Chairman’s Message
The biggest deficit of training and learnings in transport and logistics is in the
Supervisor to CEO band of management.
The last two decades have seen considerable growth of courses, mostly for
certificate 1,2 and 3 and much government subsidised, for operators of machinery
and in basic OH&S.
While courses in supply chain and transport management have become more
sophisticated and now offered more broadly, the take up has been small against the
fast growing demands in operational, strategic and specific management.
The era of 'learn on the job' management, which grew the sector hugely in the last 60 years, is passing it's used by
date.
Many managers now in the supply chain came into the sector sideways, and need specific skill introductions.
Many face challenges in understanding and getting the best out if the influx of new operating technologies and
management techniques.
CILT Australia has renewed its heritage in professional development to meet these needs.
Back 90 years ago, the origins of CILT were in former soldiers who saw the transport innovations in the Great War,
from trucks and planes to oil burning ships and transport planning. As they moved to 'civvy street' they used the
Chartered Institute to share ideas.
Our 21st Century challenge is just as great, perhaps more in the planning and execution of technologies, perhaps
more in management systems and information technologies than just the machines that move and lift freight and
people.
CILT Australia is working with industry and our educational institutions to examine the needs and gaps in these
learning challenges.
We recognise that many transport professionals have busy lives and getting started in professional development can
be a difficult step.
As a result CILT has helped develop a suite of short courses as PD starters or immediate knowledge fillers as a step to
further learnings through diploma, degree and masters courses.
The advantage only CILT can offer is that these courses are within our efficacious PD accreditation system.
And they are recognised as part of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system that will shortly be
updated through our member log in system on the CILTA website.
So courses appropriate to your everyday work needs and recognised through CILTA.
This Directory is the first edition to promote the courses to management and operators in transport and logistics.
As an online directory it will be updated regularly as more courses are added. Your suggestions of learning needs
that need to be met are welcomed.

PD Directory Overview
This PD Directory has been designed as a guide for Transport and Logistics professionals who have a desire for
continuous self-improvement or require essential knowledge and skills to perform their role.
All courses contained in this directory have been audited against the 20 CILT Key Knowledge Areas and have met
approval by the CILT Australia Professional Development Committee for Accreditation, Certification and Recognition.
CILTA sets and maintains standards for delivery of professional development programs and seminars through
Accreditation of Institutions to deliver programs developed by CILT International, Certification of programs that
meet the academic requirements for Chartered Membership status and Recognition of short courses and seminars
through the provision of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.
Once a course is accredited, certified or recognised, potential and current CILTA members can be assured that after
completing the course they can have certainty of the quality and relevance of the programs to their workplaces and
their careers.
For education and training providers, the accreditation, certification or recognition process provides certainty that
the courses they offer are of sufficient standard to be acknowledged by the oldest and largest professional logistics
and transport association covering freight logistics, supply chain management and passenger transport in Australia.

Supply Chain covers the entire range of freight and logistics, with specialist Forums, including
construction, defence, and operations management.
Transport Planning includes central government, the local authority and other transport planning
specialisms. This Professional Sector covers freight and passenger transport planning, travel

Rail; covers passenger and freight topics, as well as looking at strategic issues, travel planning,

Course Outline:
This course prepares students for a professional career in operations, logistics and supply chain management
to meet the challenges of a rapidly globalising industry. Through a mix of teaching and learning methods,
students will develop skills and acquire knowledge to deal with the interdependence of contemporary global
and regional supply chain and logistics issues, and be able to apply them to manage operations problems in a
global marketplace. The learning activities students will experience over the duration of the course may
include problem-based analysis, hands-on interactive learning and project planning, in addition to face-toface lectures, tutorials and seminars. The assessment used in the course may take a variety of forms,
including formal examination, class-room quizzes, syndicated assignments, individual investigative projects,
and case analysis. These activities are designed to prepare students to be work-ready and to train them to
become independent and lifelong learners.
Students will also have the opportunity to directly apply these skills to a real work environment through a
work-integrated learning scheme in Year 3 when they are attached to a company for a specific period to
participate in the planning, organizing and management of logistics and supply chain operations.

Professional Development Programs
(PDPs)
CILT Australia’s education base is comprised of two product streams: the traditional products such as
Certificates, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas, Graduate Certificates, Associate Degrees, Masters Programs etc
and the second education stream which consists of events and short programs designed to deliver
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.
CILT Australia Professional Development Programs (PDPs) will comprise of a set of themed modules from
Short Course (SCs) offerings and certified courses which reflect a particular knowledge field.
PDP’s will be create from recognised modules, PDPs are:

Project YIELD
YOUTH INDIGENOUS EDUCATION IN LOGISTICS DISCIPLINES
The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport – Western Australia Section (CILTA WA) has proudly launched an
initiative specifically focussed on indigenous students in Year 11 and 12 throughout Western Australia.
This unique and special programme is aimed at preparing indigenous students for entry into the workforce into
the many facets of transport and logistics throughout the state.
The programme is owned and managed by CILTA WA facilitating education providers, schools and government
and industry for eventual placement of successful students into the workforce.
Our indigenous advisers are actively involved in the programme through cultural awareness guidelines and
recommendations for supporting the students through their development.
THE PROGRAM
The Program works via Project YIELD sourcing funding via government and industry channels, with approved
education providers delivering school-based Cert II, III and IV training of Transport & Logistics, and Warehousing
courses.
THE SCHOOLS
Schools can participate by contacting Project YIELD and advising of their VET programmes which are selfdelivered. Project YIELD will collect data from relevant schools detailing the course details plus numbers of
indigenous students in their programmes. Alternatively, schools can request information from Project YIELD to
provide details of approved education providers who can provide school-based delivery of transport and logistics
and warehousing courses.
THE STUDENTS
Students are the most important part of project YIELD. Students are identified and directed into the programmes
by the schools. Students from Year 11 and 12 are included in the programme. Schools may determine if Year 10
students should participate in awareness programmes designed to stimulate their interest to participate in Year
11.
THE EDUCATION PROVIDERS
Project YIELD aims to identify education providers within relevant state regions to provide education within their
relevant regions. This will see Perth and regional education providers focussed on their own regions.
FOLLOW-ON SUPPORT
This is an important aspect of Project YIELD. We will aim to facilitate mentors from within the CILTA (WA), general
industry, government agencies and our indigenous advisors. This mentoring will commence during the school
education stage and continue into the employment stage.
AT THE COMPLETION OF SCHOOLING
Indigenous students are armed with Cert III or IV in Transport & Logistics or Warehousing, and are facilitated
through the goals of Project YIELD to obtain employment with metropolitan Perth and regional WA companies.
GENDER AND REGIONS
Project YIELD has an equal gender uptake criteria, as well as equal metropolitan and regional uptake of
indigenous students.

THE INDUSTRY
The transport and logistics industry is a significant employer throughout Western Australia. Its services are
extremely important to the revenue of the government and companies working in this resource-rich state. Project
YIELD aims to support the states transport and logistics task by providing avenues for indigenous youth to enter a
career in transport and logistics in any industry sector including mining, retail, oil and gas, air/sea/rail logistics
service providers, food industry, sports, tourism and entertainment industries. Whilst mining and oil & gas are the
primary users of transport and logistics services in Western Australia, the education gained via Project YIELD is
adaptable to all industries.
FUNDING
Funding will be sourced via requests to government and industry partners, with funds received being allocated to
the cost of providing the education. If external education providers are required, the funding will support the
delivery of education programmes.

WORLD NEWSPAPERS TODAY
World Newspapers Today, is an extensive but easily searchable database which provides members with access to
over 2,200 newspapers and magazines from more than 97 countries in 54 languages. Access is in the form of the
full text of each newspaper, complete with a page-turning facility. Individual articles can be printed or emailed to
colleagues. As well as today’s news there is an archive that contains the newspaper content for the last 90 days,
allowing for retrospective searching.

Areas (KKA’s) for major programs and Recognition assessment for short programs.

accredited and non- accredited short courses.
