Can You Volunteer to Help with Gala?
Our annual Gala is Nov. 15 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at EventzPlus in
Castleton. This is our largest fundraiser and requires MANY volunteers
to be a success. We need your help! Will you please dedicate a minimum of 1 hour of your time? There are many options available the day
prior and during the event to help. Signing up to volunteer is very
quick and easy. Just go to http://vols.pt/soCcgm. Thanks for making a
difference to bring success to the 2014 Gala! For questions, please
contact Carey Dilts, [email protected].
Confirmation Meeting Reminder. The Saint Matthew Confirmation
Program is offered for any high school student, sophomore year or older, who has not received the sacrament of Confirmation. A teen/parent
meeting will be held on Oct. 12 from 12:45 to 2:45 p.m. in the Community Room. If you are unable to attend on Oct. 12 and wish to participate
in this program, schedule a meeting by calling 257-4297, ext. 2210.
Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Question of the Week
Question for Children: Why is it important for you to do what
Jesus asks of you?
Question for Youth: Each week we are invited to participate
in Mass. When you are at Mass, how well do you really participate? How could you be more present in heart, mind, and
spirit?
Question for Adults: Using Jesus’ parable as your starting
point, describe in your own words who will be welcome and
why they will be welcome at the eternal banquet of God.
Generous Hearts Thought
God will fully supply whatever you
need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
Next Meeting of
“Tuesdays for
20s & 30s”
Our next “Tuesdays for
20s and 30s” will be Oct.
14 at Saint Matthew. Discussions on the Joy of the Gospel
at 7:30 p.m. Taize Prayer around the campfire at 8:15 p.m.
Please join us! Contact [email protected].
Respect Life Rosaries for October
During the month of October, there will be a rosary following 9
a.m. Sunday Mass at 10:15 a.m. in the Chapel at Saint Matthew.
Oct. 12—Rosary for the Elderly
Oct. 19—Rosary for the Unborn
Oct. 26—Rosary for Those on Death Row
Please join us in prayer for a greater respect for life.
Can You Be a Mass Coordinator?
Similar to preparing for a special family gathering, an important
part of every Sunday liturgy is assembling and coordinating all the
items necessary for “setting the table” before Mass with care.
Mass coordinators prepare the wine and communion hosts and set
the credence table. They assist the presider and the assembly
“behind the scenes” on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings
before each Mass to assure that all items needed for the day’s liturgy are in place and that the appropriate ministers are present,
know their roles, and are ready to serve. The Mass coordinator
makes sure everything required for the celebration of special rites
or rituals during Mass is in place before Mass begins. This minister
is available to the presider to attend to any special details or lastminute preparations. Typically a minister serves during one or two
liturgies per month. If you would like to volunteer or learn more,
please call Ann Tully, 475-0284, or Aaron Haag, 257-4297, x 2209.
There is no pastor’s column this weekend because Fr. Nick
has been on retreat. Welcome back, Fr. Nick!
United Catholic Appeal Kicks Off
at Saint Matthew
Today we kick off our annual United Catholic Appeal campaign.
The campaign will run for the next three weeks and culminate
on Intention Sunday, Nov. 2, when we will be asked to return
our pledge cards. As a reminder, the United Catholic Appeal is
now a separate campaign from our parish stewardship renewal,
which will be held next spring. The case for giving to the United
Catholic Appeal is simple: our dollars support countless outreach efforts by the larger church, the archdiocese, that are not
possible at the parish level alone. The UCA goal for our parish
this year is once again $95,000. Next weekend we will hear a
powerful witness talk that you won’t want to miss, which will
provide us with a wonderful example of the larger church at
work. All parish households will receive one mailing prior to Intention Weekend. This mailing will include an educational brochure, a letter from Archbishop Tobin, and an intention card. We
ask everyone to everyone to pray for the success of this year’s
appeal and to prayerfully consider what you will able to pledge.
Thank you for practicing stewardship as a way of life at Saint
Matthew.
This Week’s United Catholic Appeal Message
There are certain Bible verses Christian stewards have memorized.
One of them is in Saint Paul’s letter to the Philippians found in
today’s second reading: “I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me” (4:13). Most people define themselves either by
their problems or their possibilities. Fearful people wake up each
morning ensnared by their problems. Christian stewards wake up
reflecting on their possibilities with confidence and hope. What
challenges do you back away from because you doubt that you are
up to them? What would you attempt tomorrow if you were sure
God would help you? International Catholic Stewardship Council,
www.catholicstewardship.com
Saturday Communion Services Discontinued
Due to very low attendance, we will no longer have an 8:30 a.m.
Saturday morning communion service. There is an 8:30 a.m. Saturday Mass at Christ the King.
World Mission Sunday Next Weekend
Next weekend our parish will celebrate World Mission Sunday.
This year we are invited to help build the Church in Mongolia, the
world’s youngest Catholic Church, as well as local churches
throughout the Missions, in the most remote areas across our
world. Through the work of these churches and their witness to
Christ, the poor receive practical help and experience God’s love,
mercy, hope, and peace. Please keep the Missions in your prayers.
Please come prepared next weekend to give generously in the
collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
