Lord of the feast, you have prepared a table before all peoples and
poured out your life with abundance. Call us again to your banquet.
Strengthen us by what is honorable, just, and pure, and transform us
into a people of righteousness and peace, through Jesus Christ, our
Savior and Lord. Amen.
First Reading
Exodus 32: 1-14
When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the
mountain, the people gathered around Aaron, and said to him,
"Come, make gods for us, who shall go before us; as for this Moses,
the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not
know what has become of him." 2Aaron said to them, "Take off the
gold rings that are on the ears of your wives, your sons, and your
daughters, and bring them to me." 3So all the people took off the
gold rings from their ears, and brought them to Aaron. 4He took the
gold from them, formed it in a mold, and cast an image of a calf; and
they said, "These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of
the land of Egypt!" 5When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before
it; and Aaron made proclamation and said, "Tomorrow shall be a
festival to the LORD." 6They rose early the next day, and offered
burnt offerings and brought sacrifices of well- being; and the people
sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to revel. 7The LORD said to
Moses, "Go down at once! Your people, whom you brought up out
of the land of Egypt, have acted perversely; 8they have been quick
to turn aside from the way that I commanded them; they have cast
for themselves an image of a calf, and have worshiped it and
sacrificed to it, and said, 'These are your gods, O Israel, who brought
you up out of the land of Egypt!'" 9The LORD said to Moses, "I
have seen this people, how stiff-necked they are. 10Now let me
alone, so that my wrath may burn hot against them and I may
consume them; and of you I will make a great nation." 11But Moses
implored the LORD his God, and said, "O LORD, why does your
wrath burn hot against your people, whom you brought out of the
land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? 12Why
should the Egyptians say, 'It was with evil intent that he brought
them out to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from
the face of the earth'? Turn from your fierce wrath; change your
mind and do not bring disaster on your people. 13Remember
Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, how you swore to them
by your own self, saying to them, 'I will multiply your descendants
like the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will
give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.'" 14And
the LORD changed his mind about the disaster that he planned to
bring on his people.

Glory to You, O Lord
Once more Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying: 2The kingdom
of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet
for his son. 3He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to
the wedding banquet, but they would not come. 4Again he sent
other slaves, saying, 'Tell those who have been invited: Look, I have
prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been
slaughtered, and everything is ready; come to the wedding banquet.'

But they made light of it and went away, one to his farm, another to

In Our Lives:
The congregation extends sympathy to Leonard Zeller on the passing
of his wife, Judy Zeller. Judy passed away on Wednesday, October 8,
2014, Cresco, IA. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 11,
2014, at Cresco United Methodist Church.
The congregation extends sympathy to LuAnn (Bob) Gast on the
passing of her father last week.

FALL DINNER INFORMATION:
Dinner Tickets Sales: Dinner & Raffle tickets will be sold
after both the Sunday morning and Wednesday evening
services. Adults (Advance) $9.00 or (At Door) $10.00,
Children 6-12: $5.00, Under 3: $3.00. Raffle Tickets: $1.00
or a book for $5.00. Church office also has both available for
purchase.
Sign-up sheets are now up on the bulletin board by the church
educational wing entrance. There are two sign-up sheets for
the Fall Dinner: One is for workers, listing hours and where
help is needed and the other is for food and monetary
donations. There are plenty of opportunities available to
share your time and talents.
Preorder Lard from the Fall Dinner by calling the church
office or signing your name to the sign-up sheet located on the
bulletin board in the Educational Wing. This year we are only
ordering 15- 8# tubs of lard. Please get you order in if you
would like a tub this year by October 31, 2014.
We are also looking for larger craft items to be donated to
the Silent Auction and for the Raffle. Anyone who may wish
to participate in this way, by making a donation of your crafts,
are asked to please call or email the church office as soon as
possible.
APPLE PIES:
Adult Volunteers needed assist in the making of pie crusts
and pie assembly. The youth of Immanuel are once again
making apple pies to sell and would appreciate assistance from
those who enjoy baking, rolling, kneading, measuring and
having a good time. Also help is needed to make the delicious
apple filling for the pies. This is another opportunity to assist
the youth and their parents by peeling, coring, slicing, and
adding spices to the apples. The Board of Youth welcomes
you to join the youth and their parents to make this annual
activity a success. For more information please contact Bob
Omar, Tara Duerre, or Marsha Headington.
Apple Pies for Sale: Preorder delicious ready to bake Apple
Pies. The freshness of the apples, the scrumptious filling and
the perfectly buttered, flakey, crust, it’s homemade at its very
best! $7.50 per pie and all proceeds go to the Youth of
Immanuel for upcoming events. Please call the church office
at 547-2108 to preorder your pies.
G.L.O.W.
G.L.O.W. -Wednesday, October 29th :
G.L.O.W.
program will be having a Halloween night this Wednesday.
The children may wear their Halloween costume but please
NO masks.
Bring A Friend to G.L.O.W. and W.O.W. on November
12th . Everyone, kids and adults, are encouraged to bring a
friend to G.L.O.W. and Worship On Wednesday, November
12. Service will last the regular 30 minutes.
Christmas Program: Mark your calendars for the
G.L.O.W. Christmas Program on December 17th. There will be
no meal and no communion this night.
God's Work Our Hands: The official synod date for “God's
Work, Our Hands” Sunday was September 7th. Due to the fact
that this year people needing help asked if we could do yard
work and rake leaves, we postponed it to a Sunday afternoon
in October. We will be raking leaves and washing windows at
one couple's house, yard work for a member having surgery,
and hopefully cleaning up God's Garden for winter. We
haven't set the exact date yet as leaves are still on the trees, but
we will be announcing it in a Temple Talk and in the bulletin.
We hope many will volunteer to work together in doing God's
Work through Our Hands!
Please check the kitchen shelves for a pan and/or bowl that
you may have been brought for a funeral or another event.
They are clean and ready to be taken home. You may find your
bowl or pan on top of or underneath the counter on the east
side of the kitchen.
Stewardship Fund Raiser: Available for purchase are Kwik
Star gas cards in denominations of $500.00, $200, $100, $50,
$20 and smaller. Stop by the office or purchase at coffee
fellowship following Sunday worship.
YOUTH:
Confirmation Rehearsal: Wednesday, October 15, at 7:45
p.m. Both students and parents/guardian should attend this
meeting. If you are not able to attend, please call Pastor Karen
before 5:30 p.m. on October 15 at 563-2108. We will gather in
the lounge at 7:45 p.m. and move to the sanctuary.
October 19, Youth Sunday: Youth needed to help with
worship service as greeters, ushers, lectors, etc. Also the
praise band will play two songs during the worship service.
WORSHIP: Upcoming Events, Services, Survey
Hymn Selection Meeting: Monday, October 13, at 5:00 p.m.
Christmas Decorating: Mark your calendar for Sunday,
November 23, at 10:15 a.m. Come join us in transforming the
church for the Christmas season. All ages are welcome.
No Rail Communion will be held the first weekend in
November, Fall Dinner, and December, space limitations with
Christmas decorations. Communion will be served by
intinction.
Christmas Candlelight Service, with communion, will be
held on December 24, and there will be no G.L.O.W. or
W.O.W. on that night.
Christmas Morning Service, December 25, at 9:00 a.m. will
not be held this year.
Worship On Wednesday, December 24 and December 31, at
7:00 p.m. will not be held during the holiday season.
Worship Survey cards will be handed out before each church
service by the Ushers. Congregation members should check
any areas they would like to volunteer and give the card back
to the Ushers during communion or place in the offering plate
during offering. We appreciate the many volunteers, Greeters,
Ushers, Lectors, Communion Assistants, Assisting Ministers,
Projectionists, Sound Operators and Communion Preparers,
who help make the Sunday and Wednesday services run
smoothly. We hope this survey will encourage members to
volunteer in areas they haven’t yet tried. Information and/or
training will be provided for each task. If you haven’t filled
out a card please do so and return it at service or in the office.
In The Community:
Zion United Methodist Women invite you to their Annual
Salad Luncheon on Friday, October 17, at 11:00 a.m. All are
welcome. Musical entertainment followed by food and
fellowship. Free will offering. Country church located on the
Golden Ridge road 10 miles N of Cresco towards Granger.
German Cemeteries Tour – October 19th : The Winneshiek
County Pioneer Cemetery Commission will sponsor a tour of
several ethnic German pioneer cemeteries located in the
southwestern portion of the county on Sunday afternoon,
October 19, 2014, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Included in the tour
are St. John German Lutheran, St. Clement German Catholic,
and St. James German Lutheran Churches and adjoining
graveyards near Ridgeway, Spillville, and at Fort Atkinson
respectively. Tour leader is historian and commission member
Russell Baldner of Spillville, who will provide historical
background for each site, including religious denominational
history. The public is cordially invited to join the tour.
Participants are to provide their own transportation and are
asked to meet at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran—Old Stone
Church—located on 240th St., one mile south and three miles
west of Ridgeway. Please check local radio for notice of
cancellation due to weather.
Upwards of one-hundred burial grounds are located in
Winneshiek County, nearly half of which are pioneer
cemeteries. The Code of Iowa defines a pioneer cemetery as
one in which there have been twelve or fewer burials in the
preceding fifty years. Established by county ordinance in
1997, the Winneshiek County Pioneer Cemetery Commission
consists of nine members serving three-year terms appointed
by the Board of Supervisors. A primary purpose of the
commission is to aid in the preservation and maintenance of
burial grounds that might otherwise be neglected.
