Secretary All India Seminar on “Opportunities & Challenges in Product Life Cycle Management” An All India Seminar on “Opportunities & Challenges in Product Life Cycle Management” under the aegis of Production Division, IEI, was organized by IEI Pune Local Centre in association with Department of Production Engineering & Industrial Management, College of Engineering, Pune during 30 th & 31st August 2014. The Chief Guest, Dr.S.K.Basu, former Director, CMERI, Durgapur & Professor Emeritus, College of Engineering, Pune inaugurated the seminar. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Basu shared his views on the trend towards life cycle management of products. He discussed the industrial need for better product development and phases of Product Life Cycle Management. Guest of Honor, Er. Anant V. Patki , Former Scientist ISRO, delivered Keynote Address on “Reliability and Quality Aspects in Product Life Cycle Management” discussing the challenges before India and common drivers for Product Life Cycle Management. He discussed data based tools and simulation models of PLM. He gave an excellent overview of human errors, working environments & safety, risks and hazards. He also gave PUNE LOCAL CENTRE insight of Product Life Cycle Management. Earlier, Dr. D.J. Doke, Chairman, IEI PLC welcomed the gathering. On 31 st August, technical persons from Industries were invited to deliver talks. Mr. Shailesh Khobragade, Technical Manager, Faith PLM Solutions, Pune delivered a talk on “ Need of Product Life Cycle ManagementOpportunities and Challenges” and Mr. Yogesh Uke from 3D PLM , Pune gave his talk on ”Industrial scenario in Product Life Cycle Management and Opportunities in Software Industries”. The program concludee with valedictory function. Convener, Dr. M. D. Jaybhaye, summarized the activities conducted during the two days of the Seminar. Deshpande Memorial Lecture The Pune Local Centre of Institution of Engineers (India) celebrated Late Prof. M. V. Deshpande Memorial Lecture on 1 st Sept. 2014. Chairman of PLC Dr. D. J. Doke welcomed the Chief Guest Shri. Dilip Vairagkar, Ex GM (Boiler and Sugar Machinery Division) Walchandnagar Industries Ltd. and audience. Chairman Dr. D. J. Doke felicitated the Chief Guest and Dr. Madhuri Joshi the daughter of Late Prof. M. V. Deshpande. The Chief Guest in his presentation said that the Conventional Boilers can achieve a maximum efficiency of 36% whereas supercritical boilers can achieve an efficiency of 41%. This is mainly because the boiler operates at 242 Bar Main Steam Pressure, 565 Deg C main steam temperature and 593 Deg C reheat steam temperature. Presently facilities in India are not adequate to manufacture these type of boilers. However huge investments are coming into the country and they are opening tremendous opportunities for this type of technology. There is a tremendous need for Infra structure development both in Materials and Skilled Manpower. Er. D. G. Patil presented vote of thanks. Er. M. A. Toke was the Convener of the event. Convener, Dr. Jaybhaye explaining the theme of the seminar 1 IEI-PLC NEWS 47th ENGINEERS’DAY Lecture Meeting on Antivirus Software The Pune Local Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India) celebrated 47th Engineers’ Day on 15th Sept 2014. Dr. Dinesh Amalnerkar, Executive Director, Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (CMET), Pune graced the occasion as Chief Guest, Er. S. K. Jain IDSE Chief Engineers Pune zone, Military Engineering services Pune, was the Guest of Honour and Er. Prasanta Sarkar Asst. General Manager, Tata Technologies Pune delivered the Key Note address on the theme “MAKING INDIAN ENGINEERING WORLD CLASS”. At the onset, Dr. D. J. Doke, Chairman PLC welcomed the audience and the dignitaries. Er. D. B. Dhone introduced the Chief Guest and Er. V. D. Pandarkar, Convener introduced the Guest of Honour, Shri. S. K. Jain, Jt. Hon. Secretary. Er. V. N. Shinde introduced the key note speaker Er. Sarkar. Chairman Dr. D. J. Doke felicitated all the dignitaries on dais. Er. Prakash Medhekar briefed the audience on the life sketch of Bharat Ratna, Sir Mokshagundum Vishveshwaraya. On the occasion of Engineers’ Day the PLC presented Dr. J. M. Mulay Structural Engineer prize consisting of Rs. 5000/- and Citation & Memento to well known Structural Engineer and Consultant, Er. Dhairyshil Khaire Patil. Er. D. G. Patil briefed the audience about professional work and profile of the Prize Winner. The key note speaker in his address deliberated to build familiarity in other engineering and scientific discipline so that interdisciplinary solution approaches can be evolved. He further said that our product be made with zero defect so that it does not come back from the world market and it will not have an adverse effect on our environment. He stressed that to make zero defect engineering product in India, virtual simulation is a powerful tool. He concluded that virtual engineering practice be echoed in all medium, small scale and even in cottage industries quickly for bringing up the entire gamut of Indian Engineering to World Class Engineering. Er. S. K. Jain, Guest of Honour said that the Military Engineers are rendering high standard services to the Defence forces due to the advancement of Indigenous Engineers Technology. The Chief Guest, Dr. Dinesh Amalnerkar in his concluding address said that every day new materials and information is added in the Technology of all fields and therefore the Scientists and Engineers must update themselves in the latest development in their respective fields. IEI-PLC NEWS The Institution of Engineers (I)Pune Local Centre jointly with Marathi Vidnyan Parishad organized a lecture meeting on the subject “Anti virus software of Quick Heal” on 17/9/2014. Mr.Sanjay Katkar, Director of Quick Heal was the Guest speaker. Er R. S. Ekbote, Committee Member IE(I)PLC was Convener and Mr Vinay R.R. of MVP was Co-convener. Mr. Sanjay Naik introduced the guest speaker and the subject. Guest speaker was felicitated by Jt. Hon. Secretary , Er. V.N.Shinde with a memento. Mr. Sanjay Katkar in his presentation explained the subject in simple and lucid manner with the help of slides. Further he said that now a days computer is essential in every walk of life. Virus from the software infects from one computer to other computers. Virus can delete important files from computer and can pass on via debit cards and credit card as well. It can affects defense preparedness and one country can spy on other country. Some virus lock documents in computers and ask for payments to restore the documents . Once payment is made the virus is not traceable. Virus spreads worldwide in no time. In many countries there are cyber laws for the protection of citizens. Ekbote 2 AGENDA ITEM NO. 2 ANNUAL REPORT 57th Annual General Meeting 1.0 Constitutional : 30 October 2014 at 1900 hrs. 1.1 Corporate Membership of the centre increased from 4,292 to 4,373 & ST / T Membership increased from 20,907 to 22,062. Overall increase in total membership is 4.91%. Enclosure to Agenda Agenda Item No. 1 Confirmation of Minutes of 56 th AGM 1.2 Local Centre Committee : Pune Local Centre Committee has 28 Members as on 31 st March 2014 as listed else where. Draft minutes of the Fifty Sixth (56 th ) Annual General Meeting of Corporate Members of The Institutions of Engineers (India), Pune Local Centre held on 26 th October 2013 at 1900 hrs. at The Institution ’s premises, 1332 Shivajinagar, J.M. Road, Pune – 5. 1.3 PLC Meetings : During the year of report, 10 Meetings of Pune Local Centre Committee were held. The average attendance was 13. Various aspects of management of the centre such as providing and maintaining infrastructure, equipment, human resources, finance & conduction of technical activities were discussed and decided in the meetings. Er Vijay Ghogare, Hon. Secretary, welcomed the corporate members & requested Er D J Doke, Chairman to chair the meeting. Before taking up the Agenda of the AGM, Er Vijay Ghogare requested the house to observe two minutes silence in memory of the deceased members of Pune Local Centre. The house stood & observed the silence in the memory of deceased members Er D J Doke, FIE, Chairman then took up the following Agenda items for consideration of the General Meeting. 1.4 Annual General Meeting : the AGM of the centre was held on Saturday, 26 th Oct. 2013 at 1900 hrs. The AGM received and accepted Annual Report and Audited Accounts for the year 2012-13. AGM also appointed auditor for the year 2013-14. 1. To confirm the minutes of the 55 th AGM held on 31 st Oct. 2012. The minutes of 55th AGM, as circulated, were deliberated and confirmed unanimously. The resolution to confirm the minutes was proposed by Er. D.B. Dhone and seconded by Er. R S Ekbote. 2. To announce the composition of the committee for the ensuing year 2013-2014. Er D J Doke, Chairman announced the composition of Pune Local Centre committee for the year 2013-2014. 3. To receive the Annual Report of the Pune Local Centre for year 2012-2013. The report as circulated was received unanimously after discussion. The resolution to receive & accept the report was proposed by Dr. V P Gosavi and seconded by Prof K K Ghosh. 4. To receive the Audited Accounts for the year ending 31 st March 2013. The Annual Audited Accounts for the year 2012-2013 as circulated were received unanimously. The resolution to receive & accept the audited accounts was proposed by Er. Vasant Pandarkar and seconded by Prof K K Ghosh. 5. To appoint the Auditors for the year 2013-2014 and to fix their remuneration. Dr. D J Doke, FIE informed that, M/s. Kotwal & Co. offered themselves for reappointment as an Auditor for the year 2013 – 2014 on remuneration of Rs.15000 /- + Service Tax. Er. Girish Mundada raised a query regarding formation of panel of Auditors for deciding name of Auditors. Prof. K K Ghosh suggested that, from the next year i.e. 2014-2015, panel of Auditors shall be formed if there is provision in the Bye Laws of IEI for deciding the Auditors. Resolved that, M/s. Kotwal & Co. be appointed as Auditor for the year 2013-2014 On remuneration of Rs. 15000/- + Service Tax. The resolution to appoint Auditor was proposed by Er. Girish Mundada and seconded by Er. Secretary Sd/Dr. D J Doke Chairman. 2.0 Normally the activities are reported for the financial year ending 31st March. However, the AGM is held in the month of October. Hence it is proposed to report activities for the year from 1 st October to 30th September. Only for this year one & half year is covered giving breakup up to 31 st March 2014 & beyond. 2.1 2.1.1 Developmental Activities : Infrastructure : The efforts of the PLC Committee have been fruitful in getting the Govt. orders and Collector order, extending the lease of Centre’s land by 30 years (from 2012 to 2042). The work of signing undertaking and the actual lease deed was completed in August, 2014. The Committee puts on record the efforts taken by Hon. Secretary, Er. V. S. Ghogare in pursuing the matter at Secretariat, Collectorate, and Tahashil level and achieving the results. 2.1.2 Equipment : a) D G Set & Furniture : Grant of Rupees 10 Lak was approved by IEI in Jan. 2014 for the purchase of 25 kVA D G Set & Furniture for Examination and office use. The purchase of furniture was completed partly before 31 st March. & partly in June. Purchase of D G Set was completed in June 2014. In August & September work of Shed for the D G Set is completed. Shifting of Meter & Inverter is in process. 250 folding, flexible, multipurpose Stainless Steel Tables have been purchased in June 2014. 80 Cushioned Chairs were purchased before 31 st March & 100 Molded Chairs in June 2014. b) Laptop & LCD Mounting : A Laptop for Firodiya Auditorium is purchased in Sept. 2014. The LCD Projector is Mounted on the Ceiling. This along with earlier purchases of Wire Less Mikes, Remote Controlled LCD, has made presentation in Firodiya Hall easy and effective. With Reliance dongal internet is also available in the hall. c) Pune Dated 2 Nov.2013 Activities : Scanner, Computer & Phones : The old Scanner purchased before two years was not working and hence has been replaced by new Scanner for conducting 3 IEI-PLC NEWS Elections in Aug. / Sept. Old Scanner has been sent for repairs. All in One Printer has been purchased in September 2014. The intranet of office has been repaired and all computers installed with virus protection. d) The maintenance work of broken window glasses, electrical installations, fans, water pumping system was undertaken from time to time and modified to have more reliable service. 2.1.3 Reliance prepaid internet Dongal has been added to make internet access available on Laptop in Firodiya Hall, Kale Hall or in office when broadband is not working. Library : This year books and periodicals worth Rs. 1.14 lakh have been added to library. Now library has 10591 books and 8 periodicals. 2.2 The intercom system is repaired and supplemented with additional instruments during last year. One can now access Chairman, Secretary, Library, Pantry or Office by intercom. Technical Activities : The table below lists the technical activities carried out during April 2013 to March 2014. The invitations, programmes and notices are uploaded on the website with flashing indications for the information of the Members and Public. 3.2 E-mail Id : The Centre has following E-mail Ids. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] These E-mails are convenient to separate communication automatically, especially for conference papers, technical meets and journal. The head quarter has created E-mail id [email protected] on its server for communication between Centre and HQ. 3.3 Group Ids : To communicate faster amongst members of divisions, it is proposed to create group E-mail Ids division wise & committee wise. All the members are requested to register their E-mail Id and Mobile No with Head Quarter. Next Election is going to be fully online. 3.4 News Letter : Centre publishes News Letter every month and posts it to members and centres of IEI. From Sept News Letter is printed in four color. 4.0 Technician/ Students Chapter : The Centre has one Technician Chapter and 25 Students Chapters, including 2 new chapters opened during report period. 5.0 Guidance Courses : The Centre conducted A & B Section guidance courses during the period of report. Centre also conducted GATE & MPSC guidance courses. IEI-PLC NEWS 6 ICC ICC ICC ICC ICC CV ICC EL ICC CV PR EL ICC CP The earnings in financial year ending March 2014 from the courses is Rs.4.96 Lakh. 6.0 AMIE Examination : The Centre conducted AMIE Examinations of Section A & B in Summer 2013 & Winter 2013 with 3325 candidates in Summer & 3075 candidates in Winter. The summer examination was conducted in the Centre and Modern College & Winter Examination in the Centre, in PVG College and in Bharati Vidyapeeth. Summer 2014 Examination was conducted in June 2014 in the Centre, in PVG College & in Bharati Vidyapeeth. There were 3051 candidates for this Examination. 7.0 Financial : The Balance Sheet, Income Expenditure Statement and Audit Report for the year ending 31st March 2014 is enclosed. It was approved by finance sub committee and PLC committee meetings held in June 2014.the report has been sent to HQ on 23 rd June 2014. The salient features of the report are: a) There are no adverse remarks in the Audit Report. b) The Centre has generated a surplus of Rs.15.38. lakh. c) This year the major income other than Grant is from interest, guidance courses and rental of hall. d) The investment has increased from Rs. 1.95 crore. to Rs.2.10 crore. 8.0 Acknowledgement : The Committee of the Centre sincerely thank the Engineering professionals, organizations, Institutions for their excellent support & co-operation. It offers four year full time degree courses in ‘Bachelor of Engineering’ with specializations in Civil (120), Computer (120), Electrical (60), Electronics and Telecommunications (60), Mechanical Engineering (180) and four Post Graduate courses in Structural Engineering (24), Computer Engineering (24), Computer Networks (24) and Design Engineering (24). The college is approved by AICTE & DTE, Govt. of Maharashtra and is affiliated to University of Pune. Soulful Aura” at KJCOEMR auditorium on 15th September 2014. The Student Chapter of IEI of Electrical Engineering branch at K J College of Engineering Pune was opened on 15 th Sep 2014 on the occasion of Engineers Day. Immediate Past Hon. Secretary of Pune Local Centre of IEI Er. D. G. Patil inaugurated the Student Chapter. Past Hon. Secretary of PLC Er. D. B. Dhone and Jt. Hon Secretary of PLC Er. V. N. Shinde were also present at the Function. Er. Shri. Dilip G. Patil addressed the students giving them a clear view about the IEI and declared the opening of the chapter. Hon. Shri. Kalyan Jadhav shared his entrepreneurial thoughts with students with focus on scope of electrical engineering in an industrial sector in his talk. Dr. Sudhir Bhongle, Trustee of the College, delivered a phenomenal speech on “Excellence in Engineering”. At the end Shri. D. B. Dhone effectively explained the benefits of IEI membership to students as well as faculty members. Dr. Ashok Ghatol, Dr. Sanjeev Wagh and Prof. N. M. Lokhande quoted the significance of being associated with the Institution of Engineers, a National and International organization and appreciated the initiative taken by the Electrical Department. Prof. Amit L. Nehete has been looking after the chapter as a Faculty Advisor and Kuldeep Pawar and Junaid Shaikh as Student Convenors. In order to step forward towards attaining the vision, college encourage students for co-curricular as well as extracurricular activities. To fuel student’s impulse of knowledge and develop Socio-Technical Qualities the Department of Electrical Engineering has come up with the initiative to form the Students Chapter of The Institution of Engineers (India) as an extension of family. Taking up the opportunity of Engineers day the IEI Students Chapter was inaugurated in the Department of Electrical Engineering along with publication of first ever departmental magazine “Corona- The Er.
