Stage Reading Of Oscar Wilde’s Comedy,
The Importance Of Being Earnest
the beautiful daughter
of the formidable Lady
Bracknell. Across town,
Algernon decides to take
the name Ernest when
visiting Jack’s young
ward, the lovely Cecily.
When each gentleman is
forced to unwind his web
of lies and reveal himself,
being earnest takes on a
new meaning.
Oscar Wilde’s theatrical masterpiece is widelyacknowledged as one of
the greatest comedies in
the English language.
In addition to the reading, students will participate in a free acting
workshop taught by Jason Lambert. Lambert is
a professional actor, theatre educator, and English
teacher at ConVal High
School.
Tickets are $7 for
adults, $5 for seniors and
students, and are available at the door one-half
hour prior to curtain. Proceeds will benefit Project
Shakespeare’s education
programs and scholarships.

Struggle Film Screening And
Discussion At Keene Library
The Keene Public Library will host a screening and
film discussion of the documentary The Abolitionists
on Thursday, October 16th at 6:30 p.m. in the Keene
Public Library Auditorium at 60 Winter Street. Graham Warder, assistant professor in history at Keene
State College will select film segments and moderate
the discussion. Prior to the screening and discussion,
community members are invited join together for a
meal at 6 p.m. in the Kay Fox Meeting Room.
The Abolitionists brings to life the struggles of the
men and women who led the battle to end slavery.
Through innovative use of reenactments, the threeepisode film series puts a face on the anti-slavery
movement – or rather, five faces of the movement:
New England newspaper editor William Lloyd Garrison; former slave, author, and activist Frederick
Douglass; Angelina Grimké, daughter of a rich South
Carolina slaveholder; Harriet Beecher Stowe, author
of the influential Uncle Tom’s Cabin; and John Brown,
ultimately executed for his armed seizure of the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry.
