Together In Action 2014 -As Bishop Henry said: “Faith
working through love” (Gal.5:6) becomes a new criterion of
understanding and action that changes the whole of our lives.
“So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything
old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” (2
Cor.5:17).Through faith we recognize the face of the risen
Lord in those who ask for our love. “As you did it to the least
of my brethren, you did it to me” (Mt.25:40). These words are
both a warning and a perennial invitation to return the love by
which he takes care of us. It is faith that enables us to
recognize Christ and it is his love that impels us to assist him
whenever he becomes our neighbour along the journey of life.
Supported by faith, let us look, with hope at our commitments
as we await a new heavens and a new earth. Please be
generous to your TIA contribution. Our goal this year is
$22,128.05. Collection to date is $16,242.34. As you can see
we are still short in our target for this year. We thank those of
you who have donated and we ask those who have not yet
contributed to please consider doing so. It is imperative that
we address this Together in Action shortfall. Your continued
support and generosity will help us reach our target again this
year. Surplus funds will be used for Capital Projects. Thank
you in advance.
Prayer Chain –What is a gift you can give or receive that
you do not have to pay membership, user fees or taxes? “The
Gift of Giving Prayers” The Prayer Chain is very strong here
at Canadian Martyrs Parish and we are not afraid to ask God
or our favorite saints to help intervene with our requests or
thanksgiving. Praying for others also showers benefits on the
one who pray. If you are interested to be a Prayer Chain
Apostolate, please call Nadean Meyer at 403-282-1654, or the
office at 403-284-3311. Thank you & God Bless.

of our youngest parishioners. The materials will be used in

EXPOSITION of the BLESSED SACRAMENT to atone for
abortions. St. John's Convent, 409-10A Street N.W. begins
on Sunday Oct. 19 at 3:00 pm and concludes Monday Oct. 20
with MASS at 5:00 pm. Come and stay as long as you can.
A Thanksgiving Attitude- Thanksgiving is the most
important attitude we can have toward God. We call Jesus gift
of himself to us the Eucharist, which means thanksgiving, or
perhaps a better term, thanks-living. Each day let us
remember the gifts we are given by our heavenly Father,
through the sacrifice of our brother Jesus and the comforting
ministry of His Holy Spirit.

Mt 22:1-14
Fashion check
Ever notice how some parables make you feel good
about yourself? Like the parable of the king’s wedding
feast. We read it and say, “Well, of course, I would never
kill the king’s messengers. I’ve got my invitation. I’m
going to God’s little party.” Righteous pride creeps in as
we stroke our wedding garments and say, “tsk tsk” to the
evil guests.
Better check those garments again. Remember the guests
who heard the invitation and then went right back to their
own work? As believers, once we’re part of the fold, it’s
easy to fall into the “oh yeah” category. When God’s gifts
and mercies are discussed, we stifle a yawn and say, “yeah
I know,” and go right about our business. The joyous gift
of Christ’s presence at Mass becomes humdrum, ordinary,
even boring. We heard the invitation, but it’s ceased to
hold our attention. Today’s parable calls us to dust off the
garments of boredom and truly celebrate the honor of
being called to wear our finest at the Lamb’s wedding
feast. What are you wearing today?

The Editor’s Assistant- Reading beneath the surface
On the surface the king in the gospel was not a very nice
person. After all, he put someone out of his party after begging
him to come, all because he did not like what the man was
wearing. But as is so often the case with stories from the gospel,
the message lies deeper than the surface. The fact is that God
offers us what we need to wear to be a part of the divine
kingdom but it is up to us whether we will wear it or not. There
are many ways to reject the invitation of our God. In fact, some
of those ways have become rather common to a culture that is
addicted to ways that are anything but God's ways. We are
invited beyond those addictions. What is our R.S.V.P.?

Simple prayer of thanks - We thank you God for the equations of life—joy and pain, work and play, sun and
rain, victory and defeat—that having one portion we may understand the other also. Amen
