WEATHER FORECAST BASED ON AGROMET-ADVISORIES W.E.F. 15th October to 19th October, 2014 Crop Situation Stage Weather based Agro- advisories Rainfed & Irrigated Post harvest Harvesting of late sown maize which at present has attained physiological maturity may be taken up after 12 days during clear weather. Irrigated Panicle emergence/ Near maturity/ Maturity Though by and large there are very less chances of rainfall but keeping in view the forecast for rainfall and cloud conditions sun drying of maize de husked cobs may be under taken with utmost care. Storage rooms should be cleaned and sanitized to keep them ready for storing the harvested produce. Harvest coarse and semi-fine rice cultivars which have attained maturity as early as possible during clear weather only. Land preparation of vacated fields may be delayed by 1-2 days and resume it thereafter keeping into consideration the moisture status of soil for timely sowing of succeeding rabi crops like wheat, oilseeds (Mustard/Gobisarson)and pulses (Chickpea /Pea /Lentil). Maize Rice In low lying rice belt, drain out water from basmati rice fields which at present are at anthesis stage. Threshing of harvested rice sheaves may be delayed by 1-2 days. Sun drying of paddy grains obtained from early and medium duration varieties in the open may be taken up after about 1-2 days to bring down the moisture content of grains to safer limits of about 12-14 % for storage. Oilseed Toria & Gobi Sarson Emergence/early vegetative stage It is the right time for sowing of mustard (RLM-198, Pusa Bold, RSPR-01, RLM-514, RLM-619, Kranti, Pusa Bahar, Pusa Basant, Rh-30, Rl-1359, Varuna). Start land preparation after 1-2days as and when the GRAMIN KRISHI MAUSAM SEWA Agromet Advisory Bulletin for Sub Tropical Conditions of Jammu Region Issued Jointly by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology Jammu and India Meteorological Department Pulses (Green gram/Black gram): Kharif Maturity Pulses (Chickpea/Pea/Len til ): Rabi Land preparation Vegetables: Nursery sowing/ transplanting Tomato Potato Fodder (Berseem) Sowing /planting Irrigated Sowing Irrigated /Rainfed Young plants Apiculture Horticulture (citrus, mango, gauva) Bearing plants field conditions become congenial to do so. The toria crop which at present has attained about one month age should be top dressed after 2-3 days when the the soil is at optimum moisture using nitrogen i.e. @15 kg/ha if not applied yet. The farmers may take up the intercultural operations viz thining, weeding cum hoeing in rabi oilseeds ( Gobi sarson) after 1-2 days. Application of pendimethalin in mustard and gobi sarson crops @ 0.75 – 1 Kg/ha as pre emergence may be undertaken within 48 hours of their sowing during clear weather. Postpone the picking of the mature pods of green gram and black gram by 1-2 days to make the fields free for the planting of rabi crops. Plough and plank the vacated fields when they reach workable moisture status and keep them ready with conserved in-situ moisture for sowing of rabi pulses Sowing of direct sown vegetable crops like raddish carrot, fenugreek, spinach and spinach beet, coriander may be delayed by 1-2 days and resume thereafter when the field attain optimum moisture status. Nursery sowing of transplanting crop knolkhol, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and onion can be taken up after 1-2 days. Delay sowing of garlic by 1-2 days. Field preparation for sowing of berseem (var.mascavi,BL-1,BL-10 etc) under puddle conditions can taken up Inoculation of berseem seed with Rhizobium culture should be done before sowing and also mix 1 kg mustard seed with recommended seed rate of berseem at the time of sowing to increase fodder yield in the first 1-2 cuts. Protect aperies from wasp attack by killing them with fly flappers or using poisoned baits consisting of meat or fish Feed honeybee on need based by mixing 1:1 sugar and water at 15 days intervals. Need based irrigation may be applied Removing of the tying material from bud or grafted union may be taken up on clear weather day. Examine the stakes provided to young plants and restake the plant if needed. Need based irrigation may be provided Removal of suckers may be under taken Cultivate land between fruit plants when it is at optimum moisture to ease ploughing operations. For shoot borer in mango and leaf minor and canker in citrus the recommended spray schedules should be followed.
