Welcome to Sprogcenter Aalborg’s (Aalborg Language School) educational offers: Danish courses Sprogcenter Aalborg is a place where foreigners meet in an intercultural and professional teaching environment to learn Danish and to gain an understanding of Danish culture and society. Sprogcenter Aalborg provides Danish courses, which are structured around the individual student’s educational background: Sprogcenter Aalborg offers two kinds of Danish courses Work-related Danish courses Ordinary Danish courses Work-related Danish courses are offered to All foreign workers and their accompanying spouse Foreign students Au-pairs Ordinary Danish courses are offered to Family reunion members Refugees Sprogcenter Aalborg offers both courses and they are both structured around the individual students educational background Work-related Danish courses Students who attend work-related Danish courses at Sprogcenter Aalborg will attend the same Danish course for beginners as the students who are referred to ordinary Danish courses. Students both categories will be taught work-related Danish Students who are referred to work-related Danish courses will be offered a 250 lessons Danish course. The course must be completed within 1½ year after commencement. This counts for students who are referred to work-related Danish courses from January 1.th 2014 After the 250 lessons the student`s knowledge of Danish will be tested through a relevant test provided by the language school. If the student wants to continue Danish courses after the 250 lessons course he/she is allowed to continue the ordinary Danish courses. The test be used to place the student on the level they are qualified to participate in. The student is allowed to continue ordinary Danish courses and conclude with a statecontrolled final exam within 3 years timeframe after commencement . Referral to Danish courses Foreigners who have a Danish cpr number must obtain a referral for work-related Danish courses at the municipality and if the student wants to continue learning Danish after the 250 lessons course, the student needs a new referral for the Ordinary Danish courses. Family reunion members and refugees must also obtain a referral for the Ordinary Danish courses from the municipality. In this case it is the language school who evaluates and refers the student for modultest and the final examination of Danish. Some students can expect to complete their Danish education in 1½ year ,while others will need considerable longer time to complete their Danish education. To obtain a referral for Danish classes a prospective student must contact the “kommune” ( council/municipality) in which they reside. In Aalborg Kommune the referral is obtained through Jobcenter Integration, Kastetvej 26, tlf: 99 31 58 01. Jobcenter Integration holds information sessions every Tuesday at 9.30 am and again on Thursday at 3.15 pm. This provides an opportunity to apply for a referral for Danish classes at Sprogcenter Aalborg. Please remember to bring copy of registration papers / residence permit. Ordinary Danish courses Commencement The ordinary Danish courses are intended for family reunion members and refugees .There are 3 courses, all divided into 6 modules. Each module consisting of a certain number of lessons concluding with a test. The period from obtaining a referral, to the interview at Sprogcentret, to commencing classes will normally be between one to an (maximum) four weeks. Classes are continually starting throughout the year on a per need basis. Classes are planned on a flexible schedule to allow, the student to combine their Danish education with work or other study. Daytime classes are typically offered 4 days a week with a morning class starting at 8.30 am to 11.45 am, or an afternoon class from 12.15 am to 3.30 pm. Evening classes are offered twice from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm or 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm The right to these Danish courses lasts for up til 5 years for students who have obtained a referral after January 1. 2014. However this does not mean that the student is provided more lessons on each level , but it gives the student better possibilities to complete the course with acceptable breakes. Anyone who is completing independent Danish language study is able to attend the final Danish exam. To do so, you must register and pay the test in the beginning of March or in the beginning of September at Sprogcenter Aalborg’s administration Other Services Offered at Sprogcenter Aalborg Studiecentret is the Language School’s open learning environment where students can work independently with their Danish as well as having access to a Studiecenter teacher. Studiecentret is open daily from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm (except Tuesday) and again from 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm (except Friday). This provides a space where students can work with educational computer programs, pronunciation and grammar exercises, borrow books, tapes and DVD’s, read the daily papers, use the internet and other activities that can help to strengthen Danish language skills and expand knowledge about Danish society. FVU – Forberedende Voksen Undervisning (preparational adult education) is offered to foreigners who typically have concluded the tree year Danish language education entitlement but who need to upgrade their Danish reading and writing competencies. This offer is typically 2 1/2 lessons a week and is free of charge for all students, regardless of which kommune (council) one resides in. Please contact the Sprogcenter Aalborg for further information. The naturalization test is held twice a year at Sprogcenter Aalborg. Please contact Sprogcenter Aalborg’s administration for further information, enrolment and payment of test fees. FOR Sprogcenter Aalborg is a public language centre under Aalborg Kommune’s Department of Families and Employment. Sprogcentret teaches more than 1300 students annually, from which more than 100 nationalities are represented. Sprogcentret also provides a variety of educational solutions to Aalborg Kommune, other councils and private businesses. Sprogcentret employs around 50 people, many of whom have contributed professionally for more than 20 years to the development of Danish as a Second Language programs for adult foreigners.
