All participants will find the opportunity to
question, to think for themselves, and to take all the
time they need to make a decision about joining the
Church.

The RCIA process should not be considered a “class”.
We want you to discover God on a personal level.
There are not tests and no grades. At each session, a
member of the RCIA team will present a topic for
general discussion by the candidates, sponsors, and
team members. The goal is conversion through a
change of heart and a deepening of your relationship
with Christ.

TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Columbus Day - Monday, October 13, 2014
Columbus Day is a federal holiday celebrated on the second Monday in October each year. It is generally accepted that
Christopher Columbus was the first European to have discovered the New World of the Americas.
1992 marked the 500th anniversary of the Columbus discovery. Across the United States people celebrate the day
Columbus landed in America because it changed the course of history.
It is interesting that Americans might not have a Columbus Day if Christopher Columbus had not been born in Italy.
Out of pride for their native son, the Italian population of New York City organized the first celebration of the discovery
of America on October 12, 1866.
The following year, more Italian organizations in a increased number of cities held banquets, parades, and dances on that
date.
In 1869, when the Italians of San Francisco celebrated October 12, they called it Columbus Day.
In 1905, Colorado became the first state to observe a Columbus Day. Over the next twenty years other states followed. In
1937, President Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed every October 12 as Columbus Day. Since 1971, Columbus Day has been
celebrated on the second Monday in October.
