MESSAGE FROM GRACE
In this season of Thanksgiving, I want to thank you for responding so quickly and generously to our annual
appeal. As you’ll read below, member support of Founders Hall is on the rise, which is why we can offer you all
these classes, seminars and social events in November and throughout the holiday season. As you read about our
holiday events, please note the sign-up dates, which will help us with our planning.
As the holidays approach, I have a request. Please refrain from organizing group gifts for your instructors. As
much as we appreciate your good intentions, group gifts can put unwelcome pressure on those who are unable to
participate. Thank you for understanding.
Kick off your holiday season by bringing friends and family to jingle and mingle at our Wreath Festival.
Throughout this four-day extravaganza, over 100 wreaths will deck our Hall, and the library/living room will be
transformed into a fabulous gift boutique. The festival happens just once every two years, so don’t miss this fun way
to support Founders Hall. Read more on page 8.
As we celebrate our 12th anniversary, I’m grateful for the wonderful members, the amazing staff and the terrific
foresight of the Couris and Goldstones who together have made Founders Hall such a treasure. Best wishes to all of
you for a bountiful season and Happy Thanksgiving.
SEMINARS
DEVELOPMENT
Thank you!
Response to our September
appeal has been terrific, bringing
in over $30,000 since Sept. 1.
Equally important, the percentage
of active members supporting
Founders Hall has increased to
60% as of Oct. 15.
As you know, Founders Hall
relies on the people who use it
and love it to support it. If you
are among the 60%, thank you. If
you have not yet made a donation,
it’s not too late!
Send in a donation by
December 31 so we can list you
among our cherished donors.
Legacy of Rome
Journey to Health
Thursday, Nov. 6
Friday, Nov. 7
1 pm
1 pm
If you’re interested in the
history of ancient Rome, come
hear author William McEachern.
His debut novel, Casting Lots,
is a historically and biblicallybased epic adventure that spans
ancient Rome and Greece. He
will narrate what you would see
and hear as you walked the streets
of ancient Rome, explain the
Latin roots of our
English language,
describe how
our government
is derived from
Roman models, and
recount other ways
that Rome enriches
our lives today.
As part of National
Diabetes Awareness Month,
Susan Laub, physical therapist
at Laurel Ridge Health Care
Center, will talk about making
healthy choices and behaviors
on your “journey to health.”
She will give you valuable
information about making
smart food choices, being active,
signs and symptoms of diabetes
and heart disease, and how to
avoid or
reduce your
risk of being
diagnosed
with these
diseases.
Founders Hall is a donor-supported education and recreation center open, without charge, to individuals 60 years of age or older in the Ridgefield
area. Founders Hall was built in 2002 by Founders Hall Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit partnership of the Couri and Goldstone families. The
foundation operates Founders Hall with financial support from the families as well as from its members, civic-minded corporations, foundations
and individuals.
