over McMurry on Saturday. The Buffs
have won three in a row, improving to
3-2 overall and 2-1 IN LSC. WT is one
game back of Texas A&M-Commerce in
the LSC standings.

with a 19-12 win last season. Midwestern State is 8-6 in Canyon and
won in a 52-48 come-from-behind
thriller in Canyon in 2012. Prior to
that, WT had won the previous three
meetings at home.
THIRD DOWN: Midwestern State,
despite a 45-31 loss to Angelo State
on Saturday, is ranked No. 25 in the
country and is the only team ranked in
the LSC in the AFCA Division II Coaches poll. Senior quarterback Jake Glover is averaging 265 yards of total
offense with 231 of those coming
through the air. Running back Dante
Taylor is second in the LSC averaging
105 yards a game with four touchdowns. Defensively, Dayvyon Henry
leads the team with 30 tackles.
FOURTH DOWN: The WT offense is
starting to click. Junior quarterback
Preston Rabb threw for 302 yards and
a career-high four touchdowns in the
win over McMurry. Senior receiver
Anthony Johnson is closing in on the
school’s top-10 list in career receiving
yards. He has 1,786 yards and is 166
yards away from the top 10. Defensively the Buffs are led by redshirt
freshman linebacker Carter James,
who has 59 tackles and two QB sacks.
Getting personal with ... Ethan Morriss
Morriss, a 22-year-old, 6-foot,
204-pound junior defensive back is
a Sonora High School graduate.
Morriss has started all five
games at safety for the Buffs this
season, totaling 29 tackles, a
forced fumble and an interception.
He played in all 14 games last year,
making 45 tackles and tying for second on
the team with two interceptions.
n How did you get to WT?
“I really didn’t know much about WT. I really
found out about WT my senior of high school
when a good friend of mine from Levelland
went to school here and said ‘Hey, you should
send your tape to WT and see what they say.’
So I did, and the coaches contacted me.”
n Growing up in Sonora, which isn’t far from
San Angelo, was it special to play at Angelo State
this year?
“I loved it. It was awesome. Our receiver
Word Hudson is also from Sonora, so it was
cool for us. All of the old high school coach-
es were there. My family was there,
and even my dentist was there. So it
was pretty cool for everyone to come
see me play. It was the first time
since high school.”
n What does WT mean to you?
“Just getting to play college football is an awesome experience. Like
coach (Mike) Nesbitt says, we are the few
that get to do what we do. If you look at statistics, only 1 percent of high school athletes
play college football so I’m really fortunate.”
n You watch college football or NFL football?
“Yes, I don’t watch NFL that much, but
even though I kinda hate to say it right now,
I’m a big Texas Longhorn fan even though
they’re having a rough year.”
n If you could have dinner with three professional athletes, who you would like to have dinner with?
“Emmitt Smith, Ed Reed and Randy Johnson.”

Texas A&M, 14-5.
Nesbitt guided the Buffs
to a 10th straight win on
homecoming while improving his own mark to 2-0 on
homecoming games. The Buffs have won
three straight games to put themselves
back in the Lone Star Conference race.
Nesbitt spent 2007-2010 as an assistant coach at WT before stints at offensive
coordinator at Stephen F. Austin State and
the University of Houston.
n “You look at Midwestern and you see
they're outscoring their opponents in the
second and fourth quarter of games.
You're going to see a team that is super
balanced, and that's always expected from
a Bill Maskill team. They're going to be
pumped and excited to play."

Conference and the winningest coach in program history. He has an overall record of 111-46,
