A Movement of the Spirit!
Inside...
By Reverend Ken Sauer
"As the Father sent me, so I am sending
you.' Then he breathed on them
and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'"
~ John 20:21b-22
For several weeks this summer we
focused on spiritual gifts and asked the
question: "What should I do with
the life God gave me?" I have been

Hug your pastor this month!
Pastors represent many things
to a congregation — leader,
visionary, spiritual guide,
shepherd, administrator,
preacher, and teacher. Because of the significant role
that pastors play in the life of
the church, October is set
aside as Clergy Appreciation
Month.
Let’s each take time to thank
Pastor Ken Sauer for serving
East Ridge UMC with such
wonderful dedication, sacrifice, and service.

By Glenda Stewart, ERUMW Secretary
Annual UMW Picnic
The United Methodist Women will have their annual picnic on Monday, Oct. 6, at 5:30 p.m. at the
Chattanooga River Park off Amnicola Highway.
All women are welcome.
Undie Sunday - Sponsored by
United Methodist Women
United Methodist Women will be collecting new
underwear for boys, girls and babies through
teenage years. If buying diapers, they need size 3
and 4. We are asking our congregation to bring
new underwear, any size as long as it is in the
original packaging. We will collect and give to
Marcy Hall for East Ridge Cares. We will be collecting through Saturday, October 19. There is a
box in the Narthex for this collection.
UMW Sunday
United Methodist Women’ Sunday will be held
October 19, 10:45 a.m. Be sure to write this on
your calendars so you will not miss this special
worship service!
Much thanks and appreciation to
the United Methodist Women,
our painters: Don Fullam
and Claudell Cearley,
and to Justin Bonner
who donated paint
for the Pre-Schooler Class.
The room is a beautiful sky blue!
The Young At Heart ride again!
On Thursday, October 16, the Young At Heart will leave from the
church at 9:30 a.m. and travel to Fort Bluff Camp on Dayton
Mountain for lunch and enjoyment of the beautiful surroundings.
Lunch will be followed by a trip to Wooten’s
Apple Barn to buy apples, tomatoes and baked
goods.
Please contact Glenda Perry or Alice Marie Billingsley
for more information.

Youth Group News:
Housing the Homeless
East Ridge UMC is housing the homeless this
week, October 5-11, for Family Promise of
Chattanooga.
Family Promise is a nonprofit organization
committed to helping low-income families
achieve lasting independence, and working to
create a community where every family has a
home, sustainable income, and the chance to
build a better future.
Starts Meeting Again Sunday,
October 12, 12 p.m.
Page 4
One aspect of this is providing shelter for families who have not yet attained that goal. Area
churches that have suitable accommodations are
asked to house a family for a week.
For Ages 6th grade
through 12th grade
East Ridge UMC volunteers are greatly needed
to serve as either evening hosts or overnight
hosts this week while the homeless stay in our
Family Life Building.
Spread the News
and Bring Friends!!!
There is a food sign up list, and an evening host/
overnight host sign-up sheet on the bulletin
board in the hall. Please plan to help!!!

of this.
Lynn Foster is our new Evangelism Chair. The Evangelism Team
will consist of: Jim and Barbara Jackson, Mike and Teresa
Jennings, Brandon Emery and Robert Foster.
We still have a number of areas in the church where much help
is needed. For example, we need more folks to help clean the church,
teach Sunday school, help with KidzJam, drive the van, tutor at East Ridge
Cares 4 Kids, help the nurture team visit shut-ins, help and lead Family
Promise, and the list goes on and on.
If you feel God calling you to serve your church in these or other areas,
please speak to either Al Foster or me.
On behalf of every person in this congregation and the surrounding community, I thank those who have answered God's call. We will be praying for
you as you begin this most exciting of journeys!!!
God has brought you to East Ridge United Methodist Church for a reason-a good reason!!! We all need to fulfill God's call on our lives, God's reason
for bringing us here. We all have gifts which must be utilized in order for
the church to be all that God wants it to be.
I look forward to serving with you this
coming month.
Your Servant
in Christ,
~ Pastor Ken
