Course Syllabus
Department: World Languages
Course: German IV
Level: High Honors
Credits: 5
Course Description: This course continues the study of the language and civilization of German-‐
speaking countries through an intense study of basic grammar, vocabulary, and conversational patterns. Innovative methods such as TPR (total physical response) are utilized when using songs and music to introduce new vocabulary or grammar. Fiction reading is represented in this course through the series Leichte Lektüren by Langenscheidt: Elvis in Köln, Tatort Frankfurt, Das Gold der Alten Dame.
Class and home reading in this course is designed to incorporate grammar and vocabulary of
the textbook into real life situations.
The course utilizes folk and modern German music as an aid in pronunciation and vocabulary
building. One of the songs is chosen to be presented at the traditional World Language Night in
March.
