Holy Communion
If you are visiting us and normally receive
Communion in your own church you are
welcome to join us at Communion here. If
you prefer to receive non-alcoholic wine
and/or gluten-free wafers, they are
available in the side chapel – please
indicate to the person administering
Communion.
Offering
An offering is taken up during evening
services. Alternatively, please place your
offering in one of the receptacles by the
doors. Gift Aid declaration forms and
envelopes are nearby - please do use
either of these if you are a UK tax-payer;
this will enable us to claim an additional
25% on top of what you give.
Valuables
Please keep your handbag, keys, wallet,
etc with you at all times.

Getting organised for growth
Acts 6:1 In those days the number of disciples
was increasing...
Today we have another St Giles newcomers’ lunch and
it’s an ongoing indication that our church is growing. As
church grows and ministries develop so the task of
organising and overseeing that ministry becomes more
demanding and more complex. For this reason, the staff and
PCC have been considering new ways of better supporting
our mission and ministry activities.
Acts 6:3,4 Choose seven men from among you who are
known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this
responsibility over to them… and we will give our attention
to prayer and the ministry of the word.
We’re pleased to have both men and women leading
ministries here at St Giles! This verse reminds us that
whether our ministry is ‘up front’ or ‘behind the scenes’, we
need God’s power and his guidance. It’s also a recognition
that God calls different people to different roles. Next
Sunday, I will be sharing details of the new Ministry
Leadership Team and how it will enhance and enable
ministry across the church.
Acts 6:7 So the word of God spread and the number of
disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly.
The PCC believe the new leadership structures will help
St Giles to grow and to fulfil the core purpose we agreed last
year:

Newcomers’ lunch today
I will be holding a cake and sweet sale in
church after the morning service on 9th Nov.
It is to raise money for my World Challenge
expedition to Ecuador and the Galapagos
islands next year, so all of your generous

Barnabas Fund supporters’ day
Sat 1st Nov 2-5pm in church: ‘Living in
Babylon - faithful to Christ in a hostile
world’. We are honoured to host this event
which we trust you will support. Speakers
include Patrick Sookhdeo, International
Director & renowned international speaker/

Red box appeal for Iraq
Thank you and bless you all—we have
raised £2,300 in aid of our brothers and
sisters in Christ in Iraq. This amount is
divided equally to Barnabas Fund and the
Foundation for Relief & Reconciliation in
the Middle East (FRRME - Canon Andrew
White). Give glory and praise to God for
His grace and provision!
World of Difference Fair
The WofD Fair will be back again this year
with a number of new Christian charities
working in the developing world along
with some previous stallholders. Please
note the date Saturday 15th Nov, 11am to
4pm for buying your Christmas cards and
gifts. Details to follow from Judith Cooper.
Shoebox gifts for Eastern Europe
Please think about filling a shoebox for a
people living in deprived areas of Eastern
Europe. Link to Hope have launched ‘Fill a
Shoebox for £10’ which gives you ideas of
all the best deals around. Look at

the poster near information desk. Leaflets
from information desk. You can choose to
do a family or elderly person. The items
printed in green on the list can go in both
boxes and then you add things suitable for a
family or elderly person as indicated. Please
return your filled box, with a list attached to
the box and £2 to cover transporting it. You
could get together with a friend/neighbour
and do a box between you to share the cost.

people at Street Church. There was oodles
of food so many thanks to St Giles for
their generosity and to the team who
prepared, served food & drink and washed
copious dishes. Please note that St Giles is
