Page Two www.divinemercynatomas.com SAINTS AND READINGS OF THE WEEK Message from Our Deacon . . . A s I reflected on today’s readings, I noced the similarity in the themes in the readings. The Prophet Isaiah and the Gospel both address God’s plan for us. The readings present our salvaon in terms of a royal banquet where the Lord invites us to parcipate in the feast. Isaiah talks about banquet on mountain where we will be invited to sit together with the Lord (Isaiah 25:6-10). The Psalm tells us that Jesus is our Shepherd and invites us to follow Him, at the same me respecng our freedom by giving us the choice to follow Him - or not. Today’s Gospel reading talks about refusal. The king’s invited guests refused his invitaon to a1end a wedding banquet that he threw for his son. Mathew uses beauful images of wedding celebraon to paint a picture of heaven for us. He tells us that heaven is the most amazing feast because the Lord of heaven and earth - invites us to the most important celebraon as members of Christ’s own body, as His bride, the Church. Christ invites us - you and me - to be with Him in His heavenly kingdom! In the parable, the King sent his servants to invite his people to a banquet. Some accepted the invitaon and some offered excuses for not coming. Some even went to the extent of killing the king’s servants (Mathew 21:1-14). In the end, in order to fill the banquet hall, he invited the good and bad to parcipate in the celebraon. Weddings are expensive celebraons and understandably, the king was enraged at the response of those who had been invited; He sent more of his servants to avenge the death of the first servants (the prophets God sent to the Jews). Jesus was addressing the Jews of His day and their religious leaders about how much God wanted to share His joy with them in His kingdom and was giving them a warning about refusing the invitaon of His Son. The very people who should have celebrated His coming rejected Him - thereby bringing judgment upon themselves. Are we doing the same thing? Do we accept God's invitaon or do we put Him aside? I n the second part of the parable, the King directed his servants to go to the town and invited everyone they could find to the wedding (Mathew 22:1-10). This part of the invitaon makes clear that God’s invitaon is for all of us. He offers us the most wonderful of gi<s! It is the gi of eternal salvaon! It is a gi< of grace that is totally underserved and unmerited by any of us! The grace is a free gi<, but it comes with a great responsibility. Are we willing to respond to God’s invitaon and accept the responsibility that it places on us? Are we totally absorbed in our own life and acvies, making the Lord barely noceable in our life? Are we indifferent toward God's will? Do we ignore the need to come closer to God, like the invited guests in the parable? God is constantly reaching out to us and asking us to have a friendship with Him. He endured the agony of death on the Cross for us for our salvaon. Does our a#tude say "no thanks, not at this me because we are preoccupied with earthly things? Bapsm makes us Disciples of Christ. Have you been a good disciple by bringing the divine invitaon to others? Do you know enough about your faith to live it and share it? Do you need to learn more? As Chrisans, it is our responsibility to share our faith with others and allow the Lord to act on more hearts and minds. But if we don't understand our faith how can we share it? As we were reminded in the Gospel of Mathew last Sunday, God expects us to bear good fruits for HIM. How can we fulfill this responsibility for the Lord? Catechism class was a long me ago for some of us; can we find a class and learn more about our faith? Keep reading the rest of the bullen for learning opportunies here in our parish community! Let us pray that we will be open to God’s invitaon and that He will use us to bring more people to Him. ~ Deacon James Ogbonna . . . 28th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME IS 25:6-10A/ PS 23:1-3A, 3B-4, 5, 6 PHIL 4:12-14, 19-20 MT 22:1-14 or MT 22:1-10 Monday, October 13 St. Edward the Confessor GAL 4:22-24, 26-27, 31-5:1 PS 113:1B-2, 3-4, 5A AND 6-7/ LK 11:29-32 Tuesday, October 14 St. Callistus I GAL 5:1-6/ PS 119:41, 43, 44, 45, 47, 48 LK 11:37-41 Wednesday, October 15 St. Teresa of Avila GAL 5:18-25/ PS 1:1-2, 3, 4 AND 6 LK 11:42-46 Thursday, October 16 St. Hedwig, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque EPH 1:1-10/ PS 98:1, 2-3AB, 3CD-4, 5-6 LK 11:47-54 Friday, October 17 St. Ignatius of Antioch EPH 1:11-14/ PS 33:1-2, 4-5, 12-13 LK 12:1-7 Saturday, October 18 St. Luke 2 TM 4:10-17B/ PS 145:10-11, 12-13, 17-18 LK 10:1-9 29th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME St. Isaac Jogues, St. Paul of the Cross IS 45:1, 4-6/ PS 96:1, 3, 4-5, 7-8, 9-10 1 THES 1:1-5B/ MT 22:15-21 Pope Francis @Pontifex “As Jesus told Martha in the Gospel, one thing is necessary: prayer.” #praywithus We Welcome Our New Parishioners: Dinielle Nuñez Isabel Vasquez Victor & Sylvia Reyes and Family Michael & Teresita Heffner The Rosary, though clearly Marian in character, is at heart a Christocentric prayer. In the sobriety of its elements, it has all the depth of the Gospel message in its entirety, of which it can be said to be a compendium. It is an echo of the prayer of Mary, her perennial Magnificat for the work of the redemptive Incarnation which began in her virginal womb. Through the Rosary the faithful receive abundant grace, as though from the very hands of the Mother of the Redeemer.
