they know well, and every little bit counts. Our 2012 donation form is

Lakeside has partnered with the Great Lakes Scrip
Center to bring you "scrip" -- gift cards that you buy
at face value and use at local and national retailers.
You can buy things you would have purchased
anyway, and a portion of the scrip amount (usually
4-20%) goes back to the school. The list of
participating retailers includes gas stations, coffee
shops, florists, hardware chains, groceries,
drugstores, movie theaters, discount stores and highend retailers. Forms are available at the Lakeside
website, in the office, and on the outside bulletin
board. If you place your order by Tuesday, Feb 7,
your cards will be ready for pickup on Friday, Feb 10,
just in time for Valentine's Day! In addition to the
monthly scrip order, pre-purchased $50-WholeFoods and $25-Safeway cards are for sale any time
during school office hours.

and engaging way. Kids will learn everything from basic piece movement to advanced tactics, with lessons tailored to suit students of all skill levels.
Participants will receive a trophy and a folder containing all of the puzzles they complete throughout the course. Instructor: Chess Wizards
Kidz Clay! (Ceramics)
Experience the magic of clay! In this hands-on class, we explore the handbuilding techniques of coil, pinch and slab in exciting projects that
nurture children's creativity. Every week, students will create pieces such as animals, masks, houses, and more! These projects make great bases
for children's personal visions, and allow them to play with art concepts including symmetry, texture, and patterns.
Children will build their own clay stamps and learn how to find unique tools in everyday life, while developing strength and precision in their most
valuable clay tool... their hands! You'll be delighted at the creations your child will proudly bring back home!
Instructor: Claire Weber brings experience and passion in working with kids, with over 10 years experience in clay, both hand-building and
pottery wheel, and 8 years making art and clay projects with elementary grade children. Clay is an amazing medium that feeds our sense of
touch, tugs at our inner playfulness and boosts our creativity!
Earth, Wind, Inspire
Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow will prevent us from having a great time in this session of Mad Science. We'll learn all about weather as we explore
meteorology and clouds. Take a voyage to the center of the earth as we investigate how our planet formed and the forces that keep changing things.
Discover how science is used to solve crimes, and take home your own I.D. kit. Learn all about pulleys, levers and catapults in Mad Science Machines and
make your own Rocket Racer. Discover first-hand how movie special effects are created. Turn your kitchen into a virtual lab as you learn about the
chemical reactions that take place there. Explore the science behind your favorite toys, as well as some that you
may not have played with, but your parents probably did. You won't want to miss a minute of this exciting series!
Instructor: Mad Science- Mad Science is the world leader in fun science for children. Mad Science conducts educational, entertaining, and hands on
learning activities for elementary age children throughout the Bay Area. Our unique brand of exciting, interactive activities instills a clearer understanding
of how science affects the world around them. Through Mad Science your child will be able to touch, hear, smell, and taste what science is really about.
Young Rembrandts
Young Rembrandts' lessons are fun, engaging, and educational. Students complete one new drawing each week and learn a variety of art concepts
including; portraiture, still life, line and patterning, realism/abstract, perspective, color theory, and art vocabulary. We never repeat lessons so there's
something new each week. With Young Rembrandts your student will "Discover the Power of Drawing!" Instructor: Young Rembrandts
