Hideout busted in
Kishtwar

JAMMU: The army on
Saturday busted a hideout
and recovered arms and
ammunition in Kishtwar
District of Jammu and
Kashmir.
Based on a specific information, Rashtriya Rifle
(RR) troops and police
launched a joint operation at
Malgot in Kishtwar District
and busted a hideout today, a
Defence spokesman said
here.
The recoveries from the
hideout include a 51/52 mm
mortar, a 7.62 mm self-loading rifle, two PakistanorigiSPn pistols, one handheld radio set, 415 rounds of
7.62 mm ammunition, 12
rounds of 0.380 mm ammunition, six mortar bombs, 12
UBGL grenades, 10 hand
grenades, three 7.62mm rifle
magazines and two pistol
magazines, he said.
The busting of the hideout
is a major blow to terrorists
and has once again displayed
the total domination of the
Indian Army and security
forces in the hinterland of
Kishtwar, the spokesman

Sharpening his attack on
dynastic politics, Prime
Minister Narendra Modi on
Saturday asked the people to
shun the "families" that have
monopolised
power
in
Haryana by forging "behindthe-scene alliances" for past
25 years and were propagating "goondashahi".
"People of Haryana will not
forgive the looters of
Haryana. Five families have
ruled the state for last 25
years.
Here, they have forged
behind-the scene alliances
ahead of elections. They have
decided amongst themselves
that they will loot the state by
turns," he said addressing
rallies in Haryana ahead of
15th October polls.
Modi said these families
gave the semblance of opposing each other in public, but
actually had a cosy arrangement of alternate periods of
rule. "Haryana needs freedom from the rule of these
families," the Prime Minister
said.
"They have an agreement
that one family will rule for
five years while the other
family will badmouth the ruling family. In the next elections, other family comes to
the power and circle goes on.
You have to save Haryana
from these 'goondashahi'
(reign of anti-social elements)
and dynastic politics," Modi
said at the rally in Sira.
He said that time has come
"to bring an end to this
game...People of the State
have decided to throw them
out and punish them for their
deeds."
Modi said the State various
parts of the state have suffered due to political rivalry
and assured the people of
even development across the
State. He claimed that the
support of the people was
taken for granted and their
aspirations from successive
regimes ignored.

Drug overdose suspected behind teenage
girl’s death; 4 member board constituted

JAMMU: A young girl died late last night
after she was shifted in serious condition to
the Government Medical College (GMC),
Jammu, for treatment by her family members.
According to reports, the young girl, identified
as Divya Manhas daughter of Krishan Lal,
resident of 382, Marble Market, returned
home late last night after attending a party.
Police said, her condition suddenly got deteriorated around 2:00 AM and her family members shifted her to the GMC for treatment,
where, she failed to respond to the treatment
and breathed her last.
On Saturday, a board of four doctors has
been constituted who have videographed and
pictured the deceased for investigations. FIR
has been registered and proceedings under
section 174 of CrPC have been initiated.
Police further informed that the doctors
attending the girl found some injection marks
on her arms which suggest that she might
have taken drugs and an overdose can be a
reason for her death. The matter was immediately informed to the police which rushed to
the spot and took the body into its custody.
The body after autopsy was handed over to the
family members for last rites. Police has
rounded up some of her friends to ascertain
the facts.

JAMMU: Jammu and
Kashmir is all set to have a
revamped Motor Vehicle Act,
to meet the challenge posed
by growing number of accidents that have claimed more
deaths that the two and half
decade long terror violence.
Indiscipline on roads and
the bad traffic management
has posed a big threat to the
administration in recent
years. To meet the situation,
the government is contemplating to bring stringent
laws to enforce discipline and
minismise the accidents.
In 2013, as per Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India
Report, the highest 63.5 per cent deaths due to accidents
occurred in Jammu and Kashmir alone. Nagaland followed
with 52 per cent of all unnatural deaths.
In Jammu and Kashmir, 9, 17, 000 vehicles stand registered. The Report says that the accidental death per 1,000
vehicles is 1.1 per cent in Jammu and Kashmir compared to
0.9 per cent national average. Two wheelers are the most
dangerous and responsible for fatal accidents in the State.
The proposed Act envisages
deterrence in terms of imposing huge fines on erring vehicle operators and checking
various traffic violations.

Pakistan on Saturday violated ceasefire twice along
International Border (IB)
and Line of Control (LoC) in

Districts, drawing strong

land to a private housing corporation within days of initiation of the request. However,
the recommendations had to
be withdrawn when the 'scam'
got leaked after media intervention. Fearing exposure
and imminent action, the
Deputy Commissioner made
a volta-face, stating that he
was under an impression of
the housing corporation being
a government entity. The
hilarious argument for expediting the case in jet-speed
exposed the casualness of an
officer from an elite service,
who took such a big decision
involving huge government
asset worth crorers of rupees
without bothering to verify
the antecedents of the applicant, The insiders, however,
insist that those processing
and recommending the case
were in know of the transaction and the beneficiary, who

How will corruption end when glamourised?

earned money to lead a luxurious
life, thousands of her supporters
in Tamil Nadu felt pain, which
they shamelessly demonstrated
by beating their chests in open.
Similarly, the blind followers of
Om Prakash Chautala created
quite a scene when the octogenarian walked into the jail for
jumping his bail by campaigning
in the elections despite getting
relief on the plea of bad health.
He went to jail like a groom goes
to bedeck the wedlock. In his
'sermon' to media, Chatuala
accused the Centre of misusing
CBI for political purposes thereby casting aspersions of the judicial dispensation.
Both the former Chief
Ministers of Tamil Nadu and
Haryana have been convicted for
possessing assets disproportionate to their known source of
income. Instead of getting condemned for betraying public
trust, they get projected as victims by their supporters, most of
who are poor, exploited and subjugated by the system their leaders imposed upon them during
hey days. Hero-worship has
taken toll of virtue in Indian public life. The evil is being glamourised without an iota of effort
made by self-proclaimed champions of corruption-free India to
generate public awareness. The
hero-worshipping of the people
like Jaylalitta and Chautala raises many questions about the success of anti-corruption drive in
1.25 billion strong nation.
The nation witnessed similar
scenes when 2G accused A. Raja
or former Chief Minister
Karunanidhi's parliamentarian
daughter
Kanimozhi
were
released on bail after being sent
to jail for their omissions and
commissions. The jail birds
found huge trail of supporters
walking down the streets cheering on their flower bedecked
tainted leaders. Commonwealth
Games scam accused Suresh
inflicted of this cancerous
growth. Every government office
with dusty environs and Gandhi's
portrait hanging on the shabby
walls has become citadel of corruption. The unfortunate part of
the malady is that corrupt are
not looked down upon in the
Indian society where monetary
affluence is a major measure of
Corruption will not go as long as the people worship
their leaders blindly. If corruption in public life is to be
tackled, politicians need to be humbled.
Kalmadi also managed a similar
euphoric crowd when he walked
out of the jail barricades.
India is portraying a real grim
scenario on account of war
against corrupt. Corruption is
rampant. It is not only in highest
echelons of power centre but
every limb of administration is
success in life. See how
Jaylalitha mocked at the poor
when she opened up the coffers
of illegally accumulated wealth to
solemnize the marriage of her
adopted son. He stands abandoned since. The poor who are
shedding tears now on her
pathetic situation were nowhere
allowed to be near the scene of
royal marriage.
Imagine how convicted corrupt
like Lalu Prasad Yadav is taken
on shoulders to celebrate his
comeback from the jail-cell. He
did not only manage to find a
space in political arena but
staged his comeback with big
bang, securing several crucial
seats in the Bihar bye-election a
month or so ago.
True, judgments cannot be
passed on the corrupt leaders as
they have preferred appeals
against their conviction but perception matters much in public
life. Of course, a person is innocent till proved otherwise but at
the same time how can the criminals be allowed to dominate politics and civil services. They can't
be kept at distance in the matters of the state, if the people
themselves glorify them brazenly
and openly.
The only palpable solution lies
in generating awareness about
the evil of corruption that has
retarded the growth of this
nation which was known centuries ago a golden sparrow. Who
will do that? Not the corrupt
politician or unscrupulous public
servant! The command has to be
taken by the people themselves.
Unless the poor stand against
loot and plunder unleashed by
powerful and those in public life,
corruption will not go. It will not
go as long as the people worship
their leaders blindly. If corruption in public life is to be tackled,
politicians need to be humbled.
Otherwise,
Rajas,
Yadavs,
Kanzimohis,
Chautalas,
Jaylalithas will continue to don
the mantle of respectability and
trample rights of the Indian
poor. Verdict lies in you and me!
