The 10 projects awarded to Hilmarc’s Construction Corp. cost the taxpayers of Makati at least P15 billion, said Mercado, a witness in a Senate blue ribbon subcommittee investigation of alleged irregularities in the Makati government during the term of Vice President Jejomar Binay as city mayor. “Twenty-eight percent from every project was shared by the mayor down to the lowest official in the web involved in the conspiracy,” Mercado told the Inquirer in an interview in his office in Makati. Mercado said 13 percent of the 28-percent kickback went to Binay while he was mayor of Makati. The remaining 15 percent went to others-the vice mayor, 16 members of the city council, the city council secretary, members of the the bids and awards committee (BAC), the city engineer, members of the technical working group (TWG), department heads, two sectoral representatives (a barangay chair and the Sangguninang Kabataan chair) and resident Commission on Audit (COA) auditors. —Inquirer.net MANILA: Shin Young-soo, right, regional director of World Health Organization (WHO) for western pacific gestures as he speaks during a press conference with Philippine health secretary Enrique Ona in Manila on October 10, 2014. The Philippines is considering deploying substantial number of health workers to West Africa amid a global appeal to deal with the Ebola virus, Health Secretary Enrique Ona said October 10. “I think it is also something of a responsibility for our country... to respond to that global call for assistance,” sabi ni Ona sa joint news conference ng World Health Organization Western Pacific director Shin Young-soo na ginanap sa Manila kamakailan. “We (Philippine officials) are meeting on this issue and should be able to make a firm decision... maybe in a week or so.” “The human resources that may be needed (may) not necessarily be working only in the Ebola-affected facilities,” dagdag ni Ona. “(There) may also be workers needed, for example, in public health, or taking care of hospitals where the usual non-Ebola patients go.” Floyd Mayweather Sr. told Fighthype.com on Wednesday (Thursday Manila time) that his son might have Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao as his 49th opponent in the pro ranks. “Man, I’m pretty sure that if nothing else happen, he’s gonna get Pacquiao...it’s gonna happen. That fight’s gonna happen. Trust me,” Mayweather, Sr. told Fighthype.com’s Ben Thompson. “You mark my words and we’ll see. And it needs to happen. Just like Ali and Joe Frazier, or Ali and George Foreman, something like that, man, it’s one of those fights like that,” he added. With two fights left in his Showtime contract, Floyd Jr. has yet to announce his next opponent after disposing Marcos Maidana for the second time. Mayweather, Jr, who currently holds a 470-record with 26 knockouts is expected to fight in May 2015. His father believes all signs are pointing to a Pacquiao fight after that provided that the eight-division world champion takes care of his business. The rumored mega fight was all the more fanned by the news of Top rank and Showtime in negotiation to stage pay-perview fights together. Pacquiao, who is under Bob Arum’s Top rank promotions, is set to fight American challenger Chris Algieri on Nov. 22 in Macau. If he wins, Pacquiao might finally end up taking a megabuck bout against the unbeaten Mayweather, Jr. “Well, it might be number 49. Floyd’s gonna kick his little ass,” added the elder Mayweather, who maintained that his son would pick Pacquiao apart. The outspoken trainer thinks Pacquiao does not stand a chance to give his son his first loss. “He’s tailor-made to eat the right hand all day long. You gotta remember, Pacquiao is a southpaw. He’s a southpaw and Floyd is right-handed, so he’ll eat right hands and left hooks all night, and more than likely, he will be going to sleep again. Believe me,” Floyd Mayweather Sr. is confident that the much-awaited fight between his son Mayweather, Sr. said. —The Philippine Star and Manny Pacquiao will happen.
