New Frontiers in Pediatric Psychology: From Innovation to Application April 16-18, 2015 Proposal Submission Information • • • • • • • • Submission deadline is November 3, 2014 at 11:59pm EST Submissions may be considered as a poster, paper, symposium, or workshop. All will be blinded for peer-review. Please do not include any author names/institution in the body of the abstract. Preference will be given to submissions that reflect the conference theme. Please copy/paste your abstract onto the submission portal. Reviewers may determine that individual abstracts of high quality posters be combined into a paper session. Poster sessions will occur each day of the conference. Workshops will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015. Submission for Posters: • Abstracts will be limited to 300 words and must include an overall summary and relevance to the conference in addition to the objectives (rationale and aims), methods (sample, procedures, measures, and/or analysis), results (primary findings), and conclusions (implications). Submission for Papers: • • • • Will be considered for 15-20 minute sessions. Abstracts will be limited to 300 words and must include an overall summary and relevance to the conference in addition to the objectives (rationale and aims), methods (sample, procedures, measures, and/or analysis), results (primary findings), and conclusions (implications). Will have an option to be considered as poster submissions if not accepted as a paper. Will need to provide 1 learning objective. Submission for Symposia: • • • • • Will be considered for either 50 minute or 1 hour 50 minute sessions. The total symposium submission should be limited to 1500 words. Submissions must include an overall summary, the overall theme, structure (number of talks, time) and relevance of the symposium to the conference in addition to the objectives (rationale and aims), methods (sample, procedures, measures, and/or analysis), results (primary findings), and conclusions (implications) of each individual talk. Authors of symposia should upload a PDF of their proposal. Please note that typing directly into the CMT portal only allows for 5000 characters. Do not include identifying information (author names/institutions) in the attachment. Will ideally include a range of 3-4 speakers and a discussant who reflect unique perspectives from different institutions. Will have an option to be considered as individual paper or poster submissions if the symposium is not accepted. • Will need to provide 3-5 learning objectives. • Additional Instructions for SIG Symposia: o SPPAC 2015 will have one dedicated “SIG Symposium” as part of the conference programming. o SIGs are encouraged to collaborate among members and between SIGs to submit proposals. Please note if the submission represents collaborative efforts of members of a SIG or across SIGs. o If not selected as the SIG Symposium, the submission will be considered among the General Symposia submissions. Submission for Workshops: • • • • • • Submissions reflecting the conference theme, ethics, research methodology, professional development, and skill building in academic or clinical domains are also encouraged. The target audience should be pediatric psychologists, but may also include other disciplines (e.g., other psychology disciplines, medicine, nursing, social work). Leaders of workshops should have established expertise in the topic area they propose to teach. Key selection criteria include: 1) clear educational objectives of relevance to pediatric psychologists and related professionals, 2) likelihood of proposed workshop methods to achieve educational objectives, and 3) use of effective and active teaching strategies. Will be considered for 1 hour and 50 minutes or 2 hours and 50 minutes sessions. Workshop abstracts will be limited to 400 words and must include: a summary of the workshop (purpose and structure of workshop), teaching strategies, relevant expertise of presenter(s), target audience (please include relevance of workshop to individuals from disciplines other than pediatric psychology, if applicable), maximum number of workshop attendees and rationale for this limit. Will need to provide 3-5 learning objectives. Instructions: • • Go to the 2015 SPPAC Submissions Portal to create a log-in account by clicking on the New User Link at: https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/SPPAC2015/Default.aspx o Agree to the Author’s End User License Agreement by clicking “Yes”, enter the verification code, enter your contact information, and click “Finish”. Once in the author console, click on “Create a new Paper Submission”. You will be asked to: o Type the Title of your presentation o Type or copy/paste Abstract (or abstracts if submitting a symposium). The Abstract: • Must include the following headings: objective (rationale and aims), methods (sample, procedures, measures, and/or analysis), results (primary findings), and conclusions (implications). • Should NOT include the author names in the text. • Must not exceed 1000 words (5000 characters) per symposium. • Must not exceed 400 words (2000 characters) for a workshop. Note: The learning objectives will be entered separately and are not part of the abstract. Enter keywords associated with subject matter of submission. Specify if abstract represents the work of a SIG(s). o Enter the Email addresses of all authors in your submission or participating on a symposium. If your submission is not related to any of these categories, please choose “None of the above.” Indicate your submission type from the list provided. Indicate whether you’d like your symposium to be considered for individual paper or poster presentations if not accepted. Submit learning objectives. If you are submitting anything other than a poster, you MUST complete the learning objectives that the participants will achieve from your proposed session. For abstracts being submitted for consideration as Poster Only, please type “NA” in the learning objective area. • 3-5 required for Workshops and Symposia submissions • 1 required for Paper Only and Paper or Poster submissions Learning objectives, or learning outcomes, are statements that clearly describe what the learner will know or be able to do as a result of having attended an educational program or activity. They must be observable and measurable. Please use action verbs when writing your learning objectives, such as: list, describe, recite, write, compute, discuss, explain, predict, apply, demonstrate, prepare, use, analyze, design, select, utilize, compile, create, plan, revise, assess, compare, rate, critique. The following verbs should be avoided when writing your learning objectives: know, understand, learn, appreciate, become aware of, become familiar with.
