guiding nursing students and clinicians along a professional development pathway.
Target Audience

nurse managers, and staff nurses.
Meet Our Keynote Presenter
Christine A. Tanner, PhD, RN, FAAN
A.B. Youmans Spaulding Distinguished Professor
Oregon Health & Science University / School of Nursing
Dr. Christine A. Tanner is the Interim Dean and A.B. Youmans-Spaulding Distinguished Professor at Oregon
Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Nursing. For the last decade, Dr. Tanner has been involved in
creating educational solutions to address the projected nursing shortage. This includes looking for ways to
increase enrollment and prepare a new kind of nurse in the context of rapid changes in the nursing practice
environment and a rapidly evolving health care system. Dr. Tanner was instrumental in developing the Oregon
Consortium for Nursing Education (OCNE) that was launched in 2003 as a partnership among OHSU and
several community colleges (www.ocne.org.) The OCNE model was designed to incorporate best practices in
teaching and learning with a shared curriculum and is increasingly being viewed as a national model for
education transformation, and was highlighted in the Institute of Medicine Report on the Future of Nursing and
the Carnegie Foundation Study of Nursing Education.
Dr. Tanner received her PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Colorado and completed a post-doctoral study at the University of
California, San Francisco. She holds an MS in Medical-Surgical Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco, and a BSN from the
University of Northern Colorado. Dr. Tanner has published numerous articles related to nursing education and served as Editor-In-Chief for the
Journal of Nursing Education from 1991 to 2012. She is a widely sought-after guest speaker and consultant with nursing programs throughout the
United States and internationally and is highly regarded as an expert in the field of nursing education. Dr. Tanner is the recipient of numerous honors
including the AJN Book of the Year Award for Expertise in Nursing Practice: Caring, Clinical Judgment and Ethics; the Graduate Faculty Award from
OHSU School of Nursing; the National League for Nursing Award for Excellence in Nursing Education Research; and the Oregon Medical Research
Foundation Mentor Award.
