Some may think we have special series of lessons merely because we have had them for years? Mere tradition. Some likely feel they are outdated, of little or no value and should no longer exist. Are there other ways of reaching the lost? Certainly! But never discount or discard the power of Gospel Meetings in the 21st century! Consider with me for a few moments the WHY of GOSPEL MEETINGS. Every single individual desperately needs to hear the saving Gospel of Christ. Our Lord charged us with making certain that ALL hear the truth in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18l Mark 16:15). We Are Privileged To Spread The Powerful, Simple, Saving Truth. Tragically today there is much confusion in the religious world. Series of Gospel messages afford us the opportunity to call all men to CHRIST, pleading for a return to New Testament Christianity. We Are Encouraged, Edified, Strengthened In The Faith. Faithful followers of Christ delight to hear again and again the thrilling truths of our Saviour. It is reassuring to KNOW we are walking daily toward heaven. We Fulfill Our God-Given Responsibility of preaching the gospel, teaching the truth every way possible, inviting our friends, showing others that our top priority is serving our Lord and Master. ~ Paul Sain • [email protected] Dan Winkler – October 12-15 Community Food Giveaway December 6 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ELDERS: Joe Christopher Joe Cooper Johnny Jackson DEACONS: Steve Alsup Chris Cooper Rickie Britton Charles Gulley Willard Carr Nathan Hale Robert Clark Richard Kelley Bobby Coggin Joel Orton Mark Woodard PREACHER: Jonathan Burns Paul Sain •••••••••••••••••••••••• Volume 34, No. 42 October 12, 2014 News, Notes & Nouncements WELCOME – As we assemble on the Lord’s day for worship, we are honored to have others meet with us. Every year in the United States of America, abortionists murder more than one million children. Every year, an estimated forty-six million abortions occur worldwide (Alan Guttmacher Institute, 2002). You may feel just like those children…HELPLESS! However we have the opportunity to stand up and speak for those who do not have a voice. We have the opportunity to help those who have no choice in what is done to them. We have the opportunity to help those who cannot stand. We have the opportunity to help a CHILD! With this in mind there are some things we need to know about abortion in Tennessee. 1. As of right now, Tennessee does not require abortion clinics to make women and girls aware of the facts. 2. As of right now, Tennessee does not require a 24-hour waiting period on abortions. 3. As of right now, Tennessee does not require abortion facilities to be licensed and inspected. 4. As of right now, Tennessee does not require hospitalization for riskier late-term abortions. 5. As of right now, Tennessee can use taxpayers money in funding abortions. Voting “YES” on Amendment 1 will allow enforcement of the same common sense restrictions that are enforced on the eight states around us. This amendment cannot stop abortions as a whole but all roads must be prepared before they are paved. We will be spending time over the next few weeks in this column Biblically proving that abortion is murder and Christians have the responsibility to stand up and fight for the unborn. Remember no decsion is a decsion. ~ [email protected] Vol. 34, No. 42 – October 12, 2014 From The Heart With Love Are We Unloving To Expose Error? We could answer the above question with our “opinion” or “thoughts of the majority” – but let us instead choose to go to the Scriptures. Was MATTHEW unloving as He exposed error? In Matthew’s account of the gospel, he quoted Jesus regarding the “ravening wolves in sheep’s clothing” teaching doctrines of men (Matt. 7:15). Was MARK unloving as He exposed error? In Mark’s account of the gospel, he spoke of false ones who would seduce even the elect (Mark 13:21-22). Was PETER unloving as He exposed error? Simon Peter (by the inspiration of God) condemned those who beguiled unstable souls, teaching damnable heresies through deceit (2 Peter 2:1-3,13-14). Was JOHN unloving as He exposed error? John, the apostle of love, condemned false prophets (deceivers) who had gone out in the world and that we must not bid them God speed, or else become partakers of their evil deeds (1 John 4:1; 2 John 7; 2 John 9-11). Was PAUL unloving as He exposed error? The apostle Paul strongly condemned the evil workers, corrupt minds, ones who appeared as angels of light, who advocated doctrines of devils (Phil. 3:2; 1 Tim. 4:1; 6:5; 2 Cor. 11:13f ) whose mouths must be stopped (Titus 1:9-11). He condemned those who perverted the gospel of Christ (Gal. 1:6-9), beguiled others with enticing words (Col 2:4,8,18) and spoke lies in hypocrisy (1 Tim. 4:2). Was JESUS unloving as He exposed error? Who would dare say that our Lord was unloving when he condemned false teachers, calling them ravening wolves in sheep’s clothing, as they would teach the doctrines and commandments of men (Matt. 7:15)? Was He unloving when He warned Christians not to let others deceive them (Matt. 24:4-5,24)? Would we be so foolish as to charge our Saviour with being unloving as the entire Word of God is inspired – which means all the eight writers (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, Paul, James and Jude) wrote and warned – calling names – boldly exposing error – as they relentlessly stood for the truth? Thus – as we endeavor to be faithful servants of Christ, we MUST likewise stand for what is right – opposed to what is false – in a LOVING MANNER! ~ [email protected] Page 4
