This Wednesday, the Supreme Court of Canada will hear
an appeal by the BC Civil Liberties Assoc. that will grant
terminally ill patients the right to assisted suicide.
Federal Justice Minister Peter MacKay's office has stated
that presently Criminal Code provisions that prohibit assisted suicide and euthanasia "are in place to protect all
persons, including those most vulnerable in our society."
Please come out and pray that the present provisions remain in place. Pray, as well, for a greater respect for human life from conception till natural death.

The Knights of Columbus extend an invitation to all for
this special Marian Hour of Prayer in the presence of
the Icon of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
This fall the icon is traveling from council to council within
the province.
Sunday October 19 World Mission Day: There will be
a special collection next Sunday. Pope Francis writes:
“Today vast numbers of people still do not know Jesus
Christ. For this reason, the mission ad gentes continues to
be most urgent. All the members of the Church are called
to participate in this mission, for the Church is missionary
by her very nature: she was born “to go forth”. World
Mission Day is a privileged moment when the faithful of
various continents engage in prayer and concrete gestures
of solidarity in support of the young Churches in mission
lands. It is a celebration of grace and joy. A celebration of
grace, because the Holy Spirit, sent by the Father, offers
wisdom and strength to those who are obedient to his action. A celebration of joy, because Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, sent to evangelize the world, supports and accompanies our missionary efforts… A monetary contribution on the part of individuals is the sign of a self-offering,
first to the Lord and then to others; in this
way a material offering can become a means
for the evangelization of humanity built on
love.”

CAFÉ FRANK - BEGINS NOVEMBER!
will kick off on November 9th. CAFÉ FRANK is
your chance to meet and to talk with others
who share the journey that and will take place in
the St. Francis of Assisi parish centre on Sundays
after 9am Mass while children’s catechesis is running (except Friendship Sundays). Each session
will involve small groups delving deeper into the
Sunday readings and sharing their own thoughts
and insights with each other in a café-style setting. No registration is required: simply show up
when you can and make stronger friendships

NEXT WEDNESDAY GROUP - Formerly known as "The Tuesday Group", the next gathering will be Wednesday 15th October after
6.30pm Mass at St. Francis's. The Wednesday
Group is an open small group where those attending will explore the upcoming Sunday Mass
readings and share their thoughts, insights and
experiences with each other. Strong, faith centred friendships and deepened faith have already
happened through this very fruitful parish group.
Most meetings usually begin with music led by
Andy Webster, Margaret Burton or Dave Hasler
and may also include discussing and implementing
ideas that benefit the pastoral life of the parish.
