Pope urges governments,
businesses to end slavery
VATICAN: Pope Francis urged governments and legislatures on
Wednesday to do more to end modern-day slavery, calling for better laws and policies to prevent human trafficking, protect its victims and prosecute those responsible.
Francis also urged businesses to ensure their distribution chains
are free of slave labor and asked consumers to think twice about
buying goods that may have been produced by child workers or
other victims of undignified working conditions.
Francis’ annual peace message, released Wednesday, focused
on drawing attention to the estimated 35 million people enslaved
around the world and efforts to free them.—AP

Ayon kay Charge d’ Affairs Atty Raul
Dado sa panayam ng Pinoy Arabia

ang employer ni Lourdes Abejuela.

lamang talaga ang nangyari, subalit
may-kapabayaan o pagkukulang
umano sa panig ng may-ari. ‘Una,
apparently ayon sa batas ng Kuwait
and I think this is according to international law, hindi puede talagang
mag-alaga ng wild animals sa loob ng
bahay,’ ani Dado.

PH orders crackdown
on privileged jailbirds
MANILA: Philippine authorities have given privileged inmates in the country’s main prison until
Christmas Eve to turn over their hidden guns,
drugs and other contraband or the notorious
facility will face a major shakedown.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima issued the
ultimatum after two surprise searches of the
Bilibid prison this week uncovered a horde of
prohibited items including firearms, drugs,
stashes of US dollars — and even a jacuzzi and a
stripper bar. Revelations that drug lords have
been “living like kings” in luxury cells have
shocked the Philippines, a nation used to tales
of official corruption.
“Before Christmas, they should produce the
contraband because we believe there are still
illegal drugs and items kept hidden,” de Lima
said after leading the second search on Friday.
“I told them to produce that, otherwise I will
really... turn the facility upside down,” she told
reporters. Flanked by heavily-armed troops, de
Lima led the searches of the luxurious special
apartments of convicted drug lords in a sprawling suburban Manila complex built for 8,900
inmates but currently housing 23,000.
“I am disgusted, even beyond disgusted,” she
said after the raids, which uncovered secret
panels leading to hidden rooms.
Three officials connected with Bilibid were
relieved of their posts in preparation for an
investigation over the apparent complicity of
jail officials in allowing the items to be smuggled in, she said.
Philippine President Benigno Aquino has
ordered de Lima to reform the prison system,
which has long been known for corruption with
wealthy inmates enjoying special privileges.
“You can’t be in prison and live like you are
enjoying life in a condominium,” said presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda in a radio interview on Saturday.
“The president told Secretary Leila de Lima
that the national prison needs to be straightened out. What has been ongoing for several
years, Secretary Leila de Lima is putting a stop
(to) right now,” he said.—AFP

Naireport sa Kuwait Times ang tungkol kay Lourdes Abejuela
noong
araw
na
bawian
ito
ng
buhay
(http://news.kuwaittimes.net/lion-kills-filipina-maid-kuwait/).
(Maxxy Santiago, Randy Mendoza at Ben Garcia). Nakiisa din sa
programa ang ilang mga listeners through phone-in questions.
Abangan ang kabuoang panayam kay Congen Dado na ilalabas
sa Pinoy Arabia website at Facebook account.

Prize comes first, not the fans: Maywheather
VEGAS: American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr
once more confirmed on Thursday his life philosophy - that the most important thing for
him is money, not the fans.
Although he initially said last week when
he accepted the challenge of Filipino champ
Manny Pacquiao that he agreed to the long
overdue dream match to give in to boxing
fans’ request.
WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd
Mayweather Jr. of the U.S. attends a news conference at the MGM Grand hotel-casino in Las
Vegas, Nevada September 10, 2014.
Mayweather will defend his titles, including his
WBC jr. middleweight title, against Marcos
Maidana of Argentina in a rematch at the
MGM Grand Garden Arena on September 13.
Despite Loss To Pacquiao, Algieri To Get
RING 8 (NY) Fighter Of The Year Award
Among his conditions in accepting the
Manny
Floyd
match is that he would get a larger share of
the guaranteed purse that Pacquiao didn’t
object to. He justifies the higher cut of the pie
by comparing his situation and the Filipino
congressman now to 2007 when he was pitted
against the champion then, Oscar de la Hoya
who took home the bigger share of the $130
million guaranteed purse even if Mayweather
won the bout by split decision.
That fight boosted his ranking, which he
has maintained until now with his 0 loss
record.
“I got to where I got to by making the right
moves. No matter how you cut it, I got to
where I got to by winning, working smart, not
working harder. So when I hear a guy says I
just do it for the fans, that’s not true, totally
not true,” Philstar quotes Mayweather.
He insisted that he fights smart when he
runs around the ring, which Pacquiao
described as a boring style of fighting that
places fans to sleep.
He added that Pacquiao’s sixth round loss
to Juan Manuel Marquez has lessened the
Filipino southpaw’s commercial appeal, which
Mayweather is capitalising on to justify his
demand for a bigger paycheck than Pacquiao.
“I do it for a little of everything. I am a prizefighter. The prize comes first,” Money May
emphasised.—IBT
