The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to provide optimal breastfeeding care and
support to families. This workshop will provide information and tools for experienced clinicians.
Target Audience
Lactation consultants, nurses, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, public health practitioners,
midwives, health educators, doulas, peer counselors, breastfeeding support volunteers,
physicians, physician assistants, chiropractors, speech pathologists, and healthcare profession
students
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
• Describe appropriate support for mothers with delayed lactogenesis according to
contributing factors such as metabolic syndrome.
• Review current strategies for breast pain assessment and management.
• Discuss maternal and infant health factors to assess when evaluating breastfeeding
difficulties.
• Explain how to recognize and screen for perinatal mood disorders in order to identify
appropriate resources for treatment and referral.
• Demonstrate skills to effectively communicate with other health professionals to improve
outcomes for breastfeeding mothers and babies.
• Explain principles to consider when translating news headlines by distinguishing factual and
ground-breaking research from propaganda.

Cancellation and Refunds
If you are unable to attend, you may send a substitute. A refund can be issued if we are
notified by 5pm on September 26, 2014. If a refund is issued, we will deduct a $40 cancellation
