What is this?
• What is the Gangster test?
• What does the Ganster test test?
• How do we use the Gangster test?

websites on the internet
The Gangster test
• A test of the navigation of the website
• Fast test / few resources
- you can test by youself or inclued a test user
• A test for excisting websites
- or use the test for design and development
• It’s like in a gangster movie...
- It’s about finding your way!
„The navigation is not a function on the website
– it is the website”
- Steve Krug

• What is a User test?
• Why do we do User test?
• How do we perform a User test?

Usability

User test
• A test of the user’s experience on the website
- an investigation that to show if the user understands the website
- an investigation that to show if the user can actually use the website
• From little to very resource demanding
- from fast to very demanding test
• Test on existing websites
- or test on prototypes of the website

User test
Execution:
• Make sure the test person feels welcome
- make sure it is quiet and peaceful in the room
- avoid stressing the test user any way you can
• Tell a little about the purpose of the test
• Start out with some easy questions
- ask about the test user’s sex, age, education, occupation
• Have the test user do small tasks on the website
• Ask follow up questions
• Ask the test person to ”think a loud”
- The test user needs to say everything that he is thinking
- it will seem unnatural to most people...
• Stress that you are testing the website
- it is not the test user who is being tested
• Make sure that you get documentation
- write notes, record on a dictaphone or a video

Usability

websites on the internet
Heuristic evaluation
• A test of usability based on heuristics
- Rules guides or principles
• Medium resource requirements
- The test does not demand a test user
• A test for excisting websites
- or use the test for design and development
• Two kinds of experts:
- Exsperts regarding webdesign and usability
- Exsperts regarding the subject of matter
• Jakob Nielsen’s 10 heuristics:
- A statement of the usability of a systeme
- Developed by Jakob Nielsen in the 90s for software-systems

Heuristic evaluation
Execution:
• Preparation and brief (4 experts)
• 4 experts evaluate the website alone
- for 1 hour
• The 4 experts get together to do a joint evaluation

and/or Principles of Interaction Design
• Discus the potential problems
- Get together in with your group and discus the problems
• Prepare a 5 minuts presentation
- Prepare a Powerpoint presentation
