FOUNDERS FORUM
MESSAGE FROM GRACE
Fall is here, and thanks to your ongoing support, a full complement of classes is underway. This is a great time
to acknowledge and thank our wonderful instructors who work so hard to enrich your lives. This fall, there are also
several important seminars and some fun social events, including our annual autumn party. In conjunction with the
town’s “Big Read” of The Great Gatsby, our “Swanky Speakeasy Soiree” will celebrate the Jazz Age. We hope you’ll
join the fun.
Now I have a few things to ask of you:
•
Donations: Our fall campaign is underway, and by now you should have received our appeal either in class or
by mail. Please respond as generously as you can. Your support drives our programming, and every donation
makes a difference. Thank you for caring enough to support Founders Hall.
•
Newsletter: As you can see, the daily calender runs on five pages of this newsletter. So, we’re taking an informal
poll: Do you use this daily calendar? Do you know that you can find a daily listing on our website, in the NewsTimes and at our front desk? Please let the front desk know if you rely on this monthly, printed calendar listing.
•
Parking: As you know, parking can be tight. Please park only in designated spots so fire lanes remain open. And,
please carpool if you can. That’s the best way to ease parking and tension!
SEMINARS
Distinguished Speaker
Gerald Steichen
Music Director, RSO
Thurs., Oct. 2
1 pm
The Maestro of the Ridgefield
Symphony Orchestra will give
an informative and entertaining
pre-concert talk about the featured
music of Grieg, Cionek, Sibelius
and Mozart.
Choices:
Medicare Enrollment
Fri., Oct. 17
1pm
Choices is a community
outreach program that can
help you evaluate your medical
insurance options with the help of
trained, unbiased volunteers. John
Rosa, a Choices volunteer, will
explain how Choices volunteers
can help you with Medicare
enrollment. At this seminar, you
can sign up
for individual
sessions.
Come learn
why it’s
great to have
Choices!
Bewildered by the Ballot?
Presented by Ridgefield League of
Women Voters
Thurs., Oct. 23
3 pm
The November ballot will be
chock full of questions. Seven
questions concerning changes to
the Town Charter will be explained
by Charter Revision Commission
members, First Selectmen Rudy
Marconi and Town Counsel. In
addition, a RLWV representative
will demystify the proposed
constitutional amendment on
voting restrictions. Q & A will
follow. Come and
be an informed
voter before you
go to the polls.
Founders Hall is a donor-supported education and recreation center open, without charge, to individuals 60 years of age or older in the Ridgefield
area. Founders Hall was built in 2002 by Founders Hall Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit partnership of the Couri and Goldstone families. The
foundation operates Founders Hall with financial support from the families as well as from its members, civic-minded corporations, foundations
and individuals.

Garden Corner
Fall is a busy time for our volunteers at Founders Hall. Thank you
to our great member volunteers who help sort our annual campaign
mailing, call Friday Bingo games, and serve as ambassadors at our New
Member Coffees.
Want to join a quick, fun, fall
activity? Then come to the bulb
planting on Wednesday, Oct. 8,
1 – 3 pm (rain date: Oct. 15).
Thank you to Evelyn Godbout, Phyllis Setterstrom and Edie
Stafford for helping enlist and organize our volunteers. If you wish to
volunteer for our upcoming wreath festival, please see Lisa for details.
Our wonderful FH gardeners
are planting 150 daffodil bulbs in
the gardens and they need your
help. They’ll supply the bulbs, two
planting augers and refreshments.
You bring helping hands and a
trowel. Many hands will make it
easy, and come spring, the gardens
will be gorgeous.
The Fashion Tea was a
fun and informative social
that will have us all cleaning
out our summer closets
and jump-starting our fall
wardrobes! A special thank
you to Closet Curator Susan
Singer, Beverly Osgood,
Ann Schmitter and Jayme
Wilkinson for opening up
their closets and sharing
some beautiful fall fashions.
