RED RIBBON WEEK Sharon School will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week Monday, October 20 through Friday, October 24. There will be daily “themed” activities to remind us to stay away from drugs! Monday, October 20— “Walk Away From Drugs.” Weather permitting, students and staff will take a walk through the Sharon neighborhood. Wear Red Day! Tuesday, October 21—”Friends Don’t Let Friends Bully Or Do Drugs.” Friends dress as twins. Twin Day! Wednesday, October 22— “Smarties Don’t Do Drugs.” Nerd Day! Thursday, October 23—”Lasso A Drug Free Life.” Cowboy Day! Friday, October 24—”Follow Your Dreams. Don’t Do Drugs.” Pajama Day! Join the fun and participate in the daily themes! Thank you to the Newburgh Volunteer Fire Depatment visiting Sharon School and talking to the first graders about their job and the importance of fire safety. The students really enjoyed seeing the fire trucks and getting volunteer fire badges from the firemen! New Staff Spotlight My name is Ashley Kinsey, and I am happy to be teaching kindergarten at Sharon this year. I was born and raised in Newburgh, and I graduated from USI with an elementary education degree with a minor in visual arts. I previously worked at Yankeetown and J.H. Castle, but love teaching kindergarten here at Sharon. Everyone has been so nice and welcoming! I have been married for 10 years and have a beautiful, intelligent, etc, daughter Abigail who is 8 years old. I enjoy spending time with family, cooking, and reading in my spare time. Generation Y October 20-24—Red Ribbon Week and School Safety Week PTO Fundraiser October 22—5th Grade Physics Experiments Field Trip to CHS Many, many thanks to all the students, parents, and Sharon staff volunteers that worked together to make the 1st Annual Sharon Staff vs Sharon 5th Grade Girls Volleyball Team Game a tremendous success! $276.15 was collected for “Gate Donations” and another $176.00 from concessions, to help pay for the gym mural which is scheduled to be painted in November! But best of all, the event was full of laughter and fun which cannot be measured in dollars and cents! Thanks to everyone for attending and/or participating! Crusader Basketball Coach Wooldridge and Coach Wagner congratulate the boys that made the Sharon Basketball team and also want to thank everyone that tried out. The team is starting practice this afternoon, preparing for their first game on Thursday, October 23 at J.H. Castle. Their first home game is on Tuesday, October 23 against Yankeetown. Good Luck Boys! Also, we want to recognize that the 5th Grade Pep Squad, under the direction of Mrs. Barnett and Mrs. Dunn, have been busy practicing for their dance performance during the basketball games. We appreciate everyone’s hard work and dedication to their teams. A Special Invitation, Just for You! An Evening Coffee at Sharon Elementary The Sharon Elementary School PTO is hosting a Coffee with the Principal during their next PTO meeting on Thursday, October 16, at 6:00 PM in the school library. Topics to be presented: School Improvement Plan, Bullying, and the 4th and 5th Grade POD. Students in Mrs. Arvin and Mr. Wooldridge’s 5th grade Social Studies classes finished their lesson on Native Americans by presenting their artifact box and tribe information to the kindergarten classes.
